Netbook + Water

halcyontimeshalcyontimes Registered User new member
Hello everyone! I have an Asus Eee PC 1015PX. A/ couple months ago we had some hard rain here and I discovered my backpack is not as waterproof as I thought. From the title you can probably guess where this goes next. Anyway, I've put off trying to fix my netbook until now so it's had lots of time to dry off. Here's what it does:

It turns on. Once it turns on, it hangs on the boot screen. The keyboard doesn't work and the power button that turned it on cannot be used to turn it off so I have to manually remove the battery.

Anybody know how I can go about fixing this? Let me know if you need more details.

Honest answer. You don't fix it. It's a what 3 or 4 year old netbook that was $300 new?

You could try and hunt ebay for one to use as parts, like one with a cracked screen, and hope to swap it's mobo and other internals into yours but taking apart and reassembly laptops is a bitch and a half, and the smaller they are the worse it is.

Agreed. Check e-bay, and you might get something cheap to swap the guts with, but is it really worth your time and frustration? I'm all for fixing one's own stuff, but a little netbook is going to be TERRIBLY finicky, and if your repair isn't 100% or the guts you received aren't 100%, then you're in the same boat and you're out the investment in parts.

even if you could find a shop with the ability to fix it, it would almost certainly more expensive than just getting a new netbook

the power button doesn't work correctly and it won't boot successfully, suggesting major damage to one or more critical components. Even if you could identify which components those were, pulling the thing apart and replacing them may be impossible. You might be able to salvage the HD, but that would only really be important if there is data on it that you need.
