    Gonna confront Raedric soon

Though as I remember last time the resolution was just “slaughter these assholes or slaughter these other assholes”, and I don’t remember there being any proper way to convince one side to just give in

Not that either side is is any good, granted

you can also choose to kill all parties involved

    Naaaah.

Also re the pirate at the beginning of Deadfire:
Man I really wish you could have stolen his ship instead of killing him. That would have been way more hilarious.

Spoilers for Raedric for the whole game
Well, considering he comes back as sort of a lich and kills the other guy anyway it's kind of a moot point

I am trying to power through PoE 1

and I have decided that I am not going to do the endless paths because fuck a 15-level combat slog

I've maybe finished the Endless Paths once? And that's after like three or four playthroughs. It's not really worth it.

Raedric would do a lot less harm if he's dead; just sayin'.

I stumbled upon a boss that I think I’m supposed to tackle once I have a few more levels under my belt, but figured I’d give it a shot. It ended up being a gruelling battle that ended with just my PC standing. I rested and continued on my way. I quickly found myself in a losing fight, but I figured I could handle it if I just managed my party a little better (Aloth somehow found himself way behind enemy lines...) and loaded my last save. Imagine my surprise when it loaded my save right before the big boss fight.

Would it not make sense for the game to auto save when you rest? I feel like that would make sense... :x

PoE really benefits from committing to the character you're roleplaying

    Ship combat question:

I'm trying to make my ship be all about boarding, because boarding is cool. How do I fucking keep my captain alive? I made my captain a Cipher but for whatever reason it puts me in the front and at the beginning of every boarding fight I get shot by 10+ pistols and just die. It's really quite frustrating. Do I just have to put full plate on my Watcher?

probably shoulda' went to story mode because some of those larger boss fights are some fucking bullshit

    Gotcha.

I finally have a full party of non-created characters!

... I may ditch Durance though. He’s a little intense.

  • ShortyShorty touching the meat Intergalactic Cool CourtRegistered User regular
I only used durance during my initial half-playthrough, three years ago, but yeah I remember him being A Lot

If it's your first time through, it's super worth it it keep him around for his story

  • AnzekayAnzekay Registered User regular
Durance is pretty intense, but after a while his stuff comes in less frequent bursts. I didn't use him the first time I played the game, but did during my PotD run and not only were his Cleric powers super useful, but his story ends up being extremely fascinating and very tied into some of the major story points.

  • DoobhDoobh She/Her, Ace Pan/Bisexual 8-) What's up, bootlickers?Registered User regular
Durance is fucking difficult to handle for the whole game, but his personal story can also be pretty dang satisfying

Durance's backstory was enough to make me continue using him for most of the game and having a guy on who hates everybody can lead to interesting comments.

  • AnzekayAnzekay Registered User regular
Yeah sometimes it's kinda interesting to have a character who is just a real big jerk around

that Durance's story is woven into some of the pretty big parts of the game/setting make his presence a lot more fascinating

Eder and Hiravias in the party means casual racism from Eder.
Edér : "Been a pleasant surprise traveling with you, Hiravias."
Hiravias : "Nice of you to say that. I was on the road alone for years and I'm happy to have company for a change."
Edér : "My part of the country has a saying about orlans, 'Face of skin, let them in. Face of hair, best beware.' But you're more like a skin-faced orlan."
Hiravias : "Are you fucking kidding me? Well MY tribe has a saying, 'Head of brunette, they're all set. Head of blond, says everything wrong.'"
Edér : "Was that bad? I meant it like a compliment."

Edér : "Hey I'm sorry about what I said before. About the, uh, the skin-faced orlans."
Hiravias : "It's all right. I knew what you were trying to say and that's why I didn't gut you."
Edér : "I didn't know I was saying something bad."
Hiravias : "I get it, I get it - let's just put it behind us."
Edér : "Now that we're friends again is it okay if I pet you?"
Hiravias : "What? NO! Damn it, Edér! Is your family tree just one looping square?!""

  • AnzekayAnzekay Registered User regular
I love Eder but I am glad he gets called out on that on several occasions. I like to think he gets better, travelling around with you.

I've got this weird thing where I don't think I actually want to romance anyone in Deadfire?

Well, none of my party members, at least. I've been flirting real hard with that one pirate queen.

    Potential spoilers:
So far Tekehu, Xoti, Serafen, and Maia have made a pass at me.

I turned Tekehu down because I don't really like him that much, Xoti I tried to push towards Eder instead (she hits on you while also talking about how much she likes Eder, which like, I respect that game, but dang), Serafen I just kind of laughed off, and I started the Maia romance path but I think I'm going to drop it because her imperialism is very not my bag.

I made a pass at Pallegina and she politely turned me down, which I'm not surprised by (I was partially doing it just to see what would happen).

I might go back and flirt with Xoti again now, I guess - after I finished her personal quest she went from sweet and naive priest to serious worshiper of a death god which is much more to my character's taste.
