[Tabletop Based Video Games] What good ones are out there?

kog2814kog2814 Registered User regular
Hey Fellow PA Fans,
I am looking for a new game and figured this would be a good place to ask and get some information. I am looking for a good video game based off of a tabletop game/concept. I love tabletop games that feature maps and minis but unfortunately have trouble finding fellow players to "roll" with. I'm looking for something very true to its tabletop companion if possible. The upcoming War Machine online game looks incredible, but was wondering if anything is currently out that people are playing. Thanks for the help all!

    Welcome.

What are you looking for? RPG? Strategy?

Tablets and mobile have lots of boardgame classics like Ticket to Ride, Puerto Rico, etc. available.

The 3DS has a modest variety if you add the DS library. Advance Wars and Fire Emblem are good examples. Ghost Recon for the 3DS is on sale too.

Forgive me if I'm wrong and an asshole here but isn't this just a plant post? New user, no pic, random name, asks for a very specific type game then names an upcoming one... employee of the studio drumming up conversation.

@Archsorcerer‌ - Strategy is probably more what I am looking for, not that I wouldn't be interested in a good RPG style if its out there. I did play though Fire Emblem and loved it! I will have to check out Advance Wars if they are similar. I have checked out a few of the tablet options out there like ticket to ride but am looking for something with a bit more depth and a combat element. Thanks for the suggestions though!

@Magic Pink‌- Sorry, I am a new user and haven't gone through creating my profile and everything. As for the name, its my initials and the green lantern designation for the earth sector (I am a big GL fan)

Yet for some reason you're posting about it publicly instead of using the report button.

I keep getting an error when I try to use it. It says I'm not allowed to. Plus this didn't really seem to be serious enough to report, that's why I asked.

I was going to recommend Crimson Shroud too!

It's not terribly true to the board game but I really liked Risk Factions.

Talisman has a digital version now and Dungeon of the Endless sure FEELS like a boardgame and a good one at that.

Hmmm, I have never played the tabletop version of talisman but the digital version looks very interesting. Thanks Magic!

It's...uh...sort of an acquired taste. The game is almost 100% random stuff and it can drag on for HOURS. But sometimes that's all you're really looking for.

There's a TON of digital versions of boardgames on iOS now too but I don't have that so I've never tried them.

There's a good version of Warhammer Quest on iOS. The in-app purchases are kinda ... Games Workshopish ... but the base game is fun.

Yes, it faithfully follows the board game where you tear your fucking ears off because the dice hate you.

That reminds me, there should be a blood bowl tablet version.

We used to set aside six hour time blocks for Talisman (tabletop).

    It sometimes* wasn't enough.

I have been playing crimson shroud on my 3DS and love it so far, it has really sucked me in and is definitely a great buy! And Warhammer Quest is a surprisingly great game. I am always hesitant about iOS games because they usually involve some in-game currency mechanic but I am really enjoying it when I have downtime at work. Both are solid single player games that I'm sure will keep me busy, but I am really looking for something with a multiplayer aspect. Most of the fun from playing tabletop games comes from playing with others. I still need to check out Talisman as I see that has a multiplayer option and I'm thinking of checking out Dofus/Wakfu because I know you can play Krosmaster: Arena in game. Other suggestions are of course welcome! Thanks all!

Thankfully the digital version has a save feature.

Actually Krosmaster is a seperate game and the digital version is pretty broke. There's one set up that ALWAYS WINS and if you don't use that you won't. Plus I hear the community is completely insane. The Dofus Wak-fu games are kind of fun, good enough for a try as the art is really beautiful and the classes all play very differently but unless you buy the microtransactions you won't get anywhere in it other then the tutorial and it can get REALLY grindy.

@Magic Pink‌ - Yikes, that is too bad. Hopefully they fix it, Krosmaster seems like a fun game but I like to experiment and having to play the same build over and over just to win would get boring quick. Oh well, hopefully I will have time tonight to check out Talisman.

Yeah, I would really really love to get into the board version of Krosmaster as the art style looks amazing and I really like the idea of collecting the figures, but unfortunately no one I know plays it and my local comic/game shop only runs D&D and M:tG game nights. I'm trying to get my girlfriend interested in it as I feel like she would enjoy it as well but I'd still like to have a larger player base to play against.
