Reading an excerpt from Jon Ronson's next book "So You've Been Publicly Shamed", in which he interviews a bunch of people, like Justine Sacco, who've been pilloried and fired after social media storms. It's pretty interesting. Here.

Neither the person making the dumb joke about dongles nor the person who tweeted her disapproval profited, with the former being fired two days after the incident and the latter being fired after MRA types launched DDoS attacks on her company and said they'd only stop when she was fired.

It's convenient for me as a mod of a curated forum to say this, but I have no interest in conversation with absolutely everyone on the internet; 'a bid for the attention of strangers" is a good way to put it. And beyond the public shaming, the idea that at any point a stranger on the internet can just at me with vile insults and/or demands that I engage them in conversation is insanity; I have no idea how semi-famous people live with it.

On February 14th, Kakumei-teki himote doumei — literally, “Revolutionary Alliance of Men That Woman Are Not Attracted To”– will gather in Shibuya, an area of Tokyo popular with young couples, to protest Valentine’s Day and its roots in what they call “romantic capitalist oppression.”

For example, one frequent target of the group’s admonitions are the so-called “riyajuu”, a neologism frequently used in online communities such as 2chan to refer to those who experience fulfillment in their offline lives (riyajuu is a portmanteau that combines “real” with “jyuujitsu”, the Japanese word for fulfillment).

The release posted on Kakuhidou’s website for this year’s anti-Valentines parade says “the blood-soaked conspiracy of Valentine’s Day, driven by the oppressive chocolate capitalists, has arrived once again. In order to create a brighter future, we call for solidarity among our unloved comrades, so that we may demonstrate in resolute opposition to Valentine’s Day and the romantic industrial complex.”

At previous events, leaders of the group have yelled slogans such as “I hope all riyajuus explode! But we’re still a little jealous!” while wearing shirts that say, roughly, “sex is useless.”

I'm not dieing or anything. Not even in large amounts of pain. But complications during dental surgery, followed by antibiotics not fully doing their job, my gallbladder throwing an enormous fit, my liver throwing a fit due to my gallbladder throwing a fit which lead to a lot of bloodtests, a mystery spot on my nose appearing during all of this...

(also, great job with picking out the colors of the notes. Because this picture was what I thought of immediately, same color scheme)

EDIT: Wait, it's an av, right? Then nevermind it's perfect. The cyans and purples of the notes blending with the vanilla's blue will look p good

I love that they seethe with resentment at the very existence of people who find fulfillment in 'their offline lives' to the extent that they have a name for them.

Very first question in RPS interview with Peter Molyneux that ends with him saying it's his last ever interview.
RPS: Do you think that you’re a pathological liar?

Peter Molyneux has admitted regret and culpability; he was clearly in distress throughout the interview – an interview he told us would will be his last. An hour before publication, however, we discovered that he had spoken to the gaming news site Rock, Paper, Shotgun the day before, and had given their interviewer the same impression – that he would no longer be speaking to the press. He has also spoken to at least one other site, seemingly on the same afternoon as our discussion.

Sounds like he's giving the same interview over and over, which kind of means that each of them is his last. It's the same one and it's the last different one he'll give.

Interesting article, though I have to say my sympathy is rather limited for anyone who summons an internet hate mob on a co-worker and then succumbs to a backlash internet hate mob.

It's almost as if intentionally seeking outside, anonymous, non-accountable legions of people to resolve your workplace disputes for you is a terrible idea.

    Seriously this muscle though

    Last night:
-30 seconds of squatting, 30 seconds of holding a squat position, 4 rounds no break
-heavy front squat 4 reps, 6 rounds
    -heavy push press 4x6
-thrusters (basically a squat + a push press) 4 reps then 3 walkouts (touch your toes, walk your hands out until you're in a plank and then farther until you're very extended, then walk back in) x5

    Brodin hear my prayers, wheymen
