Now I want Cirque du Soleil to make an EDM show.
Porter has a show coming up in DC.
If you've never seen him live you owe it to yourself.

I live in NJ and have been tossing around the idea of driving down just for that show.
It's vocoloid software and voice changing stuff not autotune.
That said his show is very much about the visuals. He makes you feel the feels.
Also depending on which show it is it could be his "Live" show.
If it's his live show he controls what the screens are showing/sings the songs with voice changing stuff and uses a drumkit while live sampling to play the songs. It's p awesome.
His DJ set has rad visuals too.

Wait, you used Ultra, as in the show in Miami, as a judge of EDM culture? The most commercial, brought to you by 7-up, bro-dude-oiled-back-hair-gold-chain-sunglasses-at-midnight, show possible? The same show that gave Andy C, a don of drum and bass, 7 whole minutes of screen time, because we have to get back to listening to Generic Hard House DJ #37?
....Sorry, I really dislike Ultra. I am sad if you made a judgement of EDM culture based on Ultra. Not because you did it, how else can you judge...but because Ultra really shows off the worst of the culture at most times.
I was leaning more to the fact that the EDM events I'm seeing in DC start at midnight.l, though yes, people turn into attention whores at Ultra. My friend was in a leotard at the event. I merely favored Ultra because it was on a beautiful Saturday, instead of the dead of night (bonus points go to military employees in Korea being bound to a hardass curfew of 1AM.)
For example, when I returned stateside, the first EDM show I saw outside if Ultra was Harwell, New Years Day. The doors opened at 9 and were opening acts until approximately 12:30-2:30 AM, with a closing act until 4AM. I was so unprepared for this that I couldn't finish and went home at approximately 1:30 exhausted.
Recently I invited a friend to see Dash Berlin, and we showed up a little later at 10:30. My friend loved the massive, seizurelicious venue but he was concerned the place was "dead" until midnight. He left early exhausted at 1AM and I followed soon after at 2:30.
I'm going to power nap tonight in preparation for a show, with the hopes that I actually finish it. Contract when I saw Amon Amarth, which ended at midnight.
EDIT - For a Halloween show I'm going to be dressed as the Bloodborne Hunter
EDIT - I saw Armin van Burren last night. He played from 12:30 to closing (4 AM.) I've never seen a main act play so long there. The only reason I left at 3:40 was because my knee couldn't take anymore. That guy is a beast!

If you've never been to Tivoli, it's the only permanent music venue with the vibe and energy of a good weekend music festival that I've found to date, as it's essentially a huge outdoor stage surrounded by an amusement park replete with rides, roller coasters, games, bars, restaurants and even an alternate indoor theater.
I struggle with this too. I could spam a bunch of my favorites here

Porter Robinson and Madeon's Shelter performance, holy shit. I completely misjudged Robinson. Originally turned off by the autotune and anime, I am now spellbound by the duo performing via two dj sets, two drum kits and vocals.
They're getting all my money.
