PS3 owners, how many games do you own?

I've had a PS3 since late December and I still only have Resistance. I am probably going to buy Oblivion at some point, even though it isn't my type of game, and perhaps Armored Core 4.

At this point.. I think the PS3 is at the lowest point it will ever be in its life cycle (or at least it better be!). For me, the greatest thing about owning it at the moment is knowing that there are some awesome games that will be coming out for it. No matter your favorite genre, the PS3 isn't catering to it right now with all of the poor quality ports coming out. For instance, take the Splinter Cell: Double Agent port and the apparently poor graphics port of F.E.A.R. (although I'm skeptical of all "poor graphics" rants I've read on it - the game is old, is it really fair to say it looks like a last-gen game when it comes from the last generation?)

Which makes me ask.. to the PS3 owners here, how many of you own a PS3 game? Anyone that doesn't own a PS3 is able to comment on the aforementioned situation as well, this is not an exclusive-to-PS3-owners topic. :)

Well, I own Resistance, Genji (yea, yea, I know. It's just pretty), NBA Street is out with a friend, Motorstorm I haven't picked up yet (time). Most of the games I wanted got pushed back. Like, to July and beyond  PSN wise, I'm getting Mortal Kombat 2, and the Street Fighters when they come out.

But beginning in June, Ninja Gaiden Sigma will consume most of my playing time. Until then? Resistance. And yes, this really is the worst it's going to be.

I have Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter 5, flow, and Blast Factor. I'm thinking about getting Resistance, since it's only £30, and the F1 demo has me thinking about picking that up once it's a bit cheaper, as they really seem to have nailed it.

Motorstorm, Restistance, VF5, Marvel: UA, Tekken DR, Oblivion, Fight Night, and COD3. Yeah, it's obvious that I haven't gotten my 360 yet. Aside from that, movies have been serving me very, very well. I can barely watch DVD's anymore.

As far as the future? I've got high hopes for R6: Vegas, Stranglehold, Assassin's Creed, and Lair most prominently. I was interested in FEAR, but then I remember playing it on the PC and not being to terribly drawn in (mostly because I got tired of the same office building setting), but I'll probably rent it. AC4 is doubleplusgood, highly recommend that one.

You should buy it. Today. The first few areas are "get used to the game" and then it becomes "Win the fucking war with these awesome weapons".

I also want Stranglehold, but I have no idea when it's coming out. Calling All Cars is this week? Nice.

The movies have kept me busy as well. I finally got around to seeing all of Blackhawk Down, and man, that rocked.

Well, I have Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Oblivion, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (great fun, especially in co-op), and Virtua Fighter 5. Not too interested in Motorstorm, as I can see it getting old fast and it lacks multiplayer. Anyways, the real big games won't start hitting for a little while now. There's always a dry period after consoles are released. Lair and Heavenly Sword are coming out soon, though; and while Lair may not look that impressive from a gameplay stand-point (seriously, the gameplay videos haven't been that impressive), Heavenly Sword is looking quite nice.

Well... it doesn't lack online multiplayer... which is really the only reason you should be buying the game for in the first place. That is unless you are talking about offline multiplayer... then yes... it lacks multiplayer.

I'm giving them some slack, because they're still in Alpha. But riding around on a dragon attempting to win a war sounds like fun.

Also, Heavenly Sword needs to release more footage.

Yes, I meant offline multiplayer. I'm not a big online racer fan, and playing multiplayer games with your roommates/friends is a lot more enjoyable. I don't know, I just haven't been attracted to Motorstorm much. Games have to be more than just pretty for me to want to pick them up, and Motorstorm seems to be a simple game without too much content. No offense to anyone who has it and enjoys it, of course.

Isn't Motorstorm getting a patch to add split-screen multiplayer? Don't get me wrong, it's lame that they're going to have to patch that in, but it shows that they're still working on it if it's true. I can't wait until we get some more maps for this bitch.

