[Nintendo 3DS] THREAD IS DEAD! POST IN THE NEW ONE!
Posts
I don't know about that. Yoshi's Island was damn near perfect and it still holds up today. New Island feels like they copied the outer shell of the original with like, paper mache or something but forgot to add that personality that the first game had. I'm not saying it's garbage or a terrible game, but as huge fan of Yoshi's Island, I feel a little disappointed in the new game.
I actually do like the art style, though. The pastel look in the backgrounds is very beautiful.
Another annoyance for me is that the butt stomp move is very touchy on the circle pad. I've had a few instances where I've died by suddenly butt stomping while trying to jump over a gap.
Similar situation here. I surprised my girlfriend with the game on Friday as she was showing interest in it, and she seems to be really digging it thus far.
And that's saying something because her 3DS consumption prior to that was made up of exclusively Animal Crossing and Style Savvy, even though she's had the 3DS since October of 2012.

I argue that, as a multimedia entity, the music is just as important to the final product as anything else; what would Final Fantasy be without it's score? Super Mario Bros? I mean, think of your favorite games of all time; how many of them can you hum along with in your head?
Having bad music can kill my enjoyment of a game.
I mean, compare these two:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWuXoxQDa2I
The former is a thing. It's quick, simple, and effective. You know the level's about to start. It's got a good, fast-paced rhythm, that's short but driving. Bass up ins. Get Ready.
The second? Broken rhythm that fails to set the tone. Inconclusive mood. High-pitched blocks. Stop and Start, rather than Go. It sounds like "Oh, the first game had drums when the level opened, we have to do that, but different!"
Let's do one more before I go do real work. Here's the first level (not counting the tutorial zone) in SNES Yoshi's Island:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=312PmRYFrJ4
Listen to the drums; simple, rock-inspired rhythm. Bouncy tune. Not fast, not slow. Uplifting. You're on an adventure! What a great 1-1 theme!
Now, the first level in New Island:

Slow, rhythmic piano with some lazy snapping. Chimes? Whistling? Any slower, and it'd be a lullabye. It's nap time, Yoshi. Go to sleep. Put the game down and grab your blankey.
And how often can you have music that's so enjoyable that old ladies will play it?

But I don't think there are really any out on 3DS... There's only been one Yugioh game on 3DS so far and that was just releases in December in Japan.

Yeah, the latest and only 3DS one (Gekitotsu Duel Carnival) has only been released in Japan and I doubt it's gonna get a western release.
You could play the last DS game (World Championship 2011) I guess.

I liked it way better than Duck Tales, TBH.
Correction, a iOS MMORPG. With no Disney characters at all. Not even Chip & Dale.

Instead, on this page we have a mockup of a game that doesn't exist and a mobile game, neither of which are for 3DS.

The Cardfighters Clash game for DS is fun, if really badly translated and buggy.
I wish the 3DS had Neo Geo Pocket Color VC games...
@skeldare
The music is grating, not even relatively pleasant to listen to once let alone after the umpteenth the loop. I find the graphics atrocious, although some people think they're appealing so YMMV. I also find the levels extremely uninspired, especially after playing Tropical Freeze. I think it's worth noting that I'm not a fan of the Yoshi series.
Cool, was just curious.

Yeah. I almost picked it up myself, I'm glad I got to give it a go before hand.
Sorry I do have it but I played the Neo Geo one far more and lumped it in the same memory it seems
I've preordered that in Amazon for my mom. I expect her to be rather surprised, being that I'm four thousand km away and all. But the Steam thread has taught me that distance is not an impediment to ninja gifting!
It is really, really badly translated. The dialogue is hilarious, and lots of cards make no sense. There's also a game breaking bug! It crashes whenever you talk to an NPC you need to speak with to move the plot forward. They actually had to issue new carts to fix it, but only if you sent your original one in. The originals had a color sticker on the cart, and the fixed versions are in black and white. It's fairly hard to find a fixed version! I was very excited when I finally hunted one down.
The NGPC original is amazing, of course. There's only one or two cards with bad translations, although the one I know of is impossible to decipher.

Sounds like you're doing really well, actually.
I see what you did there

I'm glad someone had my back on that setup...
You're a leet dood, @Reynolds.
No Gizmoduck? How the hell did they screw that up?
Also, C&DRR coming back might invite the horror: A live action CGI Rescue Rangers movie. It's better that some things be left buried. (Besides, there's too much Gadget Rule 34 out there as it is.)
Yo, is the Pokemon X and Y promotion still on? The Lego Movie game was one of the ones that qualified you for a copy of Pokemon if you registered it and a new 3DS.

The Lego game that's part of the Pokemon promotion isn't the "The Lego Movie" game, but Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins.

Honestly? No. It's a very dated game that wasn't even that good when it came out.

I bought Sprung and enjoyed it, although it's definitely not a good game. It's very weird that it exists, which was a good enough reason for me to grab it.
