I just replayed this in anticipation of the third game, and think everyone should! It's a fantastic, beautiful action RPG that does everything except for gender relations well. (It is odd to see everyone complaining about AC: Unity at E3 with the Witcher right there! Ah well.) Anyhow, it's good! Open to members of the PA Community Group.

I've been looking for a 4x space game recently, and both Sins of a Solar empire and GalCiv2 are both in the sale, which one do people recommend?
*Sins is fairly light on the traditional 4X elements, it is more a 4X/RTS hybrid . Really good game despite this though
*GalCiv2 is a more traditional 4X (given its age that isn't surprising) but it has not aged particularly well. Gameplay is still rock solid but the UI/mechanics might not be as obvious as you are used to.

Personally I think Sins is easier to get in to, and if you get the latest version Rebellion that includes all the content of the previous expansions so there is a LOT of content there to delve into.
GalCiv2 is a great game but without the nostalgia it is a little harder to recommend.

Thanks for the advice in the previous thread. I thinking I'm going to pick up Sins, I'd heard good things about GalCiv, but I didn't really appreciate how old it is!

If you like strategy games at all, it is certainly worth playing X-com.
The original is still the best, followed by Apocalypse, then Terror from the Deep.
The recent X-com is okay but hampered by bugs and some obnoxious gameplay elements.
Then there's Xenonauts, which is a recent indie release modeled after the original X-com - by all accounts fantastic, and that is where I would direct you first.

Yes, you should. It's fantastic. Play the basic version through first, and then wait a few months and come back to a whole new game with the expansion.

I have a game stuck in limbo. Krummith's give of The Bureau is just sitting there as a new gift. I can't accept it to my library, my inventory, or decline it because it has apparently already been used. It won't go away or let me do anything with it.

Oddly enough, that seems to be how my day at work is going too...

Maybe a restart of Steam or try accepting it from the browser?

I'll try the client when I get home. If only I could install a Steam client at work.

Well, I guess I could, but I'm sure it would lead to having much less Steam money at some point.

@Madican‌ DmC is super fun! I haven't played Darksiders, but based on the video clips I'm seeing, the basic gameplay is pretty similar. The mechanics of DmC are very tight, and the game rewards "stylish" play (basically, you're rewarded for using a variety of abilities instead of the same couple moves). It's a lot of fun and I recommend it highly if you're a fan of action games.

@kalnaur @Madican DMC was very fun from what I played of it (I'd guess around 40% or so). It's not hardcore old school Devil May Cry game play but it's a well made game in a genre I really enjoy. I got sidetracked by some other game(possibly next gen consoles dropping not sure) like I do way too often but I'd like to finish it and would say I have easily gotten $12 of value from the game my self.

Crack it. The answer is always to crack it.

Either you get a foil, good for five times the cost of a booster, usually, or three individual cards that can be sold for very slightly more than a single booster.

I liked DMC quite a bit. The action kind of involves quick swapping between different weapons to access moves that counter or break through your enemies moves at that moment.
It's goofy and fun and the action seems well done. Pretty much I think the main negative is if you're coming at it from wanting it to be Devil May Cry, in which case YMMV. I think serious Devil May Cry fans found it lacking what they wanted.

Depends on the game, really. There are some where not even the 3 most expensive non-foil cards cover the price of a booster, so if you don't get a foil you end up losing a bit.

Okay, I picked up Far Cry 3 Deluxe + DMC (and Vergil DLC). Got two cards out of it, including a Foil #4!

So those point stealing items are definitely in action. Just noticed the score tracking page actually lines out the gains and losses on a graph. All of the spikes on the bottom of the bar are point losses.
    http://store.steampowered.com/promotion/summer2014teams/
My poor Blue team has had 18,000 points stolen from it.
Green lost 21,500. Pink lost 15,000. Red lost only 4,000. Purple lost 14,000.

The more of these sales that happen the more days I don't know if I should feel like a boss or some kind of digital hoarder. Of the current sale games I own all but 4 of them, and of those I am completely indifferent to 2 and kind of interested in 2.

It's weird that Red is so far behind, even with having fewer points stolen than the others. Since they were randomly assigned I figured they'd each get the same proportion of crazy big spenders who were super into the metagame, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Yes, anyone on the fence should buy XCOM: Enemy Unknown and the expansion Enemy Within immediately.

You can disable DLC in the Steam client now, so if you just want to play vanilla to get your feet wet, you can, then activate the expansion later.

Shadowrun is a far better SRPG than X-Com, IMO. You have far better control over your characters and the field of play.

    Very story-driven, too.

That's (real) randomness for you. It forms clusters against whatever you *might* expect.

The initial points bursts all seem fairly even. Everyone stayed pretty close together for a while. There's probably a psychological impact to being the last team in the stretch for a while though. That then less people felt in a hurry to gain points or make efforts to swing things by using expensive items etc. Plus I bet a lot of the truly crazy hopped onto whatever was perceived to be doing the best at the time. Hence the crazy team token prices.

Speaking of crazy, most of the points steal things have been bought off the market already. Only a single 500 point one on there for like $90+ Which is not likely to happen.

Token volume is relatively microscopic. There's only been like 300 sold. I suppose the people liable to be buying them are probably outliers...
    I dunno.
Maybe the Red team has a conspiracy going. They're going to hoard everything for now and win the last five days running.

I couldn't put SR down. I mean the vanilla version, too. X-Com felt tired after three missions. It's too chaotic, you have little control over the map or predicting enemy movements.
And no one matters. There's no penalty for losing. Just make more grunts.
