Forget the plane that is an a-10 warthog no one cares about. For context the plane is flying "over a target area in operation desert storm." What I want to know are what exactly are those giant dark circles on the ground?

Farms? Oilfields? I genuinely have no clue and really want to know.

Yep. You can see the irrigation arm in each circle if you look closely. They're also all over the southwest if you ever fly back and forth between coasts.

See my guess was something to do with oilfields. I've never been west of the mississippi river so thanks!

first off 99% of the titles to picures of military operations are titled by the reporter or journalist who took the picture. the government almost never confirms or denys the subject that those reporters come up with because you don't really need to know that this was a routine training exercize in new mexico or an actual shot from desert storm.

secondly, those are 100% farms. the dark soil is top soil which has just been laid down before anything sprouted. also, the plane is not over any of the circles in the pictures which means those farms could be there to support a military installation or just farms that the plane is happening to fly over. since the shot was taken by another aircraft, I doubt it was during an actual mission.
