You should be able to land a freighter and use it as a planetary base.
Freighters would be way too big. They should have special colonization frigates that can be recruited. They would be smaller. Give them an interior, some landing pads on top and maybe a big ramp to drive vehicles onto the surface.
I want a Millenium Falcon sized ship. Something that can still take off and land from planets and stations, but that you can walk around inside and maybe decorate.
I feel like this is the hole that freighters are meant to fill? But at the same time I think this is something they'd be looking at for a future update
Especially now that small-group multiplayer is a thing
I would be way, way into crewed ships. Or at least ships with mannable turrets.

Does anyone’s ship seem to sink into the ground or landing pads when landed? Like the skids are inside the terrain/pad. I noticed NPC ships are not like this.
Oh man, I am going to need heaps of buried technology so that I can start getting base components as when bases were just added; because I have a quest that requires me to have someone in the base research something so that I can get blueprints to make my own Ion Batteries and stuff, but more importantly, so that I can research and make/build my own Exocraft/car...

Inventory management is still causing me a problem, even with a freighter and a star ship

FYI Frigates do have interiors and landing pads. There are also sections of them you can spacewalk on. (And infact have to to repair them if they are damaged on a mission)
Is there much of a grind to get a freighter/frigate/base setup?
I'm tempted to reinstall but if it's a grindfest I'll pass
Getting to the freighter took me a couple of hours, but that was playing permadeath so less resources and generally playing slowly and cautiously.
You get one as part of the tutorial sort-of-quest-chain, which is worth doing anyway because it introduces a bunch of stuff.
There's plenty of stuff to grind after that, but there also seem to be a number of things that drop a million or three units into your lap, so who knows how it shakes out.
I had to repair my frigate AGAIN (the idiots are good at industrial tasks, but always blow up asteroids damaging their ship) and I didn’t want to take that long ladder down so I jumped down deciding to brake my ascent with the jetpack.
I missed the ramp, and fell into the deep void of space...
Byebye to all my lovely exosuit contents (like platinum, drop pod stuff, mordite to learn Vy’keen words, and a bucketload of refined materials...)
Yeah if you build storage containers on your frigate do not walk into the gaps between them and the walls. Lost all of my stuff and it glitched my frigate so I had to reload the game.

So my one big issue with the game isn't the game part, I've always liked that
It's that now that there's a bunch more moving parts, and they're parts I want to interact with, and they're all parts that interact with each other? They can't break so easily anymore
And they do! I had a frigate glitch out that it was permanently damaged, and when I landed to repair it wouldn't spawn a damaged terminal for me to repair. It said "damaged components: 0" even! So I left, and it still showed as damaged. I save, reload, and go over, and now it shows me a damaged component. Excellent! So I repair it, and the frigate repair submission marks as complete. But the frigate still shows as damaged, and when I demand to try and repair it for the third time, it says "damaged components: 1" but still doesn't spawn a damaged terminal to fix! I run a lap, nothing's broken, I leave, send it off on an expedition because it's not doing me any good sitting there, and then it gets itself destroyed
Meanwhile I've established three bases on three worlds in three different systems -- one the tutorial base, the other my "main" base I want to build up, and a third just cuz. But in the middle of that I acquired my freighter, which I guess counts as its own base? Anyway, long story short I now have a "base archives" mission that is permanently attached to my freighter that requires a base computer to access for "further blueprints" (either a tutorial thing or a progression thing? I dunno) but I can't actually build a base computer on my freighter, the waypoint for the objective is stuck at the border between the freighter's habitat deck and the hangar bay, and I can't abandon the mission or figure out any way to mark one of my existing bases as my "home" base just to see if that would fix the busted quest
I had a quest break earlier in the traveler story where it spawned something that according to dialogue was supposed to be on the same planet and in a cave, but it spawned it on a different planet and above ground. I've had my ship glitch into another of my ships shortly after I got my freighter, and couldn't take off from the pad because it would shoot me up into the ship and glitch me inside it, and the only way I managed to escape was pure luck in reloading the save and managing to shoot out the front of the hangar bay instead of into the ceiling, and then my cockpit was caught in the opening animation which looped repeatedly until I saved and quit the entire program and restarted it. Oh, and my freighter is glitched to think its hyperdrive is empty even though it's a hundred percent full
It's been two years, guys. I know you're a very small team, and this update probably broke a few things, but the bigger and more ambitious this game has gotten, the more it's acquired failure points that matter
This shit cannot break so bad that I wonder if my save is ruined. That straight up cannot be allowed in a game that demands so much time investment
...but I found a cool dead planet with creepy tunnels earlier and took a bunch of dope photos so the game is still alright, don't get me wrong
in my experience, when glitches frustrated me - which they absolutely have in this game - it's been in the early stages after release and major changes. hello games have bought my trust. i've played quite a bit since pathfinder and i don't recall anything (even the niggling little stuff) beyond those early months that they didn't fix. i am playing on the native PS4, though
Ha, nice to hear that I’m not the only one who spent way too much time on his freighter looking for that bade archive!
Also, I walked toward the circular console next to the navigator, and I knew that you can see and rename your fleet there, but then I walked around it and found a galactic map which allows me to warp my freighter, and there’s also a set of bigger freighter mission list at that console.
And now I am wondering what I have to do/build to make fleet upgrades and freighter upgrades...

