    Background
Born in Jersey City, now a denizen of New York City as of late after her father pursued a more lucrative job to move the entire family over the Hudson River. Kamala Khan finds herself a stranger in a familiar land, new school, new home, new faces around her. Still she made the best of a situation. Then the Chitauri came to Manhattan, to be sure Queens was spared the impact of their arrival but New York City became a little more weirder. But still, Kamala made the best of a situation. Why couldn't she? She saw the same television that everyone else saw. Titanic alien dragons repelled by the efforts of a flippy ninja woman, flying metal man, a green hulk, an legend from the old comic books, a man blond of hair and a hammer of lightning, and a man with bow and arrow. As Kamala watched the news, she was enthralled by what she saw. Heroes larger than life, free to defy natural law. Kamala wanted to be like them.

However, reality was not so inclined to so easily grant the wishes of one girl no matter how fervently she hoped. So instead, Kamala focused devouring everything she could on these heroes and any others lurking in the shadows. Kamala learned their names and learned more about their exploits. She heard rumors of a guardian prowling through Hell's Kitchen, a brightly colored anarchist bedeviling the police in Queens, and countless other drips and drabbles of the vaguest information. So for a time, she was satisfied...but the world had other plans for her.

Kamala wasn't sure what had happened that night, things had came to a head too quickly for her to remember except in the most distant of fragmentary thoughts. There was a fog in the neighborhood thicker than any she could remember followed by the strangest dream. A woman clad in blue and red with a starburst on her chest chastised Kamala for her willful ways and disobedience to her parents. She asked Kamala just what exactly she wanted to do with her life and Kamala had an answer. "To be like her and all the other heroes." With that Kamala was awoken from her slumber and her status as a mere mortal.

Now Kamala is like the heroes she idolizes so much. Now, Kamala is ready to go out and fight the good fight and try not to be caught out too late by her father and mother.

Ok, so I'm going to keep this one game. Right now we have:

@Mikey CTS as Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), the teen archer and former youth SHIELD Agent.
@OptimusZed as Salvador Cardenas (Chimera), the Half-Skrull Beastly Shapeshifter.
@Ken O as Li Wei Smith (Majestic Orb Spider), the once captured by Hydra Living Weapon martial artist from the City of Spiders.
@dresdenphile as Tabitha Smith (BOOM-BOOM), the pyromaniac social girl with an equally explosive personality.
@Captain Carrot as Zoe Carter, daughter of a SHIELD agent with strange alien bruises.
@Kirindal as Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Hero Worshiper turned Inhuman.
@jdarksun as Dale Murphy (Ghost-in-the-Machine) Ghostlok spy recently saved by SHIELD.

That's 7 players, which is a lot for Pbp but it's due able. Quick Questions for people before we start.

@jdarksun what is Dale's current living conditions? With his cyber modification, it would be hard for him to go to school.

EDIT: I could have it where the SHIELD Families all live in the same building. Which would make it easier for those connections.

@dresdenphile I need some background for her. Home, school, ect. How did she get her pyro-Gauntlets? What makes her want to be a hero? If you want, we could make her an Inhuman and tie her in with Kamala's story of the weird fog giving her powers. Maybe Tabitha was out in the fog that night?

I figure the implants embarrass the shit out of Dale. They're reminders of a fuckup that literally cost him an arm and a leg. So he probably lurks about out of sight, plays a lot of online games, takes classes online, that sort of thing.

So I figure he's living in somebody's basement, either literally or metaphorically. Probably on a SHIELD base or temporary housing.

I'm definitely pro-everyone living in the same housing complex. I also figure those of us closer to SHIELD proper, like Zoe, are being gently encouraged to hang out with the other budding heroes, make sure nobody gets isolated, particularly since not everyone's in a particularly stable situation.

I was liking the idea of Kate thinking she could go it alone, which isn't true anyway since she'd be living on daddy's trust fund, slowly realizing she can accomplish more with a partner or even a team. But if living together works out better for you then that's cool. I can do a minor rewrite and find a different angle. No biggie.

    @Grunt's Ghosts: how about this?

