Wizards of Aus is pretty cute, and I only got the title joke like 5 episodes in.

It rings very true to my sister's experience of the recent Australian influx of wizards.

open world games need to calm the hell down and make smaller, richer areas that respond more significantly to the player

    fewer, better characters

the sense of scale you get from a hundred nameless NPCs is fine but we've seen that a dozen times a year now

I think part of the reason RDR worked as well as it did was because its open world put the things that games are good at (environments) front and center and kept the thing that games are bad at (having dozens of interesting unique NPCs) mostly out of the way. Its world mostly doesn't invite the kind of "man this capital city only has like five people to talk to" thing that skyrim etc did. i mean certainly when you stop and think about how there are alpine forests all of like ten minutes' ride from Mexico the world starts feeling a bit cramped but if you're thinking about it that much tnen you've already likely invested a lot of time and care into it

People seem to be really hyped for my regular tueday night LoL game (real names redacted):
    TUESDAY TUESDAY TUESDAY (at 9pm)

WATCH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY GET FED...TO THE ENEMY TEAM!

SEE [REDACTED] "HUSKY MUSKRAT" [REDACTED] TAKE CHAMPIONS TO ROLES YOU'D NEVER EXPECT!

SEE [REDACTED] "THE TALLYMAN" [REDACTED] WEEP QUIETLY AS HIS TEAM RUNS INTO THE ENEMY BASE ONE BY ONE

SEE [REDACTED] AND [REDACTED] GET BANNED OUT SO HARD THEY'RE STUCK PLAYING TETRIS ON A TI-85

    TUESDAY NIGHT LEAGUE OF LEGENDS

YOU PAID FOR THE WHOLE SEAT BUT YOU'LL ONLY NEED THE EDGE

    (contributed by an anonymous Tuesday-nighter)

    (follow-up email)

SEE [REDACTED] "THE NETFLIX" [REDACTED] TAKE A PHONE CALL WHILE THE ENEMY TEAM TAKES BARON.

SEE "MAD" [REDACTED] BLAME LAG WHILE HE WAS REALLY WATCHING A DIFFERENT LANE!

maybe it is not actually funny if you do not witness these very behaviors from these people every week. But I am really amused and also unusually excited to play LoL tonight.

    Re: last thread

Also I meant to say that I have seen so many stupid things about "Bernie bros" on my Facebook and it's like

My entire Facebook feed is overrun with this weird debate that people are having about and at a hypothetical group out there

So putative Bernie and Hillary supporters are lecturing past each other at ghosts in a never-ending meta-debate about intra-left behavior

I have read more about this behavior than I have seen any of this behavior firsthand

Which was, yep, just like 08 all over again

I'm sure there are some supporters of each candidate who are douches

I am sure there are trolls posing as supporters of each candidate who are douches

This really doesn't seem like a big deal but our culture is entering some communications black hole and the oxygen is being depleted by yelling at the idea of a group

Part of the reason games are bad at having interesting NPCs, I believe, is that they try to have dozens. They try to create compelling cities when they haven't even managed compelling villages.

I never finished RDR, but I don't recall the environments being particularly interactive or engaging? They were gorgeous, and the occasional random event/animal encounter was pretty good (I wonder why more games don't do this).
