Quote from some asian source I can't remember

So I read this somewhere a long time ago, I had a book about the bushido code that I loaned and was never returned, I also had a book talking about Sun Tzu's art of war that I can't remember. So I've no real way of double checking where this quote comes from. If its familiar, please let me know the source.

I can't really share it in person and not look like a douche if I don't have the source.

The gist of the quote is:

If you want a man to fight, make fighting the key to deciding if he lives or dies, between honor and dishonor, between wealth and poverty, then a man will fight with all he has.

The book of the five rings?

It's probably not the quote specifically, but sounds like it was discussing part of the "Nine Situations" in Chapter 11 of Sun Tzu's Art of War: "Throw your soldiers into positions whence there is no escape, and they will prefer death to flight. If they will face death, there is nothing they may not achieve."

Might at least help your hunt a bit.

Thank you, I think that's closer. My memory might be injecting those other choices, its been at least 5 years.

    Thank you both.
