i hold the controller with my left hand normally, but my right hand i put the thumb on joystick, my index finger over face buttons and my middle and ring finger over the bumper and trigger
this way i don't have to move my thumb from the joystick to the face buttons
it was pioneered back in the halo 1 days by a pro named walshy (who i guess now is a shoutcaster/analyst for pro halo matches?). it was mostly useful for mid-air double-melee glitch as the halo 1 jump was so slow you would never do it in a 1v1 fire fight to get the upper hand
later halos (and prob over console shooters) the jumps got faster and higher so twitch mid-air aiming got more useful

The claw is one of those things you see a friend doing and you just politely don't mention he's doing it wrong. Like seeing someone eat with a fork in their off hand, you know they are wrong, but hope they just understand how wrong eventually.
The fork switching to the dominant hand is now out of fashion I believe
the thing is I don't even realize i'm using the claw
like i started using it before i knew it was a thing, i didn't like try to start using it, i just naturally evolved that way
I actually have no idea if I do this for OW. I assume I do, because I do it for CoD games, but unless I sit down and start playing I actually cannot remember.
If you play with a controller in an MP FPS even when given the opportunity to use KBAM you are betraying those whom you call your friends and compatriots

You curve your index finger to hit the face buttons instead of using your thumb, that way you can have your thumb on the thumbstick while also hitting a face button.
It's as painful as it looks.
This is silly. Why would anybody do that?

People actually use controllers like that?
What is wrong with people?
If you have to hold a controller like that why not just play a game with a mouse?

Hrm. The XSTAT system was finally used. It's an injectable sponge system for groin, axillae junction injuries. Which tend to be difficult to stop the bleeding in. That could have some applications for motor vehicle injuries.

I thought holding a controller Accountant style was bad but this is worse!

Bullshit, when Myrtle showed me at the plantation the proper method for forking she said it would never go out of style!
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

You can continue moving the thumbstick while hitting a face button.
So for instance in Halo you can continue to aim while jumping, which is actually kind of a big deal.

If it came from the original Xbox controller I suppose I have more sympathy
That thing needed three stout men holding ropes and leaping around in to allow full button access. It's still one of the mysteries of console development that they never stopped making scaled mock ups

i was super into the halo 1 competitive scene back then i would've been so jelly
walshy came onto my xbconnect session once with two friends and wrecked me, porp and my best friend on our host (something like 50-30) and i nearly died i was so starstruck

It seems like it would be better to put all functions that would require access to the thumbstick on the shoulder buttons and save the face buttons for less common or aim-involved functions like reloading
I guess they try to do that but underestimate what benefits from aiming
If anything the controller should be mostly shoulder buttons!

Maybe because it's not a classic oxbox controller.
No idea how you kids do that fancy claw thing, this is coming from someone who took guitar lessons every week for 10 years.

Did you open the door just as he rode by for cartoon pratfalls

Oh dear zebus that looks horrifying
Are those your hands?

I mean, how do you access the face buttons if you are using a controller without doing some version of the claw?
Do you just give up on them? Do you take your thumb off the right analog stick?
Do you use your face somehow? Feet?
I thought hippies would be kindly but it has not been my experience this far : (
