Want to sell a 3DS but keep the downloaded games

WinkyWinky rRegistered User regular
My money's tight right now so I'm considering selling my 3DS, but I bought a number of downloadable games for it. If I ever got another 3DS in the future it would suck to have to buy them again. Is there a way to ensure that I won't have to rebuy my games, or am I just shit out of luck?

You have to have both the old 3DS and new 3DS to make a transfer, so if you sell it before getting a replacement you're out of luck.

What is this I don't even.

Couldnt he keep his SD card when he sells it without it (or with a new empty one).

No, the games on the SD card still has to be associated with a certain user.

Yeah but cant you do like the first part of the 'transfer from' on the old DS, then wait to do the the 'transfer to' later? or do they both need to be online at the same time.

You cannot. The transfer is one-way and requires both devices to be online and in your possession at the same time.

One option (if it's an issue of money in the short term) is to pawn the item with intent to buy it back. Some pawn shops will 'buy' the item from you and hold onto it, then sell it back to at a premium. This way you can get the cash for it, but also get it back later. I did this with a 360 once and got it back for ~$60(plus what I was lent) a month later. Of course not all pawn shops do this so be clear.
