My LGS told me they finally got my Ravens in (3 months after the initial order).

I get them home and find out they're Raven-Bs (vehicle transport) not Raven-As (infantry).

Ah well, I was going to buy some eventually for Longbows, and they're better proxies for the Raven-As than the Scourge Mauraders I was using, especially since my main opponent plays Scourge and hasn't painted his stuff yet.

I'm getting close to grabbing the 2 player starter. My brother already has a rulebook, so I should be able to keep everything but the UCM. So I was looking at what else to add, and there's some pretty fun ways to add to a force for Scourge.

First up I want a Desolator, because it's basically Sovereign, which is awesome. Then I saw the heavy tanks. Which can carry Razorworms. Which are then carried by dropships. So I'll probably grab a fourth medium dropship, a pack of Slayer heavy tanks, and a pack of Razorworms. Then maybe a pack of Corsair fast movers for fun. And then call it quits until it's all painted and I've played a bunch.

I think that the Scourge HGTs get a bad rap due to how comparatively fragile they are (no extra range and no extra armor, so a lot of the stuff used to kill tanks has a decent chance to double out the DPs and kill them just as quickly as a MGT).

I'd consider tormenters though, just for the ability to savage infantry in the building and then shove razor worms in their face

Need to get more games in. Bought a bunch of PHR recently and haven't had a chance to use any of it.

I had a side view of the Kodiak and Ferrum, but the picture came out blurry so I'll have to take another one tomorrow.

Update! 4 months later My LGS was finally able to get me two packs of Raven-As

    And a set of Archangels.

Next game is going to be interesting.

Raven As are seriously hard to find. Probably has something to do with how awesome they are for getting UCM bros into buildings.

Yeah, I honestly only ordered one pack, saw they got two and snagged them both just in case I needed the other one down the line.

So it looks like Dropzone Commander will have a significant presence at this year's NOVA Open with demos, events, a tournament, and every SuperNOVA pass bag will have a free starter army in it.

It looks like Simon will be there doing all the stuff and having gotten drunk with him quite a bit at the last NOVA Open I can verify he's cool people.

There's a very good chance I may be doing the tournament.

I'm sure most of us are either at Invasion or are following on other sites, but for those who aren't:

    http://www.beastsofwar.com/eventslist/invasion-2015/

    New commanders revealed:

UCM: Heavy gunship with AWACS style radar dish.
    PHR: Hades variant
    Scourge: Giant crab walker
    Shaltari: Grav tank
Resistance: no new commander, but they are getting a special Drill.

new concepts up too, looks like Scourge is gonna start channeling Everblight while UCM is going to get heavy infantry that suck in CQB but have good tank-busting weapons.

Ok, so the local lgs is starting a 750pt league and am considering joing / starting. I am thinking about starting resistance. Looking into it , i was going with the battle box and a couple cyclones to start with , just curious if anyone has any experience playing with / against them.

Unfortunately not yet. I tried looking up Resistance lists on the Hawk forums but every list I've seen jumped right to 1500 pts.

There was a bit of unit discussion though, so you may want to check them out here: Hawk's Resistance forums

I don't have my rulebook handy and I'm at work. What are cyclones?

Gotcha. I would actually suggest considering more infantry. @mr_mich and I played a roughly 1000pt game with him using 2 PHR starters and me using a UCM starter and some extra tanks and it was very clear that his having 2x the infantry squads that I had was a huuuuuuge advantage.

Admittedly, however, I know basically nothing about Resistance.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Resistance starter comes with 3 squads of infantry rather than 2 like the other factions (3x2 bases compared to 2x3 bases).

  • DraevenDraeven Registered User regular
I looked also, the consesus from what I can gather is the Hannibals aren't quite good enough for their points, cyclones are the shit, and the bikes units are in line for a nerf or something to that effect. I have decided to go the route of Shaltari since i do dig their look, I know they are a bit fragile, with not the biggest Energy guns but they seem so mobile.

