[Hearthstone] THIS THREAD IS DEAD. POST IN THE NEW ONE!
I don't think there is a card in this game that has impressed me less than Sunwalker. There are certainly a large list of terrible cards & Sunwalker does not sit among them, but for all of the talk about how much value it packs, I've hardly ever seen it do anything other than sit alone on it's side of the field, ineffectually trading-off against some earlier threat that already piled-in the card advantage or getting BK'd and killing tempo for the player that set her down.
Does anybody else here Arena on Asia? I'm just... consistently getting whomped on Asia, and I have no idea why. I don't *think* I'm drafting differently on Asia than I am on the other servers and I can't imagine I'm getting different card selections, but man. Is this like a SC thing and the Koreans are going pro on Arena or something?
It's probably just that NA is full of fish that you can farm away wins on, and Asia isn't (the NA scene is larger, but full of much worse players, whereas the Asian scene is smaller but full of really competent players).
Sunwalker is there to eat removal that would have otherwise got your Tirion. That's it really.
I just took my Control Mage up against a Control Warlock. Twenty two minutes of having my balls stepped on.
Things I had to contend with: two Void Callers, two Void Terrors, two hatched Nerubian Eggs, two Molten Giants, two Dread Infernals, two Doomguards... and Illidan.
The crazy thing is that I either blasted or traded away everything on that list except for the last Doomguard, which got me. I would've had the bastard, except Stalagg was sixth from the bottom of my deck and Feugen was either the last card in my deck or second-to-last. Grrrrrr. Salty.
Was doing great with Dragon Priest before the patch changes, now I'm back to rank 4. Tried some variant mage decks (Sjow's 'getting back to #1) but it wasn't really consistent vs. handlock. Not much luck with a control priest deck either. (Amaz-ish) Not sure what to go with at this point, but doubtful that I'll hit legend. /sigh
Holy crap, just had an epic game on my Arena Paladin at 8-2. Went up against another Paladin and it was just a brutal slog of combat and yo-yoing health and buffs flying everywhere. I had a 6/5, then he had a 7/6, both of which got in a face hit before dying, I ran my 6/6 Stormwind Knight into his 4/6 Spectral Knight, then Crazed Alchemist'd my 6/2 into a 2/6 to protect him and my board full of weenies, then he buffed a 2/1 twice to kill my 2/6, etc etc.
So we're exchanging blows and every turn is super tense. I now have a Harvest Golem, an Ancient Brewmaster (who returned a Guardian of Kings to my hand) and a Guy, all at full stats. He has some weenie on the board and his turn begins. He's at low 20's hp and I have 4 (yes, 4, despite having played that Guardian of Kings like two turns ago). He drops motherfuckingTIRION FORDRING (deseridatus bellum!) and summons a guy, and I commence freaking the fuck out. BUT! Destiny is with me this day! Golem, Brewmaster and Guy into Tirion, he gets Ashbringer, and I play OOZE BIYATCH and replay the GoK.
Having thus used what feels like half my deck to eliminate the Tirion threat (holy crap he's such a good card) and bring myself back up to 10 HP, I finally feel like I've broken my opponent's back. Nope! I still need a Truesilver Champion (my second) and a Lay on Hands to stretch out into a win. Hot damn I wish I'd been streaming that game.
I added the guy as a friend because I'd legit like to compliment him on his play. What an epic game at 8-2. I'm afraid to enter my next match, lol.

I... I just ran into two straight shockadins.
The fuck? I thought they were like, the deadest of the dead subclasses.

Thijsnl's control paladin game is how my control paladin games have been going: got pyromancer and/or consecrate? You'll never see Equality. Got Equality? You'll never see pyro or consecrate!

Freeze Mage (without giants, just the spell finish) should be good against handlock.
Heh. Played my 9-2 match, came up against a Druid. I had 8 HP, he played charging Druid of the Claw and Savage Roar. Was about to Well Played but then he sent the Druid into my 6/6 and played Claw and sent himself into my 4/4. I won two turns later.

