I usually shrug off complaints about Virtual Console content (apart from amounts of games released per week), as I remember when the Wii had it first and things would happen in the forums on a regular basis like:

Person 1:"Milon's secret castle? who wants that shit? Why isn't ultra-popular-title X out instead?"
Person 2:"Milon's secret castle? I loved that game, buying now"

But now, why is Castlevania 2 4 euro on 3DS, but 5 bucks on Wii U?

Where's my Megaman 5 and 6, Probotector 2? On 3DS, that's where. I could get the cheap price on two of those, having gotten them on Wii already, and as a weirdy completist I want those games on my Wii U screen beside their brethren.

I'm super surprised all the NES Megaman games are not on Wii U.

I remember when the idea of linking 3DS and Wii U shop accounts was mentioned first, there was conjecture that Virtual Console would be linked like playstation minis between PS3 and PSP, but I'm starting to think a massive conclusion was jumped to.

And wait, the US can redeem Club Nintendo points against Virtual Console games? How many points does that cost?

Well if anything we have a unique opportunity here, because we can be confident that Nintendo will be reading this thread now to check up on Dover. Anything we want to let them know, we can be sure they will see!

Dover is a fine person and deserves a raise and a promotion.

    Am I doing this right?

If you want to keep your job at Nintendo, then make sure that those nude photos of you never show up anywhere online.

There's a primary mascott for the hardware, a 'little sister' mascot for the handhelds (Nintendo gets twins because dual screens; Microsoft doesn't have any), mascots for game companies (NISA, Falcom, Gust, etc.), and mascots for game franchises (Tekken, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Project Diva, Pac Man, Otome Games, etc.)

What the hell is this game?

So last night I traded in my copy of Pikmin 3 - I decided I'd like to have it digitally when Mario Kart comes out. In it's place I got Need For Speed, Ninja Gaiden (I haven't played a game in this series since the NES games), and Madden because being a Wii U/PC gamer it's my one shot at any football gaming. I paid less than $10 out of pocket so I was pretty happy.

    http://www.geek.com/games/nintendo-may-unveil-wii-u-and-3ds-successors-at-e3-1592871/
The Wii U has been on sale now for 17 months, and sales have been terrible. Even with a year head start, the PS4 has already sold more and Xbox One will soon enough. Nintendo even had to cut its sales forecast late last year from 9 million to just 2.8 million units. The focus on 1st-party games has helped, and games like Mario Kart 8 are very welcome, but the Wii U is never going to be the hit with consumers Nintendo had hoped.
So it may or may not surprise you to hear that Nintendo is expected to unveil new hardware at E3 in June. The rumor is that this new hardware will form a replacement for the Wii U console. “Too soon!” I hear you shout, and yes, you’re right, it’s way too soon for Nintendo to ditch the Wii U as a platform, especially for gamers who have invested in it. However, this new hardware may still support the Wii U in some fashion.
You may remember back in January details leaked about a new Nintendo two-part console called the Fusion DS and Fusion Terminal. It seems likely that if Nintendo does announce new hardware at E3, this is what it will be.

Fusion Terminal is the home console part, and is expected to be much more powerful than the Wii U (2.2GHz 8-core CPU, 1.24GHz co-processor, Radeon HD RX 200 GPU, 6GB RAM), but also includes support for the Wiimote and Wii U GamePad. There’s also expected to be Wii U game compatibility and a built-in slot for 3DS games. So as a piece of hardware, it allows for Wii U and 3DS games to be played alongside any new titles specifically for the Fusion.
We then have the portable part of the setup called the Fusion DS. It is expected to keep the dual-display layout of the 3DS, but increase the screen size to 5.1-inches and have a resolution of 960 x 640. It will also have a card slot compatible with 3DS games as well as two circle pads.

The combination of the Fusion Terminal and Fusion DS suggests that Nintendo would replace the Wii U and 3DS in one fell swoop. But at the same time ensure backwards compatibility for games and the continued use of your console controllers.
It’s certainly a radical idea, and a surprising one, but I think that’s what Nintendo needs right now. No one is getting excited about the Wii U despite Nintendo’s continued efforts, and the 3DS, while not underpowered, is 3 years old now and did make a misstep with the whole 3D without glasses feature.

News of a new console and handheld in June will get everyone talking, and if they could deliver it for Christmas then we may have three home consoles worth talking about again.

    Haha.... Wowwww.

If they are pushing new hardware soon they better make a real online account system to seamlessly transfer everything over. Make Nintendo Network IDs legit and not tied to hardware.

  • Lindsay LohanLindsay Lohan Registered User regular
If Nintendo were unveiling new hardware I'm sure their E3 plans would have been far more grand and not focused so much on Smash Bros. With that said, I'd be thrilled if they had a way for the 3DS/Wii U to interface in a way that would allow me to display my 3ds games on my TV.

