They're currently going in the $50-60 range on eBay

Someone actually offered to trade me a Shulk for my Rosalina, I'm hoping he doesn't wise up to just how rare Shulk will be and also hope he doesn't want it to use in Xenoblade Chronicles 3D

But if he does then I have no problem selling it and making 400% profit

Wait did the chanting actually say words

It was a clip from a sound library that was a recording of muslim prayer. Nintendo didn't know what it was, they just put in something that sounded ethnic and templey.

There's a pretty good chance amiibos are selling well BECAUSE of the rarity

I think he means in the sense that there's more demand for them than nintendo predicted so they're selling out because there's more people who want to buy them than there is stock to sell

or do you mean something more complicated than that?

I could probably wait a bit to get like King Dedede or Mega Man amiibos

But since I know they don't make very many of them and they'll all be gone after the first day I need to get one IMMEDIATELY which leads to the rush

A not-insignificant reason I own a Rosalina amiibo is because I saw one in a store and knew this would probably the only time I'd ever see one again

Huh, guess I didn't realize they were so limited in nature.

I wonder if its a supply constraint thing? Artificial scarcity? Or what. Think Nintendo would be cranking them out if they were selling so well.
Its retailers not realizing Nintendo is a popular brand outside of video games . They under ordered anything not mario then blamed nintendo for only making what was ordered

If you look back at when amiibo first came out, they weren't really selling that fast. Then when news hit that Marth/Villager/WFT were already discontinued, everyone bought up the ones they could find. Meta Knight was available for pre order at Best Buy for a few weeks, but once people figured out Nintendo wasn't making enough of most of them, sold out.

I personally was going to buy amiibos whenever they were on sale or clearance, but now I know that I can't depend on them showing up at stores. Full retail price is considered a good price.

Hell, I almost bought Villager twice before the panic happened and he started going for 100 bucks on eBay. (he might not be that high still, but he hit it the day or two after discontinued news hit)

I only wanted Kirby/Dedede/MetaKnight and then maybe Wii Fit Trainer because when are they ever gonna make other Wii fit merch?

But now I have most of the Mario characters because I caught the bug.

Megaman is 100% likely never to be restocked though. Sonic and Pacman are iffy as well.

Not being allowed to finish Samurai Jack, that's what he's doing.

There's a comic series running right now that I'm pretty sure is finishing the story.

Yeah, I'm sure plenty of people bought the first three for profit, but there was clearly not enough of them in the slightest bit. I got my Trainer because I have in-laws near a Target in a tourist town. (rich people don't do much gaming, apparently)

I was planning on collecting them all gradually but rarity and the chance of rarity has made me collect them all and preorder everything and wait in line at Toys R Us for a chance at Lucario and buy Pit on eBay for $25 plus shipping.

I reaaaaaaaalllllly doubt that those characters are gone for good

you guys do realize that just because something is out of production, that doesn't mean they will never make more? They don't burn the molds when they're finished. It's more that the facilities that were used to make (figure a) are currently being used to produce (figure c) instead, because that's way way less crazy than just adding more and more production lines. This happens with all sorts of stuff!

like, they've already said they are going to make more marth(s)

unless I am missing something with rights issues, I don't see any reason they would never go back to characters who would definitely still sell, sonic and megaman being among them

  • InquisitorInquisitor Registered User regular
Yeah, you only tend to run into one production run ever type situations with really niche products where they are worried they won't be able to sell enough of the next run.

Which is basically my plight as a wargamer.

    basically, relax

amiibo sales have passed sales of the actual game they were made in conjunction with

if you want to get butt deep in plastic figures that will be possible, even if it's not immediately. Do not buy these things for five times their normal price on ebay.

The worry is that the "more Marths" and anything else they make more of will be shitty cheaper versions instead of the versions they've already released. Similar to how the Mario Party amiibos are shitty compared to their Smash amiibo counterparts.

  • King RiptorKing Riptor Registered User regular
The mario Party Amiibo are better than their smash counterparts though. No crappy stands, the rare variants seem to be recolors not characters and better poses overall

The only problem with this point of view is expecting Nintendo to act logical. I'm a borderline Nintendo apologist and even I know that's not really a thing they do.

Back to Skyward Sword after a long break

I like how it kinda messes with the formula

You get the Bomb Bag, it goes through the whole rigmarole of holding it up and adding it to your inventory

And then reminds you that you were getting it for somebody and you should ask to borrow it from them

And once you do so like 15 seconds later it goes through the whole thing of adding it to your inventory again

amiibos are cheap plastic toys with an nfc chip in them that kids and adults seem to be snapping up

the gamecube adapter has a pretty limited audience and is potentially losing them sales for their shiny new controllers

I don't think those are the same situation

    They're startegy game characters

Why is it so weird that you can use them in another strategy game made by the same people who make their games