I've been known to do such silly things while autopiloting in Hearthstone and multi-tasking elsewhere.
Played my 10-2 match against a Warlock; maintained board advantage most of the game and whittled him down to ~4 hp or so. Then he played Jaraxxus; guess I know how he got this far, heh. But my board was too strong for him, even with a Doomguard next turn, and he too fell to my mooks.
Final boss time! And it's a................ Hunter?!? Holy shit.
Opening hand is Hammer of Wrath, Worgen Infiltrator and Azure Drake, and I'm not on the coin. Gulp.
Wow!
P1: Worgen
H1: Undertaker
P2: trade, then Guy
H2: Coin into Dancing Swords
P3: Peacekeeper the DS
H3: Animal Companion into Misha, 1/4 into my Guy
P4: Draw WINSILVER CHAMPION
Edit oh my god, his turn six was hero power pass. My seven was Kings my 4/2 into an 8/6 to dodge explosive trap and play Golem.
HE CONCEDED! 12-2 with Paladino!
1x Avenge
1x Worgen Infiltrator
1x Zombie Chow
1x Swamp Ooze
1x Argent Protector
1x Bloodsail Raider (MVP, took out a 6/7 with a SSC's buff)
1x Crazed Alchemist
1x Mad Bomber
1x Nerubian Egg (pretty sure this forstalled my only Mage opponent's flamestrike for like 3 turns)
1x Aldor Peacekeeper (MVP)
2x Harvest Golem
1x Shattered Sun Cleric
2x Truesilver Champion
1x Blessing of Kings
1x Consecration
1x Hammer of Wrath
1x Ancient Brewmaster (so many value plays with this guy. Refreshed Guardian of Kings, dodged Corruption, yum)
1x Chillwind Yeti
1x Dragonling Mechanic
1x Azure Drake
1x Darkscale Healer (also an MVP)
(working from memory now)
1x Spectral Knight
1x Stranglethorn Tiger
1x Stormwind 4/4 and 2/2 guy
1x Guardian of Kings
1x Stormwind Champion
1x Lay on Hands
and I can't remember the last card right now. Wasn't an epic or legendary.
250 gold, a Mindgames (lol), a gold Commanding Shout (lol) and a pack which turned into 40 dust. Somewhat unexceptional rewards, but I appreciate the dust on my quest to a golden murlock deck.

I've been known to do such silly things while autopiloting in Hearthstone and multi-tasking elsewhere.
the number of times i've said "oh wait i had lethal" as i click end turn is alarmingly high
Drafted another Paladin deck. By turn 6 of my first game, I had played Sword of Justice and cleared his board while developing two 5/7 Spectral Knights.
On his next turn he played my Equality (my only Equality, thoughtstolen out of the 24 cards in my deck) and used battlecry minions to pop my Knights. What a heartbreaker. 0-1 =(
he made the plays he needed to make, be it unorthodox or what. i wouldn't call it luck, though. even from his little mini post-game interview, you could tell it was just all risk assessment on his part. luck would've been NOT doing those plays and instead hoping for some sort of better value top deck solution, imo.
This is the future. This is what we built. This is what we wanted. It must have been. Because we all had the fucking choice, didn't we? It is only our money that allows commercial culture to flower. If we didn't want to live like this, we could have changed it at any time, by not fucking paying for it.
So let's celebrate by all going out and buying the same burger. -transmet
The real question is, were those decisions really smart, or really lucky?
Obviously it is luck and I'm pretty sure Twitch chat will back me up. I'm saying this about HS competitors having been to 0 competitions and having full view of both players' hands. I mean, I've watch so many good HS players on their streams so I'm like, 5 times better than the average HS competitor by now. /s
Seriously speaking, I don't think you'd ever know unless you know what the person's thought process is. The commentators are usually there to give context to player decisions but even they have their own way of thinking.
I crafted Sylvanas because she's useful in Priest decks and she's just a good all around legendary. However, having never really played with her before, I seem to be missing the nuances of the card. I can't figure out when the right time to play her is. I don't think I've yet to steal anything besides a double Syl trade that sent a spider to him and back to me.
So, since I've started spending all my hoarded gold for Naxx and building the decks for the 3 total bullshit heroics, I've gone from 5500 to 1800. Should I just use the rest, since I heard the next expansion is just something like 100 new cards with no Solo adventure attached?
If you're not playing shaman Sylvanas+reincarnate, you usually never steal anything with her. Your opponent will kill her and you don't get anything. But they often need to jump through a whole lot of hoops in order to kill her without ceding the board to you, and that's how she shines.

Yeah, exactly this. She either baits out poly/hex or silences that can't go on your other stuff, or she causes board control to get really wonky and either force them not to play minions or trade inefficiently to avoid her MCing something.

not -never-. I steal things a lot with her.
but it's rarely going to be valuable unless you've already depleted their removal.
(also priests can sw:d your own sylvanus. not as awesome as reincarnate but it can be great)
The real question is, were those decisions really smart, or really lucky?
And I'm not being snarky or anything, I honestly just can't tell when watching players who are considerably better than me.
I'd have to watch again but it was never like 'that was dumb... but wait because of this next unexpected thing it became good'
it was things like, just the one example I can remember, he went face instead of trading and the announcers all went 'totally didn't expect that but it was smart' and then he won next turn
he was probably going to win anyway so it's not the best example, but he just saw things differently than the expectations and it went well. repeatedly.
that is, they were never 'misplays' that randomly turned good, just alternate options that frequently wound up better for the situation.
I used Sylvanas for my last win for my mage daily today. Opponent played Ragnaros, i traded all my minions into his, and then killed my last one myself with the mage hero power and played Sylvanas leaving her the only thing on the board for a 50/50 chance of me getting his Ragnaros.
He couldn't silence her and on the next turn I got Rag and he conceded.

I'm so salty. I just lost against a Paladin in arena with 4 Truesilvers, a Ragnaros and an Avenging Wrath.

very satisfying since I can't tell myself it's only because I have paid to win.