Timing seems way off. Show of hands: who thinks it's at all a good idea to unveil a successor not one month after putting out a new bundle for the current system.

Nah, I'm treating this alleged leak as I do with most; ignoring it until proof occurs.

Yeah, both systems have at least a year or two left in them. On top of announcing a new bundle, this just doesn't seem plausible.

That said, it's exactly the direction they need to go with their systems.

Hyperdimension Neptunia (series) which has entries on PS3 and Vita. I just thought the Virtual Boy comment was funny. It's moe consoles with their moe company/franchise friends fighting the villains which are moeifications of piracy. The later games are actually good. The first game... not so much, but it got a remake that's good!

Sega, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all get plenty of love. The Main Characters are Sega console characters because in this alternate world, they're still hardware manufacturers.

Wasnt the dreamcast fast after the saturn (oh snap 4 years to this's 2)? If its that fusion idea..... feels weird.

Heres me- I dont care about any game Nintendo offers anymore. we are on like iteration 10 of some of these titles. mario/zelda/metroid/golf/cart over and over to me its stale. But i firmly realize that's an opinion and do not deny anyone thier fun- ever.

Are people like me the main Nintendo problem or? what? 'Core' gamers dont like them anymore? Burnout from Wii being everywhere?

So I'll probably get Pikmin 3 with the MK 8 promotion. I haven't played the first two games - should I do that before playing 3? Or can I easily go back to them if I enjoy 3?

Also, how stressful is Pikmin and how much multi-tasking is needed? That's always been my main problem with RTS games - I always feel like I need to do about a dozen things at once and it just gets super hectic and thus not very enjoyable.

    1. If you don't care about Nintendo games, then you probably shouldn't buy a Wii U.

    2. "Iteration 10" makes it sound like they keep slapping a new skin on the same game, but generally every new iteration of a core Nintendo franchise tries to do something interesting. But most games are iterations or mutations of games that game before them. Look at the CoD franchise. Or Final Fantasy. You should take the time to actually investigate some of the games to see if they're interesting or not, rather than writing them off as "iterations" without a look; if you have, cool, but in my experience people trotting out the "same old, same old" line never gave anything on the Wii U a fair shake.

I mean, look at Super Mario 3D World:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLOKVABfrzw
Here's a game that blends the controls and navigation of a 3D platformer with the level design sense of a 2D platformer, and it works beautifully. Should you write it off because it has familiar characters in it?

I played it. Its Mario. There's coin boxes and cat suits. I have access to a wii u, but don't own one so i have played a few of these. I baby sit/ run with a Nintendo die hard. Mario golf is generally hotshots golf only sometimes a lil better... that'll be a hell of a game DLC be damned.

    I don't partake- but I don't want to live in a nintendo-less world.

If you want Nintendo to stick around, then you should probably partake?

And I didn't say "innovative", I said "interesting", though what a person finding interesting is subjective. It sounds like you're less interested in the skin; you're tired of seeing Mario? Mario's got more world-wide recognition than Mickey Mouse, he's not going anywhere, nor are the trappings of his game worlds. If you're tired of Mario but still want a Wii U platformer, try Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, maybe.

As for why are sales so bad? It's a combination of the following:
    - People saying they're tired of the "same old" things from Nintendo.
    - People who think the Wii U is just a tablet accessory for the Wii.
    - People who think the Wii U is not back-compatable with Wii games or Wiimotes.
    - People who wanted to wait for the Next Big Hardware (PS4, XB1)

All of which can be boiled down to:
    - Nintendo has been terrible at marketing this thing. They hit paydirt with the Wii and tapped and unrealized market with a casual-friendly motion-controlled console, and they seem to have expected those people to all just upgrade because "new", but that market moved to smartphones. So, now Nintendo is stuck in a weird spot where their money market is gone, "core gamers" think they're too kiddy (largely because of the glut of kiddie shovelware on the Wii), and third parties don't want to make games for them because their the only ones not running x86, and thus it's more work to port to (allegedly).

That said, they have $Nintendo in the bank, they'll ride this generation out just fine. They're not going anywhere.

The age is irrelevant. Mechanically the last six mario titles are hilariously more divergent than the last ten COD games so whatever your beef at least nintendo tries to keep it fresh.

I can POSSIBLY see a Wii U successor announced at E3 with 2015 launch plans.

A 3DS successor makes no sense seeing as how the system is doing fine and has only really come into own in the past two years.

I would hope, should this be true, that I'll be able to transfer my 3DS games that I bought digitally to the hard drive of this fancy new console so I can play them on it also, and not just the ones I have cartridges for.