    Background:
Tabitha Smith was the daughter of a rank-and-file HYDRA agent. While not mandatory, agents were "encouraged" to bring their children in for "booster shots"; in reality, a chemical cocktail intended to replicate the Super Soldier serum. While most of the test subjects had no response to the formula, her father thought his ship had come in when HYDRA's experiments finally succeeded on Tabitha, giving her the ability to create explosive "time bombs." Unfortunately, for him, HYDRA fell apart shortly thereafter, and Tabitha was taken into SHIELD's protective custody. While not thrilled about the chafing rules of SHIELD, Tabitha does want to help the organization not only to help her fellow man, but also to help right HYDRA's (and her father's) wrongs.

    Personality:
Tabitha's a free spirit with an optimistic outlook mixed with self-destructive tendencies. She views the world as a place needing to "lighten up", and she's just the prankster to lead the way, which is no doubt part of her efforts to disassociate herself from her own difficult childhood. But with this devil-may-care attitude, she doesn't give a thought about the consequences of her actions, nor the little wake of destruction she tends to leave behind. Tabitha seems to act upon things rather than think them through first. She's not much of a rule follower, nor does she take commands from others lightly. While Tabitha's not malicious, the lack of discipline and mischievousness made her a troublesome guest for anyone willing to take her in. Loud and not afraid to say what’s on her mind, Boom Boom is all about having fun.

I'll switch out Gear for Exhausted for her Limit, if that works.

That works. Ok, so for the "SHIELD Kids" you guys live in a brownstone apartment building that's been in SHIELDs hands since it was the SSR. The rest live in the neighborhood. I'll post the openjng in the morning when I get off work (if I don't get dragged down by RL) and will begin.

    Young Avengers: The Rising Tide
    Doom Pool: 2d8

Thomas Kane came in through their headsets. "Ok, listen up, people. These guys are black market smugglers, a bit of a step up from the car thieves you've been dealing with. But it's possible they have alien tech for sell, so we can't let them get away. Secure the tech and come back in one piece."

The Young Avengers were at the docks, hiding between two warehouses. Across the street was a Dimly Lit Warehouse guarded by a few tough guys. The back bay door was open and a Delivery Van blocked most of their view inside. Moments later a Black SUV arrived, and three more armed guys in suits joined the tough guys while a business man and his large bodyguard stepped out of the back.

"Mission is a go." Thomas said.

All OOC talk must be in color. Don't matter what, but something to split it from IC talk. The bold words "Dimly Lit Warehouse", "Delivery Van", and "Black SUV" are all Scene Distinctions. You can use them in place of one of your own or spend a PP to add it as a D8/D4 to your pool. If it's a d4, it must be used negatively towards your character (Like if you were in a room of fire, a D4 "Burning Room" should be hindering you in your narrative. If not, it's a D8 and you don't get your PP back. Everyone starts with 1PP which can be spent to add stuff to your dice pool. When you post, try to start off with your character's name and how many PP he has so I don't have to keep track of it.

Everyone is here (I just assumed to you guys have worked together for a short time now and this is your first big mission.) The people on the field are "Tough Guys" 8d8 (which means there are 8 of them. Doing d8 or more damage takes out one of them and lowers their dice.), "Armed Guy" 3d10, "Business Man", and "Bodyguard".

The Majestic Orb Spider (1PP) flinched at Thomas' voice, he still wasn't used to the ear piece. His eyes were locked across the street though, sizing up the different men to determine who was the biggest threat. Without turning to look at the others he whispers, "Do we have a plan?"

    Hawkeye

Kate blew a bubble then smacked her gum.

"Kick ass. Don't let 'em get away with the tech," Kate said matter-of-factly.

Lightning quick Kate notches an arrow as she darts down the alleyway. She lets the arrow lose, embedding in the pavement at the feet of the new arrivals. They look down at the shaft then look up just quick enough to see Kate dip behind a few crates in the alleyway. Before they can raise their guns to fire, she grins to herself as she presses the button on the grip of her bow. KA-BOOOOM! The arrow blows sending them each flying and alerting anyone else inside that there were uninvited guests to the party.

@Grunt's Ghosts What's in the vans? I'm looking to narrate a bit to give the rest of the team confidence (or not!) to open fire.

  • Grunt's GhostsGrunt's Ghosts Registered User regular
@jdarksun The vans are normal vans, not even armored. In the back there is a few metal crates with electronic locks. They might take small gun fire but anything large will pierce them. One of them is much larger then the rest, about 10 feet long by 4 feet wide. It's outside the van on the ground. There is a electric hum coming from it, like a cooling system or something is on inside.