    I've got:

    Blu-ray discs:
    Resistance: Fall of Man
    Ridge Racer 7
    Fight Night Round 3
    Formula 1 Championship Edition

    PSN games:
    FlOw
    Tekken 5: DR
Mortal Kombat II (am I the only one who thinks III was superior?)
    Q-Bert
    Gripshift

Mostly, I've been using my PS3 as a PS2/PS1. So, I've been playing a lot of God of War, Final Fantasy XII, and Final Fantasy Tactics. I've also the last two Xenosagas and Rogue Galaxy in my backlist that need finishing.

I'm content to wait until this fall/winter for the good stuff. By then, shouldn't most of the big titles be out?

I'm hoping that the store has better games at some point. So far, it's been pretty thin. I was expecting stuff like GTA II to be available through it.

I hope that's true, because that's a big factor in deciding if I want it. It looks like it's fun, but only for a little while, but smashing each other into rocks in offline multiplayer helps to increase that playability.

I'll weigh in on this just for fun.

I don't own a PS3 but if I did go out and get one now I would own Virtua Fighter 5, Fear, and some Playstation Network games like Mortal Kombat 2. Virtual Fighter 5 would be an instant purchase for me because it would be the most obvious purchase at the moment. I loved Virtua Fighter 4 and the create a character mode in 5 looks really fun. Fear I would get because I have not played any version of the game but have heard a lot of good things about it and I think the PS3 would provide a better experience for scaring the shit out of you then the PC version. Oh yeah, I see Tekken Dark Resurrection mentioned above, that is another game I would get for sure.

Games that I would consider getting but would not be guaranteed purchases are Motorstorm, Resistance, and Fight Night Round 3. The last one mentioned would probably has the highest chance of being picked. I have played Motorstorm and it is a good deal of fun, but I would wait to get it used because I don't see it lasting all too long compared to a lot other games. Basically I wouldn't own more than three games at this point regardless though because I like to spread my purchases out and a lot of the really good games have yet to hit obviously. Right now I have a Wii with Twilight Princess and Red Steel just for reference (plus 4 VC games). I also have Cooking Mama which I was able to get for free and Wii Sports of course.

    It's pretty good.

Graphically, it's very strong, although I think the rain effects are a bit overdone at times, and the drivers look kinda 2D compared to the otherwise good 3D graphics. The replays look amazing. It helps that they use FIA television chrome for them (and the HUD graphics). It really adds to the realism.

The audio is great. By far the most realistic sounding driving game I've heard (although, to be fair, I've really only been exposed to Gran Turismo). The cars sound like F1 cars. They all have that classic F1 banshee screech. What's really cool is that the in-car engine notes sound different for each manufacturer. So a Red Bull sounds deeper than a Ferrari, for example. The commentary is pretty boring -- some British guy whom I've never heard before (he's not one of the guys on Speed) does what little commentary there is. The coolest feature is that you get radio from your pit, so your lead engineer will tell you when your pit window is, if there are any local cautions, if you've set the fastest lap, etc.

The controls are decent, although I suck at driving games so I keep most of the driving aids on. You can tweak those settings a lot, so the controls are very adaptable.

The only major complaint I have is that you can't save between different stages of a race weekend (practice, qualifying, and the race itself). So, if you want to do a full length race, be sure to set aside a good chunk of extra time for practice and qualifying. And try not to crash because you'll have to redo the entire weekend (which I found out the hard way after crashing with 10 laps to go in Malasiya when I was leading the race).

Since this thread for PS3 owners on this forum is like an outdoor lamp to moths, I'm going to ask a general question.

I kinda want a PS3, but I'm not really chomping at the bit, and it'll be a while before I have the money anyway. However, I'm kinda worried that when I do have the money and interest, I'll have to go get a nice tv (I only have a 27" CRT right now) to really get my money's worth. Is this true?

I was playing mine on a 20" CRT with S-Video. Then I got my 42" LCD.

I'll go ahead and say that it makes a massive difference. Soon after I got that LCD, I tried my XB, PS2, and GC on it just to see how big of a difference it made with those, but it didn't really compare a whole lot to the jump with the PS3.

That said, it's still gorgeous on a regular CRT, but the difference is massive. You don't need an HDTV, but it certainly adds to it.

