Man I love HW but there's just a few things that annoy me that could easily be fixed.

    1. I'd like to know how much damage I've taken so far in Adventure Mode maps. You have to assume X amount of hearts, but when you're grabbing some that drop or level then there's no way of telling.
    2. They should really tell you what the max time allowed for A rank, same with total enemy kills/damage.

    3. If you get hit down to B rank then it should prompt you on the screen so you can restart then and there instead of waiting it out.

There are more, I'm sure, but these would be great "quality of life" improvements to the game.

It's less than 15 minutes, 1200 KOs and 4000 damage / 10000 damage on the harder maps (the Death Mountain area of the map). I think the 4000 damage translates to about 10 hearts without any of the defense badges.

I know but that should really be displayed somewhere on the map. Even if they have to update the menu for it.

Yaaay, finally got Darunia's rank 3 weapon. It was still tough, but leveling Darunia to 60 and focusing on capturing the keeps and pretty much ignoring Ganondorf helped. For reason the Manhandla stalks never appeared, but hey, whatever gets me an A rank.

I also beat the rank 3 baton mission on my first try. I still think the baton is kinda crap, but man, that mission was ridiculously easy compared to other rank 3 missions.

Now the only rank 3 weapons I still need are Zant's, the summoning gate and the fairy.

I wish you could just turn off health recovery too, or have some other means of knowing how much damage you've taken on a stage. I always lose track of whether I've avoided damage, or if I got hit and just picked up a recovery heart soon after

Honestly the one thing they need to fix is the damn lock on system. "Oh thanks game, I totally wanted to target the Dodongo halfway across the map and not the Deku Baba that I am 2 seconds from running into but can't see because the camera ALSO loves to dynamically focus on the big bosses."

P.S. - if you ever want to totally break the camera, play Sealed grounds and run up or down the top-most ramp while a big boss is roaming around somewhere. Camera tends to get stuck on the terrain. Happens on some other maps but not as reliably as this damn spot. Sometimes you don't even need a boss up, the camera just decides to derp for no reason

When you use the smithy, you first select a weapon with an empty slot.

Then you select a skill from a second weapon.

The second weapon is destroyed, in order to put that skill in the first weapon's empty slot.

So, anybody else curious as to where on the timeline the new Zelda will fall? I'd enjoy one as the direct descendant of another hero. Like the aftermath of Twilight Princess about 30 years later. Or the events described at the beginning of The Wind Waker, when Ganon came back. Or the world right after the Hero of Time fails in Ocarina of Time.

Hit 'X' on the weapon screen, it lets you mouse over all your skills and tells you about them.

I for the longest time while playing Skyward Sword thought that Groose would become Ganondorf. Especially when Ghirahim made fun of his "stupid hair." (I thought he'd cut it off to Ganondorf's haircut.) He clearly was a strong dude; it just seemed to make sense. Especially since he was so jealous of Link and, more specifically, his relationship with Zelda. Maybe they'll do the events following the establishment of Hyrule at the end of Skyward Sword. Which would be pretty awesome. And old man Groose becomes Ganondorf. Because why not?

It's obvious Groose is the bloodline of the Gerudo.

Just wanted to say, A+ thread title.

Zelda games, this one and the -actual- next LoZ game will likely be the things that make me pick up a Wii U eventually. Seeing you guys talk about a Warriors game I can't play right yet is painful.

The thread title is not a joke, by the way. When the game tells you that a cucco appeared on the map and is doing something or other, always ignore it. It's a waste of time and actually detrimental to getting an A rank (unless you really need some extra kills, but it's just too dangerous to be near cuccos because they do so much damage).

Escorting a baby cucco is generally safe, and has the benefit of not getting a gold cucco angry at you.

It definitely happens in Lana's L3 Spear mission.

Played a map last night and got a crazy 8-Bit Sword drop. I think it was something like 5 stars and had seven(!) slots, three of which were empty. So now I have a 300+ power 8-Bit sword with Materials+, Slots+, Rupees+, Light+, and three different Strength skills. I hate the way these things look, but I think I'll be able to deal with it.

I can't A rank Lana's lvl 3 spear mission. Trying to escort the baby cucco is maddening because even when I clear a path of officers it wants to just hang around and fight grunts instead of advancing to mama cucco. All the while the enemy army is marching towards my base while Volga sucks against Sheik. I'm either going to farm for a 5 star kokori spear or just ignore the cuccos and Volga to get better clear times.

  • TaramoorTaramoor Storyteller Registered User regular
    Mission fails if Volga dies.

I finally cleared it last night, my basic strategy was to run wherever the game told me, and when I was done head back to the upper left corner to take keeps and gradually advance my cause, then after the manhandle sprouts I headed toward Midna.

