I kinda hate that they put themselves in this narrative corner where they want to have fun describing the Ulamog and Kozilek as these inscrutable, inexplicable beings that are "but a distortion phenomenon... intruding from the Blind Eternities", quasi-appendages of greater unseen somethings that Ugin seemed to suggest are likely an integral aspect of existence — yet they have to be defeated, they have to be made mortal, and in doing so render the Eldrazi mundane and uninteresting. I suppose they were handled better than say... The Reapers were in Mass Effect, but it's still a bit disappointing.

Also, I usually dig Igor Kieryluk's art in spite of its often unappealing digital qualities, but goddamn is the art on Witness the End awful (as seen in great detail in today's story).

i really don't get where Kiora is coming from in this story

like, it's either a) finish the plan and everything goes fucked or b) you let them go and everything goes fucked

may as well do the one where it might kill some titans

Definitely felt like they're just doing whatever they can to further characterization of Kiora as self-interested to an often irrational and/or delusional extent. I'd almost say it's set up for when she eventually turns to the dark side and becomes Bolas' new protégé, but I actually just think it's more that they don't know what they want to do with her (as she's not part of the Gatewatch nor a presumed element of forthcoming releases) and she's just stuck in a holding pattern of sorts.

Simic - artificial selection. Nature did good, but we can tweak it to be better, and such.

Both Kiora cards are kind of a mix - one blue ability,one green, one both. Well, damage prevention is in both I guess.

Her ultimates are both straight up green though. Very, very green.

the simic guild is not the only, definitive characterization of u/g though, nor are any of the ravnica guilds

Her ultimates are green in mechanic, but big Octopi are nominally in blue so that works.

Edit: actually come to think of it, her other abilities are interesting mixes. Damage prevention is both (though targeted damage prevention is more blue); Explore is green, though drawing cards is more blue. Untapping creatures is blue, untapping lands is green. Library selection and graveyard dumping is both.

I've seen it suggested that U/G should be themed about exploration. Seeking knowledge of the wild, untamed lands. I guess this kinda works for G/W, too:



But I'd like to see a U/G theme that isn't all mad biologists and +1/+1 counters.

back when we didn't know exactly what the tarkir clans were i was big into the idea of temur being a clan of explorers. fits the wedge imo

w/g for explorers makes sense if they're like, missionaries
