The Harlequins have some appropriately trollish special rules between the Laugh of Sorrows, the dark warlord traits and the Death Jester's special rule.

The only thing I still really don't like is the lack of an HQ and how it forces you to take the rather restricted Masque detachment and formations. While those have some interesting special rules, they also really push the Voidweaver and Skyweavers.

There's some rumors now that GW is planning a Horus Heresy starter or at least some older armor marks in plastic.
This seems to all stem from another rumor about MK IX armor being released soon.

While I would love to see increased availability and affordability of Heresy-era armors, I'd really rather they let forgeworld just do their thing which they have been doing very well. Plus I think it's a huge load of crap.

It would be like a license to print money though.

And now we have rumours about an Adeptus Mechanicus codex, a Deathwatch codex, a Genestealer Cult codex, a Horus Heresy box, an Assassins box, Dark Angels, Tzeentch, and Greater Deamons. All of that by very reliable rumour mongers (Harry and Hastings on Warseer).

  • LanlaornLanlaorn Registered User regular
Given the way they've been operating lately though (with many small dataslates/formations/mini-codices) that all seems reasonable, though.

  • Dr_KeenbeanDr_Keenbean Dumb as a butt Planet Express ShipRegistered User regular
    Don't forget plastic Sisters!

Honestly I'm fine with whatever they release. If the rumored plastic Mk IV armor is GW 'dog snout' style I'll stick to resin anyway. All I want is for them to stay the fuck away from HH rules.

Anybody have the Sentinels of Terra codex? If anyone does, is it worth getting for an IF player?

From what I remember, its big thing was change to the bolter part of chapter tactics. Goes to re-roll all hits but only at half range. Dev centurions can be taken as elites. Of the relics, I remember the librarian armor was good b/c I think it gave an extra mastery level and re-roll failed tests.

It's just +1 warp charge, not +1 ML, but yea a warp charge and reroll for 25 points is a great bargain.

All of a sudden, I've had a real hankering to plop down a painted Fists army and play. I think I will spend some of my income tax on an airbrush, because that will help me get this stuff painted. The IG is just too massive to contemplate. The IF army I have is doable and probably a lot sooner. Especially once I get the airbrush. I need to buy maybe two more vehicles and a thunderfire cannon and I should have all i need for my force.

I have to agree on that. Base coating and initial highlighting takes 1/10th the amount of time it used to, and as a result I can do 10 guys per batch now rather than the 5 I used to be able to do all by hand.

Also, for airbrushing yellow, look up a guide or two. Many are, prime white, shade some areas with an umber, and then yellow on top letting some of the brown show through. Yellow and orange are a bitch because of their translucency / brightness.

What I did with my one bike and my terminators was to prime white, airbush on Iyanden Yellow (the old color, came out a sort of mustard color) and then wash with the yellow wash they have now, then block in the new golden yellow color, and glaze with the yellow glaze. It worked pretty well for me. The termies just had a lot of detail that took forever. I also am not happy with my captain model, but FW's new IF captain is the bees knees. I may just get him to be my captain model. The HH character one with the storm shield and power fist.

This coming weekend we are having a farewell APOC game for one of the guys in our group who is getting out of the chAir Force and heading back to North Dakota. They want me to bring out my Great Gargant but the trouble I'm having is that the rules that I have used in the past, a looted Warlord Titan, are two or three editions old. And that really isn't going to cut it.

Any ideas on how to bring it up to speed?

I am, once again, gripped by Indecision's prehensile dick-tentacle.

Do I want my Dark Eldar army to be a mix of Kabalite units with Coven stuff thrown in for brawn, or do I want Harlequin stuff for shenanigans? OR, do I want Coven/Harlequin? It's so hard to decide when I want all of it.

  • Dr_KeenbeanDr_Keenbean Dumb as a butt Planet Express ShipRegistered User regular
Pick the thing that gives you more, weaker models so I can make you pull them off the table in fistfuls.

    AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT.

In other news I emailed forgeworld to ask if they were planning on shipping their marines with 32mm bases now that those are a thing. The short answer was no.

No because <quote from BRB saying to use the bases that came with models>.

It's all good though; Secret weapon has released their first run of 32m resin bases in several themes and Urban Rubble was one of them!

I think the tke lastest Blood Angels bundle came with 25 and 32 mm bases at least according to the product description, so you had a choice which to use. Even GW seems to acknowledge that rebasing your whole army isn't that practical.

Ah crap. My LGS is having a midwinter sale, picked up Shield of Baal for 25% off. Today they posted that select stuff is now 40%, which includes an Adeptus Astartes Strikeforce which would basically be about 150 after tax...I am so conflicted. I think I'm holding off until the last day of the sale (Monday) and if it's still there I might have to just go in on it.

Sweet, while cleaning my apartment I found my first Marine codex.
The one where you can have special rules for making devirgents from a parent chapter.

Lots of pretty pictures and fluff with no unit-specific fluff, just everything thrown into a stat block.

If you were thinking of getting an eldar super heavy, which would you be seriously considering? I most like the warp hunter/lynx but in terms of cost to effectiveness I'm unsure. I guess the safe bet would be to flood the table with hornets and wasp walkers, but I was wanting something visually impressive to set down onto a table.

In the APOC game we played this weekend, Eldar against everybody, there was a lynx on the table and it wrecked face. A pretty solid choice.

An Eldar list using a Lynx was just in the finals at LVO. It's a really solid unit.

I think that the Lynx is also just so Eldar in its concept. Just a huge gun with engines. And it looks fantastic.

  • SkuntySkunty Registered User regular
Regarding Eldar super heavies I think it very much depends on what size games you're playing. The lynx is pretty good, a lovely model and with a scatter laser mount almost as effective as the scorpion. However, having played multiple 10k+ apoc games I'd say if you're lining up opposite rival super heavies of the titan variety (warhound, stompa, lord of skulls) then the 6HPs and AV11 are not going to cut it. The scorpion/cobra clock in at just under 700 pts (IIRC) and are pretty good (although the cobra suffers from having a shorter ranged huge template that can make it awkward to position) but the clear winner is the Revenant, pound for pound those things outshine the super heavy skimmers by some margin, faster, just as resilient to ranged fire, don't fold instantly when assaulted and probably most importantly twice the firepower.

Plus, heavily armed giant robots are just straight up cooler than heavily armed hover tanks. Pretty sure I read that in a book somewhere, so I know it's true.

Whatever you go for, make sure you straighten the weapons properly. I swear 90% of these things I see painted up have floppy dick weapons.

I am looking over my IF list and I want to take fun stuff. I'm just not sure what to take. The more I think about it, the more I may not enjoy taking devastators. Maybe Centurion devs would be more interesting.

Why? Because they can move and shoot? Or because you want to use the super imba grav cannons?

A 5 man IF dev squad with the sgt on a quad-gun can do some serious damage.

  • valhalla130valhalla130 13 Dark Shield Perceives the GodsRegistered User regular
I didn't know grav guns were... imba. Which I assume means imbalanced? They just look cool to me. And when you are referring to a dev squad, are we talking HB's here?
