for a while now I've been trying to find a story that jeff once told about how he and alex used to go to parties at place that was just a slab of asphalt in the middle of nowhere. He also remarked that these parties were the reason why alex used to keep a bat in his car
does anyone know what I'm talking about? I can't remember if I heard it on the bombcast proper, or if I found it while listening to excerpts on youtube
As someone with a background in chemistry and a bit of academic courses in physics and astronomy it is both interesting and sometimes groan worthy what drips through to people with genuine interest but not possessing all the tools to comprehend those parts of science.
At one point Brad or Drew talk about watching a show on cosmology, feeling they understood it at the time and then can't reproduce a single thing about what was explained.
You see that quite often.
I think part of it is that people are really accepting of a good story, and as long as it flows A to B to C to D you keep nodding along, even if the whole of it gets wildly of course or inconsistent, or you didn't really understand what happened at B etcetera.
Movies do this all the time, care is taken that it makes sense scene to scene but the overall plot is often incredibly coincidental, relies on crazy character choices and motivations and almost no one ever notices.
But if you try to explain science, you need to build up that consistency.
And that's built from math, deduction and experiments.
Without the background science become a sort of magic, where crazy cool shit can happen all the time.
And at that point people are really vulnerable to misremembering and misinformation.

I think this was on the bombcast, I would say post Ryan but not terribly recent. Fall / Winter 2013?
I mean it makes sense, I can't remember what it was on but I know he's talked on the past about early game spot/giant bomb video days where he was putting on like a stage persona and got to the point where he wasn't sure who was the real Jeff, him or the persona or something like that.
I wish Jeff and Alex were recording podcasts and videos from when they were in their seemingly batshit insane youth. I just can't imagine current Alex brandishing a bat at someone.
I'm slowly catch up on A Talking 'Cast!?! (slowly because a minute long intro and a minute long outro is ridiculous for a twelve-minute podcast) and it turns out Stuart Wellington of the Flop House shows up in episode 22. So that happened.

Man, you could do a really good presentation about "Abuses of Media" and school shootings if you talk about how the constant coverage mostly just rewards the shooters with exactly what they wanted, attention, and how it turns a real personal tragedy for a small community of people into what amounts to voyeuristic entertainment/a platform for political agendas for the rest of the country. Shame they didn't do that instead.
I feel like I shouldn't laugh as much as I do at all of Scott Aukerman's stupid jokes where he says something really obvious and banal as though it were interesting and insightful
But God help me I laugh every time he says that life is a race to the finish and we're all hoping to come in last

who?
Awww he's Rise
that looks great
He was also on the last episode
They were clearly doing some kind of run-out to the song
I like to assume they were just literally running around in circles for a full 3 minutes
Gotta admit, even if they're just riffing on the name, it's enough to get me to at least look at it.
Matt Walsh's corny grandpa is the absolute best kind of awful character.
I have!
It's super cute, kinda chill game. Worth the 8 bucks, for sure.
tell him he's full of shit
Here's a salon article debunking every possible argument to get you started

They ran out of time and got cut off literally the slide before they got to it and I have never been more relieved
Truly, an embarrassment of riches.
Pftahahahaha
is so damn cool.

Yes, god, please, yes.
Maybe the thing I miss most about Japan is sarcasm/irony being less of a thing and people being more sincere as a result.
But my god it is such a better way to live.

I sincerely enjoy that obama said thanks obama
