I think the idea is when we chuckleheads are in the podcast thread, we're a little more on point, if for no other reason than we have more then Giant Bomb to talk about, so there's more things that can interrupt insane tangents.

Whenever people talk about how shitty certain fast food restaurants are, I start to wonder if those chains are actually just shittier in the US than in Canada. Like how US Walmart is noticeably shittier than Canadian Walmart (like, Walmart isn't great here, but I've been to a few in the States, and hooooo boy).

    Walmarts vary pretty wildly

The one near my house is pretty nice

The one 20 minutes away is a grabage pit

My girlfriend works and I formally worked at one of the best rated Wal-Marts in the country. Like in the top 10 for sales and service. When a new one opens anywhere in either Indiana, Michigan, or Illinois they send people to train at our Wal-Mart.

It is a nightmare. I won't spend forever explaining it, but everything from organization, to management, to employees, to customers, is a living nightmare.

Yo, just a heads up, we're doing the forum-wide GotY and are in the nominations phase. Check out https://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/202645/goty-2015-poll-nominations-needed if you want to contribute

Just a reminder that Noms are still going on.

Nominations, I mean. We have no snacks. Sorry.

I probably just ruined your day, didn't I?

I don't like the podcast thread because a) as mentioned, I feel like I'm butting in to a topic that I have no interest in beyond one specific podcast, and b) the bombcast is only a small part of why I like GB and I would like to talk/read about the rest of the site without feeling like I'm getting in the way of more on-topic conversation (even if 'on-topic' isn't really a requirement).

The conversation hasn't really been about gb since the goty casts ended thiugh. Having a thread during the gluts of content (e3 and goty) makes sense as there's a lot to talk about, but even with gbeast I'm not sure they make that much widely digested content.

I mean whether that matters or not is a different story, but I think it's fair to worry that restarting the gb thread would cause it to fall back into old habits during lulls.

I mean I totally understand why it took a break and if it goes away again for however long I'm totally fine, but for me personally I have no problem with how the GB threads were. And starting in February there's gonna be tons of content anyway, so there should be lots to talk about for a while at least.

the podcast thread is pretty much the best place to shit post because it will always somehow be on topic.

there's zero reason we can't just have gb talk in the regular podcast thread, outside of goty stuff

if someone hates how much of it gb takes up, they should post about other podcasts more

Oh neat I'm listening to the newest Beastcast at work and Danielle Riendeau brought up the exact thing that swirls around in my head whenever the GB duders talk about their problems with Witcher 3's pacing. She even connected it with a thought I've had about other open world games (the whole feeling like a playbox instead of a world thing)

Very satisfying. Now I can stop thinking about how to frame those thoughts in an e-mail to those fellas. What a neat guest what a cool person

I feel like her arguments are fair about most open world games, but less so in Witcher 3 than most. It's not just that the huge scope of the game slows it down, the main story itself has some really bad pacing problems. The overall quality of the storytelling is so good I feel it completely redeems this, but I wouldn't judge anyone for losing interest before the end.

That said, she presented a fantastic attitude towards that kind of game, one I can only hope to emulte when I sit down with the next good one I buy.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't judge anyone for losing interest either and I wasn't necessarily interested in that argument being brought forth as a defense of Witcher 3

It was more about how the conversation during goty and other shows felt shallow without taking those things into account. For me it ended up seeming like they were trying to force out a conclusion to stray thoughts

It was even exacerbated when they started to bring up their life situations, the stress of other releases or the impending goty talk deadline but then not applying them to the witcher conversation or just dismissing them like when Dan kept saying things such as "if the game was good enough we would've all finished it"

So yeah whether they end up liking Witcher 3 more or not doesn't matter much to me, but having the conversation be fleshed out some feels nice

I have been eating way to much McDonalds lately.

But where I work its the only cheap option. It's either $3 for two cheeseburgers and a small drink, or drop $20 at a sit down restaurant, and fuck that.

    I live next to a mcdonald's

the only thing stopping me from eating there daily is the fear of employees recognizing me as a regular

  • WimbleWimble Registered User regular
    That's quite the conundrum

    Possible solutions:
    - Put on a mask and use a voice altering device
    - Order enough to last for an entire year at a time
    - Always pretend to be on the phone with impatient friends/coworkers who you promised to pick up mcdonald's for. To really sell it you can pretend to have to remember what they wanted as you order

    Or

-Don't give a shit they won't remember you anyway. You're just another face in the sea of mostly horrible people the minimum wage employees have to deal with.

I think in their case in particular, they also didn't like the gameplay parts of the game.

Most of them who did like it to some extent or another weren't really willing to back the combat system, for instance.

Even then the whole goddamn Dandelion hide and seek segmet would of killed them that quest line is like three times the length it should be.

I LOVE TW3 but goddamn CD Project Red needs to cut back on some of the bullshit.

It's such a shame. They have the best dialogue scenes in the business, compelling characters and an interesting world. All that stands in the way of Witcher 3 reaching more people is editing.
As you mention the Novigrad arc is too long, as is Skellige. Even the Red Baron storyline is far too long for the purposes of the main story, it's just so good as a standalone story that it works anyway. The ultimate display of their lack of respect for the players time is when you get to the isle of mist and have to go through a goddamn 15 minute snow white-parody quest before reaching Ciri. The scene that follows is powerful enough to work well despite their attempt to undermine it, but it was still off-putting.

Yeah I had one near my house that I didn't go to a lot, but went around the same time each week (well, I guess that's still a lot). Same girl always seemed to be working the drive-thru, to the point where she would like say hi and ask how my day was. The only thing that kept me from shooting myself in the head was she seemed genuinely friendly, and was close to my age and pretty cute.

Just like Pepperidge Farm, McDonalds remembers.

Shit I felt awkward when the guy at the local deli started recognizing my order when I called in and he would know what name to put down without me telling him

If the mcdonalds drive through person recognized me I'd probably just drive away forever

The worst feeling in the world is having a delivery driver remember you and comment about it

Like dang I know my life is so out of control I've ordered from you twice this week, but please just pretend you've never seen me before, I need this

I felt a little better about the Buffalo Wild Wings people knowing me because at least I ate there often because it was right next to my job

  • WimbleWimble Registered User regular
Have any of you had the opposite problem? Going to a place forever but they don't remember you?

I was a regular at a pizza place growing up. I got enthusiastic greetings and they remembered I didn't ever want pizza salad with my order (this is what pizza salad is like in Sweden, by the way)

    it was nice!

then one day just like that they looked at me as if I was a stranger when I entered. I thought maybe I was just being paranoid but when they put a salad next to my order I knew. I knew

There was a much better place called Panchero's, and they served Jones soda and let me tell you, green apple soda goes really well with burritos. But they closed down

As far as being remembered, I'm pretty well-recognized at Zaxby's and they have my order down

    I am okay with this

I had the mcdonalds mozz sticks. They were the worst mozz sticks I've ever eaten by a large margin.

    Arby's has good mozz sticks.

How the heck do you mess up deep fried cheese

It was almost not even warm!

Also they were not crispy at all. Soggy, tasteless.

Arby's ones are at least consistently good.