Manhandla sprouts are the worst. They seem to appear in random keeps, if my experiences with Darunia's L2 mission was any indication.

Yeah, they spawn in three random enemy keeps (although two can sometimes spawn in the same keep, which is convenient) and then they'll just chip away at your health and interrupt your combos whilst you have to run around the map to take them out.

  • BronzeKoopaBronzeKoopa Registered User regular
If you are on maps where a cucco appears and the game says that it's eating to grow bigger, either clear the mission as fast as possible or go hunt that cucco down. Do not let it finish eating! It will take a while but once it's fully grown it will deal massive damage and won't suffer flinching/knockback from anything other than a special attack.

This murder cucco will eventually wander into an area you need to be, or if you continue to ignore the beast it may wander over to your allied warrior that must not flee.

I've never had that happen to me.

The time it takes to kill that cucco is much better spend on completing your objectives so you can finish the mission before the cucco ever becomes a problem.

I was playing with an under leveled character with bad weapons so I couldn't get through my objectives quick enough. I really should just quit maps and switch characters if it takes too long to kill regular officers.

  • ColumnColumn Registered User regular
The only times Cuccos have been an issue for my A ranks were randomly hitting one of the neutral ones that just chill in the keeps, causing a never ending wave of angry birds, and Ruto's level 2 or 3 scale, the one on the Lake Hylia map.

The first situation happens often enough when you're using large AoE moves, but normally my toons had enough damage it wasn't a big deal. Like, Link constantly kills the neutral Cuccos on maps that have them but even when I've got thirty or forty plus of them trying to hit me I'm one shotting them with a charged strong attack it doesn't matter. What map it happened on with one of the characters though got the whole chicken army after me and nearly killed me to the point I ran out of potions to drink since they weren't dining in one or two hits.

The second scenario was worse. On that map the two cuccos fight each other, and my timing on that was perfect/the worst. Plowing through it with an A rank no problem, then heading up the middle of the map in straight line to then head left a bit to get to Zant to end the mission, I get locked in one of the rooms and the two cuccos start going at it, locking me in the room for a solid two or three minutes or so. I've chugged two potions and still taking damage trying to kill one of the things by the time the doors open up destroying my A rank.

It's rare they're an issue, but given how much of an issue they can be whenever it does happen, really skews the risk-reward. You get nothing from them I've seen in game or read about to make fighting them worth it. As mentioned earlier, the only benefit to paying attention to them and not ignoring them completely are the missions where you get the escort baby chick to mama, then you get your own chicken army that isn't the most helpful, but better they attack the red team than the blue team.

  • Emperor_ZEmperor_Z Registered User regular
The only time I've ever had a problem with cucoos is a mission where one just randomly starts following you. Sooner or later, I end up hitting it and get swarmed by high-damage cucoos. They screwed up my damage ranking more than once.

My least favorite map on adventure mode was the "Cucoo Festival" one. It has every type of Cucoo event possible. Some of them multiple times. I'm so glad there was no need to A rank that one to move on.

For the "Cucco is eating" maps, yeah, you should ignore him. 50% of the time he will never even bother you. You're better off taking the risk that he picks dumb keeps to squat in than fighting him. Off chance he claims a keep you need, you prob just need to reset

I was seriously disappointed in the premise of that map. I was expecting it to be Ganondorf vs. The Cuccoo Army, in the most bizarre diversion the King of Evil has ever been forced to endure.

Finally finished Legend Mode. Good grief does this game get repetitive. That second to last mission where I had to defeat Link and Zelda three fucking times? Good God.

Jumped into Adventure Mode. Couldn't bring myself to play past the very first battle. I'm totally burnt out on this game. I'm starting to think Warriors games just aren't my thing. Run around, mash buttons, repeat. It really bugs me that the maps lack a vertical component. Sure there are a few spots with dropoffs, but they really only act as one way gates on an otherwise two dimensional plane.

Anyhoo, I'm putting this game away now. Not sure if I'll ever come back to it. I really need a proper Zelda...

Technically you only have to beat them once; so long as they are both down at the same time you'll win the mission. Just nothing in the level actually tells you that...

But yeah, the Warriors games, and their gameplay, are certainly not for everyone, I'm probably about done with all the enjoyment I can eke from this for now too. But I have Bayonetta to occupy myself with, so it's hardly a big loss.

It's insane and you don't get anything for winning. I guess you only get another reward for finishing ALL of them.

But yeah, only map I ever got a C rank on, and that's with Sheik damage shield cheesing. Only tip I can give is that it's possible to separate the bosses, esp of you can get one to fight Zelda in the middle (usually Dodongo takes the bait). But you blow the time score this way. But in general, run away a lot. Gohma is fast and will keep up, others won't. Argorok too.