My entire Gek crew of my freighter has suddenly been replaced with Vy’Keen. When talking to the captain the text even implies that this was the captain I got the ship from despite him being an entirely different race.

Bummer.
My freighter-owning friends told me this appears to change when you warp between systems where the dominant race is different. If you warp back to a Gek system they’ll probably change again, then maybe you’ll want to keep your freighter there until they fix the bug.
Either that or your space crew union insists on hiring local.
Similar to the above with that damn base mission. And I am busting my ass trying to get the Atlas v2 card so I can just buy backpack slots but no luck so far.
I don’t understand how you’re supposed to inventory stack, I thought it would help for multiple segments of the same material but it doesn’t let you
It does but it only lets you stack so much of each material per slot. 250 per backpack slot, 500 per ship slot, no clue about freighters. Exotic stuff may have different amounts allowed, I dunno.
Also, it has to be the exact same material, not one of the sightly better/worse versions. Ferrite dust compared to pure ferrite, or carbon as opposed to condensed carbon (I figure you knew this one, I was just covering all my bases)
so i'm about two hours into my first legit permadeath run (post-next) and i figured i'd risk the elements and my precious resources on one of these ancient ruin rackets. all in all, i think it was worth it...
looks even cooler in flight:
it's s-class, so while i didn't get that many inventory slots, it automatically comes with 40, 50 and 60 percent boosts to weapon damage, shield strength and hyperdrive distance 8-)

Now I am torn on wether to play on PS4 or PC. If I play on PC, I can use my Xbone Elite controller, but if I play on PS4 I can probably stream and may know more people to play with there.
Of course, this may give me a reason to finally upgrade my PC a bit. . .
Fixed an issue that will restore more savegames for players who saved with partially repaired tech.
Fixed an issue where players who had partially repaired a piece of broken technology would have an incorrect item in the repair interaction
Fixed an issue where players in underwater bases played the wrong animations
Fixed an issue where freighters incorrectly reported they did not have enough fuel to warp
Fixed a crash in the base-building system
Improved garbage collection and reduced memory footprint of physics
Prevented occasional crash in animation
Reduce memory footprint of planetary textures from space
p.s. definitely do send bug reports if you have issues because i'm sure they use them to guide their priorities

Hopefully it's a great distraction for the month of sobriety before PAX.
autosaves haven't failed me yet, but dang that hasn't been happening until tonight. i wonder what's up.

I've heard turning off boost mode can help with crashes.

BUT it does fit nicely with 65daysofstatic's whole thing. Still want it fixed tho
no idea how to get any of the advanced blueprints yet!
