PAX South Ticket Sale Date Estimates
So I've only ever been to East and I'm trying to estimate when I need to be stalking the forums/Twitter religiously for the release of badges for PAX South since I don't always just hang out and refresh those things every hour of every day. Ha! There's no PAX South site just yet. Does anyone have any ideas, just based on past experience getting badges for different PAXes, as to when they might go on sale? Thanks for the input!

Interview with Khoo during PAX East and he says they should be on sale in the next 2-3 months.
Attendee: Prime 12,13,14 East 13
Steam - Miker525 | Xbox Live - Miker525| PSN - MikeRosenberg
Websites - Gamerations - MikeRosenberger.com
Pinny Pals - Miker525
Also, I wouldn't be too nervous about not getting a badge. It's good that you're on your toes, but PAX South is brand new. I would be amazed if it sold out anywhere near as fast as PAX East (or God forbid, Prime). You'll be fine

What hotel did you grab? I'm curious what the "Westin" of South will be. Cause I've always been at one of the farther hotels at East.
The next closest is the Marriott Riverwalk (the Marriott Rivercenter is one block further than the Riverwalk hotel) which is just across the street. You can cross under the street if you don't like traffic, but you'll need to go back to street level to enter the convention center.

I was really pulling for Atlanta since the Southeast never gets the cool stuff. San Antonio is still way the hell out there.
I'm going to guess that it won't be until after Prime. More specifically, I'm going to guess that South passes will go on sale in late September and East passes will go on sale in October.
In an interview he did at East, Khoo stated that South tickets would go on sale within 2-3 months. After Prime seems later than he intended in that interview; then again, who knows if Prime was supposed to go on sale sooner. I'm still counting on June/July until he says otherwise.
(As always, "Soon" is always a variable definition )

What they "usually" do isn't worth much. Look at this year's Prime sales. Prime normally went on sale 19 weeks before it happened. This year is was 13 weeks. Usually works until they have any reason to change it. Having a new event to sell for is a big change. Selling 19 weeks before South would be a week after Prime, which'll never happen. So when you factor in the normal event recovery times, you start with very little margin for slipping. I'd expect South to normally go on sale a good bit before before Prime. After is too little margin, right before gets in the way of Prime prep.
They said South would go on sale 2-3 months after East. That is June 12th - July 12th. I see no reason to doubt that.
I have every reason to doubt that. I have quite a few people who I know who work in the San Antonio Area Hotel and Tourism Industry and from what I am hearing they are not even sure at this point the people organizing PAX South can pull it off at all much less start the sales in a couple of weeks. The company that runs PAX is going full force on PRIME now, and immediately after that will need to gear up for the Aussies. The gaming conventions in that area are pretty establish thanks to the two big Austin Gods, and there is not a lot of need for a after the holidays convention when nobody has anything new to announce. The group was counting on PAX name recognition to be the driving force more then availability of new gaming content. Based on all this, coupled with several major companies already saying they see no reason to have a presence, South is shaping up to be the Bastard Step Child of PAX, if not the entire gaming conventions community. Until they have something to offer, which by all accounts they don't right now, ticket sales are not going to be a high priority. There efforts are better spent on Prime and Australia until October.
Just in case you think I am being too much of a "Negative Nancy" I already book my hotel and am working on some "community activities" for that weekend. The event will happen, but I am skeptical it will live up to full PAX hype.
Eh. Companies never really made BIG game announcements at the PAX's. Sure there were small announcements like Ducktails in 2013 but uts not like Uncharted has ever premiered there. Heck we already have Batman Arkham Knight getting delayed and others will follow so there shouldn't be a shortage of games to play.
I don't have any insight or insiders knowledge but I would assume that Pax didn't pick this date on a dart board. If they are going to invest in another Pax then they are going to talk to developers first about the end of January.
Ha, I remember hearing the bastard step child analogy for east too.
As there is no forum, no site, and nothing to hype yet, its a little difficult to picture ticket sales in the next 2-4 weeks.
But in any case to Paraphrase a bad movie (ok some of you liked it) "You had me at PAX South"
Good luck and all the best wishes,
See you in San Antonio
Having organized stuff before (albeit not of this size), there's usually a very limited number of people (<5 on the hotel/expo side) who are involved until the blocks hit and the announcement drops to prevent all sorts of misinformation/false starts on stuff while you're still hashing out some of the details.
Far as hype, I'm not sure PAX (in the US at least) has ever bothered to pay for advertising. People very much enjoy the show, and so news types want to spread the word about their goings on. The Hype builds super fast when they announce something, and if they want to build it before they go on sale, all they have to say is "Tickets..... Soon(tm)". Meanwhile they can busily plan the behinds the scenes bits without having to worry about or manage the "Hype".
RE: it being a slow season for video games. Maybe that leaves more room for independent developers. Maybe more room for table top. Maybe it will be part of a shift in when the busy season even is. Maybe this PAX will have more focus on the gaming community and less on the games themselves. Maybe it is a changing event and will evolve over time. It probably will be a slightly different PAX with its own unique twist, this is a good thing.
Thats all in the future, i'm confident it will be a fun and rewarding event, and look forward to seeing it grow.
I LOVE PAX, I SUPPORT PAX, I CANT WAIT TO GO. But ticket sales in June would be crazy.
Look for the PAX FANS PACKAGE I am putting together which should be available July 1, 2014.... I am making no money for putting it together, just trying to ensure we all have a great time.
I wouldn't say it is crazy since July is the latest they could go. August through November is too busy (we know key PA members are busy in the weeks leading up to PAX and that PA typically goes low-key after PAX), and I strongly doubt they would sell South tickets as late as December for a new event.
In essence, I can't imagine anything later than the next 45 days.
