Mattress recommendation?

Yeah so this a bit bizarre, but I'm in the market for a new mattress since mine is like completely concave in the middle.

I know everyone prefers something different in regards to hardness, etc., but I guess I'm mostly wondering about those TempurPedic mattresses, if they're all they are cracked up to be, or if there are cheaper alternatives or what not.

TempurPedic mattresses have one major flaw from my experience. The mattress itself tends to absorb and retain more heat then others...which can be a major problem. However, I prefer to be colder then warmer when I sleep so YMMV.

I'm not sure where you're located in NY, but the Original Mattress Factory is a good place to shop around the eastern U.S. This is where my wife and I picked up our new mattress when we bought a new house and we were very pleased with both price and product.

Those Visco-elastic foam matress are well and good if you like sleeping on a big nerf brick. You also pay for a 20 inch block of foam, but your mass is only suppourted by about the top 4-5 inches, leaving the rest wasteful. And yes they do retain heat like hell, tehee pun.

Go to American Mattress, ask to lay down on the Ashlynn. It's a pillow top mattress with Serta's answer to Tempur-Pedic (almost exact same experience but it specifically does not retain heat).

I recommend a VERY hard mattress and then softening it up with a down mattress pad.

I have a Tempur-Pedic knockoff. It's the same materials and everything, but it costs like 1/3 as much. The heat retention thing can be a problem if you put your sheets right over the foam. Instead, get a cotton mattress pad. That will give you a little room to breathe.

I like that mattress a lot.

What brand is your knockoff? Do they sell just the pad things that go on top of a mattress as well instead of a whole foam mattress?

I usually try to sleep on my back but sometimes I end up on my sides, and if I do that too much it hurts my shoulders.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Sensus. Look on ebay for "memory foam mattress." Despite what the tempur-pedic people will say, they are mostly all the same.

Thanks I'll check that out. Did you get the support/box spring/foundation or whatever with yours or are you just using what you had?

I was just googling and found this http://www.ebed.com/index.php, their prices seem really good, compared to Tempur-Pedic anyway.
