Capturing audio from a VLC Media Player (solved)

So I was watching a video file using VLC and a great quote came up that I'd really like to use as some sort of ringtone. I attempted to use Audacity to record the audio, but nothing was captured. The file in question is an .mkv file. I couldn't suss out what capture stream I should use in Audacity so I may have just missed something there.

Any suggestions?

Did you set the recording device in the audio control panel (windows) to "what you hear"?

Open VLC preferences, tick "advanced settings" in the bottom right corner.

Audio -> Output Modules change "Audio output module" to "File"

Go to Audio -> Output Modules -> File and change channels to 1 (ie. mono) for a ringtone, I suppose. You can also change the filename and path. By default it will create "audiofile.wav" in VLC's directory, which is a plain wave, so you can encode it to mp3 or whatever you like.

That did the trick. Thanks for the help, robaal.