    New Errata up:

    Main rulebook

    Reconquest

    Main notes:

Shaltari stuff got more expensive (current estimate is that the prior 1500 pt lists are now 40-50 points over the limit).
    PHR transports got cheaper.
Several "never take" or "army tax" units got some pretty significant boosts (UCM Scimitar, Falcon, Kodiak, PHR Menchit).
Flying Commanders (Scourge Desolator and the new UCM Phoenix) now contribute to focal points.
Flame weapons now ignore evasion countermeasures.

Even more reasons to make 'fwoosh' and 'pewpew' noises with my UCM. I'll have to read through these this evening.

    The UCM changes:

Kodiak's Orbital Strike now has Area-S

Falcon dropped to 40 pts and has E+2 countermeasures

Scimitar's laser now has MF 1" and E11

Seraphim bunker busters are now E11 and Demolisher 3+D3 instead of D6

just played my first game with shaltari and lost my ass 5-0 , he was running 8 stands of infantry, and all our infantry ended up in a 4 turn cqb, that ultimately went his way, good learning game for damn sure.

So, have played 4 games now, have lost each and everyone but have found that I have really enjoyed each and every game with out a doubt. I feel that even with a sub optimal list I have been in every single game I have played , and had I used my miniatures and tactis right, prolly would of come out on top.

Morskitter wrote "Spikes, choppas, tentacles, magic? Can't hold a candle to Sergeant Pimp here."

My understanding is that Shaltari is hard to learn, but once you do they are hard to catch up to. Once I get my UCM to where I'm happy with them I may pick up a Shaltari starter.

  • DraevenDraeven Registered User regular
they are very tough, it really doesn't help i can't make a shield save for the love of god.

If I had the money I would of gotten the Resistance starter, but being all resin and massivly more expensive than the other plastic starters. :P I know people bemone Hannibls and complain they dont make their points back, but they are basic tanks with 2dp, 2 good shots, and machineguns :P

I'm at work so I can't really look those things up but is that only 2 infantry squads?

Because infantry is not somewhere you want to cut corners.

EDIT: nm, destroyers are infantry. Carry on.

3 it looks like, two squads of destroyers and one warrior horde.

You look like you are too light on AA, 8 Minders don't scare my UCM, and one squad of Reapers up front are gonna get focused

  • ExtreaminatusExtreaminatus Go forth and amplify, the Noise Marines are here!Registered User regular
I guess I could drop the Stalkers for their AA equivalent? Possibly pick up some fast movers?

Basically, I don't really want to pick up another group of Reapers and a transport.

  • DraevenDraeven Registered User regular
really not alot scares UCM, having a10 on damn near everything is nice, and their fast fliers are dman nice.

Morskitter wrote "Spikes, choppas, tentacles, magic? Can't hold a candle to Sergeant Pimp here."

I was thinking more of the drones which are faster, longer ranged, and cheaper that I use to pick them (minders) off >.>

Should I drop the minders in favor of something else?

edit: Or should I just drop Scourge for UCM?

    Extreaminatus on
  • NobodyNobody Registered User regular
Nah scourge are actually doing pretty well in the tournament scene right now and UCM...aren't.

I'm not an expert on Scourge (other than fighting them) so I can't really give you much in the way of pointers other than finding a way to fit some of the AA walkers (Ravagers?) into the list as they can tear up drones and Phoenixes

The commander should also probably be the CV4 one (I think that one is CV3).

  • ExtreaminatusExtreaminatus Go forth and amplify, the Noise Marines are here!Registered User regular
I'll try to get it up to 4 and probably swap the Stalkers for their AA variant.

    Hey All.

Gonna dust off my models and try to get some games in this Friday. I play PHR. I ordered some clear plastic Hex bases for my walkers. They are too easy to assemble off balance. So several of my early assemblies do not stand up. Hoping the bases come in soon so I dont have to use putty and WM bases.

I'm rereading the rules to remember stuff. Has anyone ever made newer cards for the unit's stats in the game? Last I checked there was one site, but they didn't update any of the stats past 1.0.

I think most people at this point are just relying on the summary printouts from FFOR
