I like all three Dead Risings

3 is probably the best, mainly just because of the whole weapon locker idea

Yeah, gameplay wise it's pretty great. Lots of quality fixes yet still somehow keeping the one system people hate the most, the time limit.

    Content wise..... BLEAH

3 definitely has some heinous stuff, but so did 1 and possibly 2? I never got too far in 2

For example, the fat rapist lady cop in Dead Rising 1

I was skeptical of the nemesis system prerelease but it really clicked for me once I ended up playing it

rip that one guy who kept coming back increasingly scarred and bandaged, even after I cut his head off

It was even more hilarious when the dude who kept coming back was weak to arrows. So he'd die instantly and then half an hour later he's returned...still with the arrow weakness.

And then you get a dude who is immune to melee, arrows, and sneak attacks and shit gets real

I'm halfway through Shadows of Mordor now, and I really like how I can be in middle of doing something really important when that one guy turns up out of the blue and he's really upset that I pushed him off a cliff that one time

I'm playing through Sunset Overdrive right now, and it's pretty nuts. The story stuff is nonsensical, but they nailed it with the actual gameplay.

Best way I can describe it is someone took Saints Row, Dead Rising, and Tony Hawk, mashed them all together and came up with this.

  • Mr. GMr. G Registered User regular
Yeah I don't care about the story or the characters in Sunset Overdrive even a little bit

    Also it's not funny

Still a ton of fun though

I had one where I misread his profile as he fears those dog things.

Turned out that was his literal berserk button.

If Sunset Overdrive had a day-night cycle and weather DLC, I would be all over that. I want to grind around the city at sunset, dawn, night, in wind and rain. Maybe it could snow.

So a cursory check indicates that Criterion are working on some mystery new IP, hmm.

Hopefully Burnout Paradise gets added to the XBONE backwards compatible list.

Bit troubling that they showed none of that this year. Especially since EA had virtually nothing to talk about other than Battlefront.

Did they talk about other things?

I just heard "open-world Mirror's Edge" and everything went black for about 90 minutes

they didn't show it because it wasn't ready to be shown

it was clearly something they had just started like two months ago in 2014

Wasteland 2 is a little too hardcore for me. The last time I got that vibe was Temple of Elemental Evil.

I liked it a lot, although it's only an open world game in the sense that you can go out into the world, but there's no real reason to.

LA Noire was kind of the same way, except there was collectable bullshit out in the world that you otherwise had no reason to wander around in.

I think there were collectable playboys in Mafia 2, but I always just kinda felt like a dirtbag looking at that kinda stuff in a game so I never bothered.

Yeah. It's a gorgeous world, though. Just weirdly empty. Mafia III seems to have learned from that and added a fuckton of side content, so that's cool. I'm pretty stoked for Mad Max, the gameplay trailers look really good.

Yeah, Mafia 2 did feel pretty well-realized with. I probably would've done a lot of the side stuff in that setting if there had, well, been any.

They could've done so much, too. Drive bys with tommy guns, hits, gang hideout takeovers.

Great story, great atmosphere, but a tacked on openworld is worse to me then just having levels.

    I love open world games

Far cry 4 is my jam

I want fallout 4 to be good on ps4
I also want it to have a bow and arrows

  • CaptainNemoCaptainNemo Registered User regular
I was kinda disappointed by Far Cry 4. It was a smoother ride then 3, but had a really non-existent protagonist. Like, Jason was a schmuck, but he had a character arc and a purpose. Ajay is just kind of... There.

I remember a LotR game where you could wander around and chat with people. It wasn't really "open world", it was just a large playable area.

I don't remember anything offensive about Dead Rising 2, Off the record. Although the bonus boss was a little pathetic.

The camera game was damn fun though, SELFIE!

was dead rising's sense of humor always as bad as dead rising 3

I remember it being better but also I was much younger

I watched a mate play some Dead Rising (I can't remember which exact game) and jamming a shower head in someone's skull and having blood spray out of the shower head always tickled my funnybone for some (likely psychotic?) reason.

  • BalefuegoBalefuego Registered User regular
Dead Rising 1 had a lot of really genuinely funny stuff with some unfortunate stuff mixed in.

Dead Rising 2 actually seemed a lot better about it, but it's been so long since I've played it that I may just have forgotten.

I have not played 3 but from what I heard it definitely seems to be the worst in that regard. (But then again that DLC seemed genuinely really funny, so maybe it's always just been a mixed bag)

The combo weapons and killing zombies are always goofy fun. I don't think anything there is real bad. The psychos on the other hand...
