jfc kagero how hard are you throwing these needles
You are mistaken. Kagero is dead, she died in chapter 13 and I couldn't be fucked to start it over. She was ninja number 3, therefore expendable. Hayato will be sad though, they had a nice conversation about odd speech.

Honestly Kaze's the expendable one. Kagero has monster offense and Saizo can do magic/physical offense as needed.
Things I Have Learned From Repeatedly Dying To Ninjas: A Conquest 17 Story
1) Fuuuuuuuck shurikens, seriously. The stat down effect is really annoying in such a confined map where it is hard to rotate people. Even Effie and Camilla are vulnerable after a couple of defense down hits and incidental poison strike damage.
2) [NPC NAME REDACTED] is a god damned moron. Look dude, Xander is a boss, he can deal with the rear chokepoint just fine, there's no reason for you to hang back and pick a fight with every single Ninja you see.
3) Even when you think you're fine, you're not, so don't fucking spread out like a moron because reinforcements are probably coming in two turns and then everything will go to hell.
4) 1-2 weapons + lunge will fuck you up.
5) Axe/Sword breaker weapons will also fuck you up, so please stop forgetting about them and letting Beruka die the turn before Corrin murderslays the boss.
I'll give it one more go before turning in for the night, nearly had it that time before I got stupid at the end.
Scarlet.... not that I cared for you in Birthright much, but... ow, that sounded graphic
Hans is amusingly polite about the whole killing civilians thing. "Sorry, thems orders, you can go chill out over there while I kill the populace, miss."
Honestly, Fates is more nuanced about the rebel situation in Cheve than I'd really expected (you see all the rebels in Birthright; you see Nohr-loyal (at least... outward, to you) civilians who are fearful of Garon.

Hans in conquest is...
The true hero of the conquest route. He calmly explains that he'd like to stop, but the kings orders supercede yours. He even gives YOU all the credit for it later, which legitimately impresses your father for what is probably the first time ever. He's a true friend and a loyal nohr soldier. I wish I had a hundred just like him, i'd end this dumb war in an afternoon.

I nearly fucked it up again right at the end, when I sent in Effie to tank a hit from the boss without checking his weapons. Luckily guard stance saved my dumb ass from dying to the second flame shuriken hit like a chump, and I was able to finish him next turn easily.
MVP was Xander, he was so beefy when supported by an A rank Selena that the vast majority of enemy units wouldn't even attack him. Made an excellent rear guard while the rest of my team followed Saizo's dumb ass.
Hmm, is Dragon Ward based on the Luck of the user or the ally? Want to know if it's worth taking advantage of Midori's personal skill.

So what are key things to look for with kids re:inheritance? Passing skills from a class they can't become, and picking a mother (or father, in Azura's case) with growths that help with what you want the kid to do?

The mother determines hair color, which im sure we can all agree is the most crucial aspect.

From what I understand it is the adjacent unit's luck. Not Corrin's.
Chapter 22 Conquest down. Whew. That one wasn't necessarily too hard... although there were some very scary moments (including a 55% chance for Peri to die that I lucked out on). Chapters take soooooo long. I should just disable animations and save some time but... well I'm still enjoying those. The dynamic terrain based on the map is pretty cool. Plus I am finally getting to the point in the game where I have skills and crit chance! Battlelines ahoy!
Pretty brutal chapter story-wise though. I was so pumped up for Xander to kick some Iago + Hans ass for that split second before Garon appeared... poor Sakura.
I had real doubts about Conquest at first. The characters looked like they could have some really irksome personalities. I'm pleased that I like everyone in my army. I can't say I really care about most of the Hoshido retainers... but it was a bit of a gut punch attacking Sakura.
Chapter 23... I suspect some foul play. Takumi's clearly got some problems. Is this "possession" going to manifest on the battlefield...? More mundanely I can only see one of his retainers. Where is the Nohr-hater girl? I suspect she'll flank me from one of these forts at some point... hmm.
Man. So many snipers with Counter. This looks... painful.
Beruka + Arthur S rank was good! I haven't committed to it fully... I... I might want Arthur myself...? It feels like a keeper though.
I hit Xander A rank... and Silas A rank. I think they're also candidates... although I do have some misgivings with Xander.
Say. I took Silas to my Private Quarters at A rank and there were 8 hearts to fill in with a visit. Is this... linked to the extra events that happen when you're married? Can you build those before you S-rank up? Or is this some other system entirely?
I am really surprised by how much more I am liking Conquest
Awakening is, by far, my favorite game in the series so I was fully expecting to prefer Birthright but Conquest is hitting all the right buttons and having the EXP DLC map makes it a lot less stressful

Regarding the spoiler.
Oboro is there on the start of the map. She's up on the wall itself, and I believe she's paired up with somebody? That level is a gigantic pain, mostly because a lot of the enemy troops refuse to advance forward. They'll sit and rally each other until you actively fight one of them, then they all decide to fight. So there's a lot of moving up + trying to sweep 5+ units in 1 turn from full hp. I hope you're prepared!
As for the heart thing, the bottom 5 hearts fill first, which then fills the larger heart. I have no idea what this actually does though. I believe when a larger heart fills the character in question says something different? Mozu had a line about me being her hero that I dont think she ever says until you fill the larger hearts.

So if you choose the Fateful Choice, you get to keep your My Castle? As opposed to restarting in Chapter 1 with a new Corrin, and then having to earn all the Visit bonuses from scratch?
Someone on my Calling Card list (from the forums) changed Avatars despite having the same code.