  • jdarksunjdarksun Struggler CORegistered User regular
Ghost-in-the-Machine's voice echoed over the comms, Dale's normally uncertain voice backed with a mechanical certainty. "Four crates, three small one large. Unarmored. Use caution if we want to retrieve the items undamaged. Hostiles tagged, relaying positioning information now."

The Bodyguard points at three of the Tough Guys to move around the building to flush her out. The Bodyguard opens the SUV's door give him some cover.

    Boom-Boom (1PP)

Before Dale shimmers away, Tabitha hisses, "Hey! 'Waiting before launching explosives' is like, literally, the hardest thing for me to do!"

Boom-Boom sees the group of tough guys start to split up, so she swirls her hands, conjuring a half dozen golf ball-sized spheres of white hot energy in her palm. With her other hand, she flicks the air behind them, and the tiny white lights go screaming towards the larger group of tough guys.

She lookes back at her teammates. "Just remember: if we have to scroll up on the history of this mission, I wasn't the first to blow stuff up."

Ok, @dresdenphile, your dice are everywhere. You say you are rolling 4d6 area attack on Tough Guys, then rolled 7d6, and Tough Guys are 5d8. I can say that the ones don't count (since they really don't except for PP/Opportunities), which will set things right. And I can still buy that d10 1s for a PP, if you want to sell it to me (which will increase the Doom Pool by d10.)

Tough Guys 5d8, Combat Expert d8

So that's 14 reaction roll, which means that 3 Tough Guys are down, two have taken d6 damage. So any hit will take them out.

The little balls of light explode right next to the group of Tough Guys whose attention was on Hawkeye. Three of the men go down while two of them slowly pick themselves off the ground. "Sir! Wow, I really messed that up. Sorry about all that. I had all of that stuff written up before I saw that the group split into 2, so I accidentally rolled based on my (erroneous) numbers. It should have been 1d8 Affiliation, 1d8 Distinction,1d10 Power, 1d8 Specialty, 1d10 Asset, and then 4d6 for my Area Attack SFX against the larger group of Tough Guys.

With the sounds of Tabitha's fusillade still echoing in the alley way, a large, odd shape emerges from the darkness on the other side of the SUV. Nearly 6 feet tall at the shoulder, and standing on four legs that look like something out of a Chinese knock-off of Jurassic Park, the huge, crimson-striped beast bellows once, spraying what must be some kind of mucus into the air to mix with the dust the various explosions have kicked up. It's odd, triangular head tilts to one side to better train a single, purple eye on the vehicle.

Suddenly, the beast's skull seems to expand, with a bulbous shape forming on the top of it's head. The growth expands into a set of bizarre antlers, wider than the SUV and nearly 4 feet from front to back. Snorting, the creature drops it's head and gathers itself in a fashion that would be instantly familiar to anyone who has ever seen Wild America.

Since I'm effectively on my own over here and not really coordinating with the team as such, I think that leaves me rolling Solo d8, Monster of Manhattan d8, Shapeshifting d10 , and a d6 from my Battle Form SFX to create a set of horns big enough to push that car around and the proper musculature to wield them.

Dale's move was appreciated, but the bad guys had moved since he reported. An update would be nice -- and this way, Zoe didn't have to hurt anyone yet. She scampered over to the warehouse, with its nice rugged walls, and started clambering up. There were plenty of handholds, and she didn't have too much weight to worry about on her end, so it only took a few seconds to reach the roof and get a nice bird's eye view of the whole arena.

    Kamala

Explosions going off left and right... "I thought we were trying harder this time not to blow up the entire neighborhood." Kamala peered around a tall stack of wooden at the growing chaos. She noticed Zoe clambering up the warehouse wall. "Hey, wait for me!" It was an easy matter to follow Zoe's lead, a bit weird but easy as her fingers started oozing a bit into the walls to get a better grip and Kamala stretched her limbs to sling herself up the wall in a few quick pulls.

She kept low and dashed across the warehouse roof looking for an open skylight. Dimly lit warehouses like these always had one in the comics, so why not this one? Or not... It was a fruitless task as all the skylights were firmly shut. Well, you could always make your own...like the Hulk going wherever he wants. Kamala snickered as she pictured him in her mind and began to swell up and grow into a titanic version of herself. "Justice!" She shouted as she jumped up and cannonballed through the skylight...hoping that there was some goon down below to land on.
