Hey @MNC Dover , you mentioned possibly creating a new OP for the game when it came out. Are you planning on doing that? I don't necessarily want to be in charge of keeping an OP up to date with friend lists and upcoming maps and modes such. :P

Yeah, I can do that. I'm not getting the game until Monday though, so I won't be able to verify all the pertinent OP information needed for maximizing new players into the game. But I'll get something whipped up soon.

Weapons. You find blueprints and take them to the weapon store.

Also some 3-slot equipment for beating it

I thought you just unlocked more weapons for use in single player.
You get hero outfit and octoling outfit

Weird, I figured digital would be a big thing in Japan since they put a premium on saving physical space in their homes.

Japanese consumers seem suspicious of digital purchases, for some reason. A lot of them seem to assume it's some kind of scam.

Man, you should read up on it, it's fascinating. Japan is not the technological haven you think it is.

For example, they don't really do credit, debit, or even ATM's there. If you need cash and the banks are closed... sucks to be you.

They do have ATM's though, they're usually located in malls and convenient stores. I was always able to get some cash while I was there.

It really is an interesting place (I lived there for a year). I found the whole cash thing really annoying at first and found myself without much money for the weekend a few times. At least it's a safe place to live so you don't need to worry at all about losing your money or having your wallet stolen.

When I lived there (almost 10 years ago now) almost none of my students (I was an English teacher) had internet in their homes. I got blazingly fast internet for extremely cheap and my students really didn't see the point of having it. They used their phones for online stuff (which wasn't nearly as common because the internet wasn't as prevalent as it was in North America). I've always thought this is why Nintendo hasn't really embraced online gaming and policies as much. They really look to Japan as the inspiration for all their policies.

Of course I should mention I lived in Northern Japan in the boonies so things might have been very different in Tokyo, Osaka, etc...

I walked into a fairly well-trafficked Toys R Us at 2 PM and they had a few 3-packs left as well as both the individual inkling girl and boy amiibos. I mean, that was the only place I checked since those were the ones I wanted, so small sample size, but I don't think you're necessarily instantly screwed.

Well, I mean, they do make games about people who fight aliens on space stations using swords and arrows...

I got to my Target around 10A and there was one Inkling boy left. The clerk said there wasn't a lot of stock of them to begin with though, surprised me as I thought there'd be a lot.

In fairness, the kind of "you bought it, it's yours to keep" digital storefronts typified by iTunes and PSN are not the historical norm in Japan, there are a ton of download services that are downright awful, with crazy DRM and content "purchases" that expire two years after buying them, if they've even updated the DRM client to work on the version of Windows you upgraded to in the meanwhile.

    But I digress.

More on-topic, picked up my console bundle on lunch, looking forward to jumping online tonight and getting my arse handed to me.

Oh, really? I thought single-player and multiplayer unlocks were totally separate. I guess that explains why there's clearly nothing in the shop that looks like the silhouette of a Dynamo Roller.

Also, FUCK the Dynamo Roller. What do you even do against that thing?

On the subject of weapon unlocks, why is it that it seems like every single unlock is a "gain range or killing power, lose ink coverage" tradeoff? You'd think in a game where ink coverage is the winning condition the opposite would be true. Maybe all the good wide-splatter weapons are in singleplayer.

gonna lay Some mindblowing truth on e'ryone here.

    Longer range? Narrow cone? STRAFE

strafing is almost tantamount to putting two or three rollers together.
not always the best time to use it, but if you know you are alone, and have a big area to operate. its sick point gen.

Yeah also if you plug a usb drive to your WiiU everything from that point gets installed on it which is weird. Splatoon and every recent eShop purchase I have is installed on my 32GB USB thumbdrive. So far no problems though even though I know its not recommended.

I believe the reason USB thumb drives are not recommended because flash has limited read/write amounts. That's not normally a big deal for a thumb drive designed to hold powerpoints or transfer mpegs around, but the constant reading and writing on a game console speeds up the process.

So you shouldn't have any problems until it just stops working.

ive seen some amiibo gear, but they dont have abilities you couldnt get on other gear.

secondary skills are pure random, and only become active after youve worn it in battle to level it up

it does have two to three secondary slots and can be worn out the gate... so you have more perks at the low levels.
I still wiped the floor with that guy though, because skill is the biggest factor in who is better

From what I understand you can already play with friends, but there's no guarantee you will always be on the same team, that's randomized every match. But you can keep playing together in the same match as long as you both keep just waiting in the queue after each match.

Later they are adding a mode to play with just your friend group, I think. Premades only. Something like that.

And they're adding new weapons and clothes and maps and modes. I think it was a new map every 2 weeks, and the big update is in August adding the premade group thing and other modes.