You don't keep your castle, but you do keep your visit and battle points and your cards

When you choose the branch of fate (that starts you at chapter 6) you are asked to create a new avatar anyway. Gender, hair, voice, etc. You can of course choose the exact same things if you want.
After you finish chapter 6 it dumps you into a fresh castle. Once you've updated data, you'll be able to use the visit/battle bonuses that you've earned (and continue adding to them.)
From my understanding of it, players who visit you specifically by streetpass number will visit the most recently castle youve updated the data for (the streetpass number for both my castles is identical)
If you have a particular castle setup that is enticing for players to visit, then you'll want to forego updating data in your other castle until you want to see if you've earned more rewards, or make sure to immediately go back to your other save file and update there before changing back.
One last thing to note about starting the branch of fate, your avatar will have a level the exact same as your avatar did when you first played through that chapter. Ive no idea how it picks this criteria, but id assume it looks at your most recent save, and then copies your level. You can however change your boon/bane stats (so your stats at the same level will be slightly slightly different.) Additionally, if you swap genders, your butler/maid changes. And as far as I know, thus starts as level 1 due to them being considered level 1 at the time of the save file its reading. Otherwise your maid/butler, much like the MU, will retain whatever levels you gave them. For example, if I start a branch of fate with the same boon/bane, my avatar is level 9, felicia is level 3, and I have 15 speed. If I change the boon/bane and gender, I am level 9 with 12 speed, and my Jakob is level 1.
Even when you start fresh, you get access to all the battle and visit awards you unlocked previously. PLUS you can get the Before Awakening seals again, which I heard isn't possible if you chose Branch of Fate

Oh, good to hear the seals are available when starting at the Branch of Fate too. Someone had reported it didn't, but I imagine they were just accidentally killing off Chrom and Co each time? Booo
Still not totally sure who will get Great Lord and Lodestar on my Conquest game
Laslow seems like an okay option for Lodestar since it'll help his Speed a bit
If your avatar unit is male, I heavily suggest making his wife the Great Lord. The level 15 Nohr skill allows you to activate your pair up partners abilities. So you can have your MU using Aether off his pair-up, as he cant normally be a great lord.
Alternatively, make Elise the great lord, because it would be hilarious.

ate my first corrin death in conquest 11. probably a blessing since I'd gotten azura and nyx killed with silly stuff
unsure whether i want to try and storm up both paths simultaneously again or just pile everybody through one. the second room down each is tricky! (ninjas/hex rod)

Beyond Aether I never found much use for the great lord. They do well when surrounded by other units (giving them +2 from charm, and doing +3 themselves if they're the partner in attack stance) but then their final ability only does stuff under 50% which was just too terrifying for me to make use of. And if you're trying to take advantage of aether you basically cant have them just being the support (also itll keep healing them out of awakenings trigger range)
Basically I only found great lords great as a pair up for the nohr trust skill. Beyond that I felt like they were just bad! But maybe someone else has a better idea for where to put one. (Although, now that ive said all this, maaaaaybe azura? Stack all her aura effects, enemies take deal -4, take +2, azura does +3 and allies do +2. That's a potential +4/-4 swing for everyone within 2 tiles of her, even if she's not directly supporting them.)

Oh, and Wyborn did give me a heads up about Conquest 13
Namely that reinforcements show up when Scarlet moves. Though he forgot to mention they'd come from the north as well. I had already instinctively clustered my troops together though, so I was pretty pleased that I would have weathered those units regardless.

Mild and vague gameplay spoilers for later Conquest chapters:
At some point, almost every "significant" action you take, e.g. aggroing a stationary group of enemies, attacking a boss, moving into a new section of the map, will trigger at least a couple reinforcements. It's definitely a good habit to keep your people relatively close together and be prepared for enemies to suddenly show up behind you.
It was a really pleasant surprise when I started Conquest to find out I got to keep all of my Battle and Visit points. All of those rewards really helped out in a game with restricted money.

Not to mention all of the stat up items heh heh.
There's just something about starting chapter 7 with your avatar having skills from level 15 promoted classes, and a weapon twice as good as any you could have possibly bought at that time.
I haven't actually tried lunatic, but I do wonder if Lunatic conquest was balanced around being able to take advantage of these things. Hard conquest seems like it would be staggeringly difficult on a "purist" run where you dont use dlc, castle bonuses, etc. So lunatic feels like it would be even more insane.
Just finished Birthright and am downloading Conquest now. I'm interested to see how different it is. Birthright kind of dragged on in the middle; the ending redeemed it, but...
I don't think it helped that I had buyer's remorse with marrying Jakob. He was so mean to his kid oh my GOD.
I'm thinking Conquest might be a bit less formulaic in terms of plot, hopefully, based on the setup!
Just as a reminder, if you're looking to farm up visit/battle points for your castle, you do get these points for visiting/battling other people's castles too.
When you enter someones castle you get points for 1. visiting 2. leaving feedback on their castle 3. Giving them an accessory (This does NOT remove the accessory from your inventory, but it DOES give the player you gifted it to a copy of that accessory) 4. using a building (this of the 4 things boots you, so I dont suggest it if you're farming points)
You get 1 battle point for choosing to fight in the enemy castle. 1 battle point for winning. And the last battle point for leaving feedback on the battle
Each castle you visit should be thus netting you 3 visit and 3 battle points.
