    What religion is it?

The uh, made up one that exists in the game. I don't think they gave it a name yet.

Though I suspect Ares/Mars makes up the religion of the evil empire.

Also (first five minutes of the game spoiler)
the main guy is like the vessel for the god of war, or something.

He gets all white haired evil and does an animu laugh, and his HP is 666.

    Yep.

That part is pretty dumb, but I was referring to how the enslaved people are forced to tear down their own temple of worship and forced to follow the empire's god. The main character also waxes on about how he has abandoned his faith and is undeserving of his goddesses' love.

It's rather heavy-handed and a touch melodramatic, but we'll see where it goes.

They don't tear it down themselves, but sounds pretty much like:

not sure how that is related to FFX-2 being awful

Don't know what it has to do with X-2 being bad.

X-2 has some really good writing, particularly around faith. That's something I've always found really interesting about fiction; the idea that they can have a definitive answer about gods, the afterlife and so on. A lot of the writing around how despite the fact that Yevon was exposed as a sham, people still follow tradition, is great - Beclem and Wakka bounce off each other really well in this regard. There's also a huge amount of character development around Yuna - when you first go to Guadosalam her voice-over mentions how she's been avoiding the Farplane because she doesn't want confirmation one way or another about Tidus, and there's tonnes of stuff throughout.

The game just has fucking garbage presentation and inexcusable female character design and pandering.

Oh, and Nooj has a disability too, which is cool.

So Trails in the Sky has plenty of cutscenes, but they're all in-engine cutscenes. Just using the animation style of the rest of the game and its combat.

Sure there's plenty of them that are just talking and walking, but there's a tonne that are action sequences, and I've been really impressed with the sort of dynamics they've managed with this sort of engine. They're really quite well done!

There's also stealth missions! With actual sneaking around, and using shadows and avoid light sources!

    This game has everything

They literally copy and paste underwater enemies into "floating" enemies you fight on land.

I know it was made on a budget but man that is lazy.

This is a time honored JRPG tradition of fighting clearly aquatic enemies floating in the air, you could throw a dart at a grid of every JRPG and you'll have an over 50% chance of hitting a game that has this

Speaking of Jurp screams, TtT2's lead sure has a set of pipes on him.

That's to be expected since it uses the original Japanese VAs, but if the story is really 80 hours as advertised I worry for that actor's lungs post-recording.

.hack//G.U. is tied into the original quadrilogy in a number of ways.

    But not in those ways.

Yeah. .Hack/GU was a great series though I'm glad I waited until each dropped down to like 20-30 bucks.

Man...I wish I didn't give my PS2 to my little brother. You guys got me wanting to replay a bunch of old shit.

I ended up buying a small 4:3 lcdtv to play PS2 games on. Primarily eyeing my old copies of .hack//G.U. and the Shadow Hearts games. Of course I don't even give myself enough time to play the new games I want to play, much less play hundreds of hours of games I've already played.

    ZEN DON"T READ!
Actually he's right about all of those except Zelkova, the moon tree kid. And to be fair, there might not actually even BE a person behind that guy.

Endrance is the same person who played the World V1 as Elk. Dude never got over Mia "dying", which the Ida virus (and the powers behind it) took shape as that cat to get to him.

He's right about Haseo as well. Way back in The World beta, so the original anime, Sora was controlled by the four year old person that would grow up to play as Haseo in The World V2. This isn't really important other than giving a reason for why Haseo has the power of Skeith, since he doesn't remember any of his time in the beta version. Though apparently he remembers his time as Sora in one of the novels and gets a new form with wings and Skeiths old weapon from the first series? Whatever the novels are (even more) dumb and mostly untranslated.

Yata was Wiseman, as well as several other PC's across the series. Dude gets around.

And yeah, Piros is Piros from the first set of games.

Or were you just trying to fake him out?

Oh? I remember the original games being pretty miserable (I only played two out of four), so that's not a very high bar to clear. Is .hack/GU good on its own, or only in comparison to .hack/Infection-mutation-whatever?

.hack//GU basically takes the premise of the first quadrilogy and makes them into an actually fun game. It cut out almost all of the grinding, had more variety in the dungeon areas, and it made the combat way more fun.

I have a huge fondness for the original four games as a concept but yeah they don't play exceptionally well

I will always love the field generation being tied to keywords though, what a cool idea
