you didn't specify for story only, but I think city's story is fine anyway
but the industry is so volatile it's kind of a loaded question. if half life flopped we never would have gotten half life 2. did valve intend to make half life 2 from the beginning when so much hinged on how well half life did?
I'm not even necessarily against you on this Vow. I didn't have much fun with Majoras Mask and something about the general art style and music turns me the heck off. And that feel good feel is more important to me than the academic symbolism and meaning to a story.
Speaking of fun, or the lack thereof, I'm playing Mario Kart 8 right now
It is the first Mario Kart I've played since...64, I believe
I've never had fun with this series in the past, and I'm not having fun with it now, exactly, maybe? I'm not sure
It's boring me right now, I'm getting first in every race so far without even really trying or being good at these games (like I said, haven't played in well over a decade)
And yet I keep playing
Probably because it looks so pretty and I just want to see all the courses
The pandering (I kinda hate what "fanservice" implies) is really inexcusable. Honestly all the female costume design in that game is fucked, save for like, the priestesses and a handful of the dresspheres.
You're right about Rikku's motivations, I had forgotten that aspect. The tack the writers take by bringing in a huge threat is disappointing, but it does provide a fair few avenues for fleshing Yuna out, and ultimately leads to some really great exchanges where she works through some stuff she'd previously left unsaid.
I suppose it is really a matter of how much weight you place on the things the game gets right versus the things it gets wrong.
Also it's legal to marry your cousin in parts of Japan but it's considered pretty weird, so that's Brother explained, I guess? He's the worst.
Played Fantasy Life for a little bit, seems fun so far. There are so many things to level up. It's like if you took the Call of Duty bar filling and put it into animal crossing. I levelled up my guy, and his stats, and his life(job) and the specific parts of the job (for example with the tailor I started at I now have level 2 garment making, which is seperate from cloth making or hat making). Plus individual skill levels with specific recipes ( I levelled my dandelion cloth skill up so I can make multiples or automate the crafting. And then overall skills like running, I levelled up my running going back and forth to the shop. So many bars to fill. All the bars all the time.
I actually really like 13-2 as well, it's just super easy and has like two new encounters over 13. It's really interesting that they take a completely different approach to 13's world than they did with Spira. Instead of revisiting old familiar locations and seeing how they've changed, with each new 13 game you get like, a bunch of new areas and never go back to the old ones. Then again, I suppose 13 is way more disjointed than Spira ever was, with no actual transition between areas because that all happens in cutscenes.
Mario Kart 150 CC with frantic items is a damn good time with friends, I don't think I'd spend any time with it by myself though.

Marrying a cousin is legal in lots of parts of the world. Afaik it's not really that big of a deal genetically unless the family, y'know, keeps doing it every generation.
Some cultures think it's super gross and some cultures don't think it's a big deal at all. Just one of those things.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

My problem I forsee is I am trying to get my brother interested in this and Monster hunter
He finds Theatrhythm weird like why would you mash a RPG and rhythm game?
He found the set up of Monster Hunter took forever and then complained how they turn you loose into the wild really questionable
I told him the neat thing about MH4 and Fantasy Life is they both have Multiplayer! and it seems stable?
Yeah I remember being surprised when I came across it in a manga but no one seemed particularly bothered except for the fact that the cousin was a creeper.
Also how have I never realised that one of my fave manga authors is called Mitsuru Adachi? Persona 5 to heavily feature baseball confirmed.
I wasn't a fan of FF13-2 because neither of the two leads were that interesting and I didn't like the monster stuff. The combat also felt like a big step away from what I enjoyed in FF13.

My biggest complaint with 13-2 was that eventually your monsters were WAY better at their role than Sara or Noel could ever be.
I remember getting a big yellow mech that did 3x as much damage as a commando as Noel could, and I had maxed commando out on Noel.
honestly i felt noel had a way more coherent and likable story than just about anyone in 13. granted it's a pretty low bar, but at least he kind of had a character.

....Grand Prix, I think?
The main one, cups with four courses
Ah, well see there's you're problem right there. Grand Prix is designed to be winnable by most skill levels, so you can unlock all the characters and tracks. If you're looking for a challenge, race against actual people. 8 actually has a pretty good random matchup system, so you can just go into the online single player and get a pretty good race out of the people who happen to be playing at the time.
G&T also has a fun tournament that meets every Sunday (check for the Mario Kart thread). The competition is fucking STIFF though. I thought I was a bit of a hotshot, placing first in all the computer battles, but I'm struggling to place in the top 6 each race. Sometimes I get knocked to the bottom of the pack.

I think my mind has finally inoculated itself to him.
And, you know
Neat, I guess
At the end of the day, I had a ton of fun with X-2, and Majora's Mask was not fun at all
This is my measuring stick of quality
Nah, that's fine.
I only wrote that much about X-2 'cuz, like, the discussion prompted academic reasons.
I mean, most people think I'm nuts when I call FFX my favorite game ever. And they're probably right, all things considered.

But man X-2 is not a hill I will follow you on
Heck I even meant my comment as a joke
X-2 > Dynasty Warriors 8 XL > Majora's Mask

I am less enthused about FF 10-2, but it still has a good deal of high points.
I guess incest was pretty common in ye olden times because the pool of royals was so small that everything got intertwined

BttF 2, and to a greater extent 3?

serah sucks, though.
I wouldn't recommend watching the show.
how you doing
Diehard 3.

Trails in the Sky.
Atelier games.
The Ateliers have some off-putting stuff though. Trails is really kinda nothing but great dialogue and good characters, by and large.
(But Rasputin is also in Devil Summoner 3, and equally fabulous if not more so.)
Persona 2 and Shadow Hearts 2 both apply.
You really, REALLY need to play SH1 to fully appreciate 2, but 2 is the better game.
