What is Monster Hunter?

Welcome to the game where in the goal is to kill off these guys with some form of pointy or shooty implement.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_ZAQ9_QK5s&noredirect=1

Monster Hunter is a series about hunting little things, making weapons and armour from the bits of the little things then eventually using those weapons and armour to hunt bigger things. Repeat until the next game in the series comes out.

sHWV2Wm.jpg

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the next version of the game. It will be released to western audiences on February 13th, 2015. There are all new areas (and a return of the great dessert), 2 new weapons, un-level terrain to do jump attacks off of, a randomized offline area that goes up to G-rank to free hunt in and much much more that I'll add later.

Oh and there's mounting. Please take a moment to watch this for mounting etiquette:

Cross region play is in from the beginning but voice chat is not so we're going 3rd party for that.

To be fair I have no idea why Adamant seeds are good against Akantor, I just beat the shit out of it because the only threat it has is that its footsteps hit about as hard as other monster's charges. Even his death beam is super predictable and just lets you beat the shit out of him.

I didn't know until I was reading about it on a wiki. Basically it nullifies a half defense debuff.

I suspect it's the reason behind a lot of the carts for the Zelda weapon DLC. Suddenly taking close to 2x more damage than you were expecting can do that.

I just added myself to the form, and I'll go through in a bit to add people, but my FC is 0963-0539-4405 if anyone wants to add me. Just make sure to @ me so I can add you back. I'm up to HR4 now, almost exclusively from solo play, but playing with my buddy a few days ago was quite a bit of fun (although to be fair, I was running him through some HR1 stuff that was a bit of a breeze with a high rank weapon and armor).

On a separate note, fuck pink rathian. I did abysmally my first try with my hammer, I'll have to go back in and try out the IG to see if it goes any better. Plus it was my first try against the pink variant. But I want to keep unlocking stuff in caravan, so it needs to go down somehow.

I can't get on, but Dah'ren's super easy to solo. It's really just a mechanics fight where you have to know when to fire the dragonator and maybe pause him with the wire-shot or the gong once or twice.

Shoot all the balistaes you can get at front horn to break it. once shots are done, use cannon balls and jump on back to mine and break fin (can break twice to go on top of head)

use binder or gong whenever he is going to ram boat

use nator at apex of second dive when he does he front attack. Do it early. You can do enough dps in all 3 ranks of fight that will skip the nator front charge

during ground fight, constantly attack front legs to trip. Do not attack too early on feet, especially if you out dps'd the nator as it an kill jhen out of bounds and then no carves

once dead, run to head and crouch carve 4 times, then work down body until you hit second carve spot for another 4

This almost happened to a PUG and I one time. I noticed it was so far back I couldn't even hit the thing's legs, so I fell back to the middle of the map and signaled (LET US CHAT, CAPCOM). Fortunately he got the message and we spent like five minutes just gesturing at him waiting for him to crawl his lardass back in bounds.

Got my upgraded Gore duals. I'm not sure the're worth picking over the Dios, but I have to get Rathalos Carapaces to upgrade the Dios, and those apparently require a shitload of subquests to unlock. Or Caravan 8... and a bunch of subquests. Ow.

Is Rathalos available as a guild quest mob? That would make life a lot easier.

My current armor is Tetsucabra S, upgraded it gives me Defense M, Sharpener +1, and Health +50. 300 Defense, too.

So the HR7 Mohran fight is pretty serious business solo. Even with artillery god and landing every gong and binder, running cannon ammo dry and landing about 50 ballista shots he still got the ship down to 30% showdown and proceeded to wreck the ship because the gong and binder don't recharge fast enough.

    Sad days.

So, now that I have a nice Hearing +5/Wide Range +11/1 slot charm, I've come up with a new set for Hunting Horn/Support, mostly as a Wide-Range healer. I typically run without evade skills, and I like having HG Earplugs and Capture Guru on my sets. There are actually multiple sets that have this set of skills:
    Speed Eating+2
    Horn Maestro
    HG Earplugs
    Wide-Range+2
    Capture Guru
    3 Open Slots

The Seregios Hunting Horn has 2 slots, which gives me 5 slots for Mycology (or other utility skill like Speed Sharpener). It lacks any attack skills, but I plan on only using it for High Rank or Low Rank hunts as pure support.

    One combination is:
Excello Helm Z or Tigrex Cap Z or Gobul Helm X
    Tigrex Mail Z
    Tigrex Vambraces Z
    Torso Inc Waist
    Qurupeco Greaves X
Hearing +5/Wide Range +11/1 slot charm

I like the idea of a Horn user with HG Earplugs... somehow, you don't really hear your own music, but on the plus side, no monster is going to interrupt your performance with a roar. :D

That's not an actual thing, right? HG Earplugs doesn't make you immune to HH songs does it?

In a similar vein, if you have the Sleep armor skill can you still rest in the camp bed? I know the Feyline Insomniac food skill prevents that.

Fire Resistance, don't get one-shot-killed by the sweep beam (he can do it twice, so watch out for that). That's 90% of the deaths to him, right there.

The Life proc is nearly worthless for G-rank hunts. If I get hit, it is shaving 50 to 75% of my health (even with 700+ armor), and I'm NOT going to be diving back into combat to try to get it to proc. I'm going to stop and heal to full so I don't cart.

On the other hand, it makes you nearly immortal in High Rank and Low Rank quests. :D I have a trash Rank 9 Longsword that I use with the Life proc, and I never have to use a potion.

A GS L3 charge with Life Hone will heal over half your health bar. Gaijin Hunter likes it on Hunting Horn because the idea is you never really want to sheathe that and I guess it heals small hits like monster turning around on you which is also good if you have the skill that increases stats at max health.
