I also meant to mention that Krampus has no less than three calvin and Hobbes references
How so?
The sign that krampus is coming is an army of deformed snowmen, Max is accused of a 'noodle incident' that is never explained and like 3 separate names are from the strip
i don't think it was good but i didn't see what there was about it that inspired the level of vitriol i've seen some people sling at it
I think that's at least partially because it was the cliche "No, [Villain] was really sympathetic and had a tragic backstory" nonsense applied to the villain who needed it least. Maleficent isn't a tragic hero.
Maleficent is someone who decided to murder a baby over not getting a shower invite, and then laughed about it. She's Aaron from Titus Andronicus, full on "Oft have I digg'd up dead men from their graves, and set them upright at their dear friends' doors, even when their sorrows almost were forgot; and on their skins, as on the bark of trees, have with my knife carved in Roman letters, 'Let not your sorrow die, though I am dead.'" but the film replaces it with "No, she's just misunderstood and this is the REAL story."
It's boring and pretty much one of the default templates for "Reimagining" these days, so if someone liked the old school setup, I can see why it would irk them so much.
I mean I agree with all that
But even so I didn't find it awful enough to get angry about

It was just sorta mediocre and forgettable
I don't remember there being a particular fury around that film.

I think someone explained it as an old medieval custom in which it was a massive show of disrespect if you were a person of stature and were not invited, made more so by the fact that the other fairies were invited and only Maleficent excluded.
They had one job to do, and they monumentally screw it up on the last day, and instead of owning up to it they put the entire kingdom to sleep for a century.
Hope none of those people had out-of-town friends or relatives.
Maleficient was weird because it ends with "and that's why they call me sleeping beauty", and, it's like, that was all of 20 minutes, like seriously. That's hardly your most defining feature.
okay but what if sleepy beauty never woke up until the modern day and then she lost her memory and became a regular high school student until the fairies reminded her and gave her magic powers and also she's me
I tried to watch that female Zatoichi film back in 2008 but couldn't make it past the 30 minute mark. Never bothered with the 2010 version either but did see the climactic fight on YouTube before it was pulled and liked it quite a bit.
TD: Okay, then: two memories. One is that my scenes were mostly with Leslie Nielsen, who—and you can Google him and see him doing this on talk shows—went through a phase where he had a handheld bellows-like thing that was a fart-noise maker.
AVC: Oh, yes. I am familiar.
TD: He was relentless! Most people would do something like that, get a few laughs, and put it away. He… would not. We literally got asked to get off an airplane because we were in first class, and when we sat down, he was on one side of the aisle and I was on the other side, and every third person who would walk by, he would do his fart machine. [Laughs.] Restaurants would ask us to leave. He was relentlessly in love with his machine, with no sense of shame.

That was my go to death impression for like 5 years after seeing that movie as a kid.

The fact that that is the best version on youtube is a fucking travesty.
I don't know how you can hate any movie with Donald Sutherland, Rutger Hauer, Paul Reubens, and Kristy Swanson.

Interested, but the mournful remixing of classic rock for trailer purposes needs to be curbed.
I didn't see Funny People or This Is 40 and ohhhhhh this is what people talk about when they say Apatow's movies are way too goddamned long now
This is a good 2 hour movie that would've been a great 90 minutes