That is probably true in most cases. There was a discussion about this on 1up Yours and it basically amounted to them saying that PS3 games still look very nice on standard definition but to really get your moneys worth from the system you will need to own an HDTV. This extends beyond games too because it would also make a huge difference in watching Blu-Ray movies.

I don't want to spur on another battle of the fanboys by mentiong *gasp* A SYSTEM OTHER THAN THE PS3, but I've noticed that none of my next-generation purchases have been huge game magnets. For the Xbox 360 I have Gears of War, Viva Pinata, and Dead Rising. For the Wii I have Rayman, Super Paper Mario, Zelda, Red Steel, and Super Monkey Ball. Maybe this is just due to my own personal taste, but I think we still have a bit longer to go before the next-gen boom really goes off. I'd imagine by the end of the year and into next, all three of the consoles will have a lot more going for them than Madden 200X and maybe one or two worthwhile exclusives.

Yea, it's pretty typical. I remember playing a lot of Philosoma back in the PS1 days. The libraries will beef up.

And the game will still look good on a SD TV, but there is a marked difference between SD Motorstorm and HD Motorstorm. Were I you, I'd wait till later in the year when some of the more advanced TVs are out to get one.

I bought Resistance at launch, and I purchased Oblivion last month. I've been tempted to get Motorstorm, but I think I'll wait for a price drop or two (short track list). The lack of an online mode, or even a story mode, put me off Virtua Fighter 5.

on another note i saw a gameplay comparison of fear on 360 and ps3, and it looked better on ps3 to me, but i have yet to actually play it on ps3 myself, i probably won't get it though, even though i really enjoyed the game, i already beat it on my pc

i bought vf5 as soon as it launched, and was initially really happy with my purchase, the graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is smooth, the customization is awesome, but the game got a little boring just fighting the computer with no actual story involved(not that fighting games are really know for good stories, but i like to get some pretty cg cut scenes) but the other day i had my friends over and we played some VF5, and holy, that is the best fighter jesus has EVER made, it's so balanced and the gameplay is sooo good, i'm incredibly glad i purchased it, it was a ton of fun, an online mode would be cool, but if it effected the gameplay it would ruin it, cause any lag would totally fuck it up, since some of the moves require precise timing.

Wow. I don't want make this a big deal, as the topic of this game should remain the realm of the PS3, but where do you get off criticizing my choice in games? God forbid I like something else other than the handful of first party titles Nintendo releases every year. Sheesh.

Anyway, getting back on topic, I see a lot of promise in the PS3, despite all the negative press Sony has been getting lately. We've just barely hit the threshold from last generation to the next, so there's still plenty of time for the system to shine.

Just think of right now as a good time to finish all those past-gen games you never got around to completing. I'm looking at you, Generic JRPG #4374389.

I just got mine about a month ago so I only have 2 games. Oblivion, which I bought with the system, and Splinter Cell. I've been kind of teetering on Resistance since I've never been good at/enjoyed FPS game on consoles, but the online sounds pretty fun and it seems like there's a large community. For the PSN game I have Lemmings, MKII and Gran Tourismo. Just like with Resistance I've been holding off on Flow since I'm not really sure how long I'd play it. On the other hand it's like the cost of one sub from subway :p Splinter Cell is a disappointment though. After playing it on my room mates 360 a while ago, there's just no comparison. The PS3 version has dumbed down graphics and a lot of pretty bad framerate issues. Still hoping for a patch to fix this shit but I'm not holding my breath.

Between my room mate and I we have all 3 systems so we can enjoy the best from all 3 worlds. There's a lot of good stuff coming out this year that I'm looking forward to so I don't regret my purchase.

Edit: Rayman on the Wii is a lot fun with 4 people.

Well, since it was said that this thread is open to all next gen consoles, I've picked up the following for my Wii.

Elebits - I can't get into it. I keep giving it a chance, but I fear that there is no meat there.
Excite Truck - Writing about it makes me want to play it again. Ther's a couple tracks left on highest difaculty that I haven't gotten an "S" rating on yet. Need to rectify that...
The Ledgend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Zelda is, well, Zelda. But also one of my favorites. It's literally awesome. In that it puts me in a state of awe at times. Exceptional execution. Love the story.
Marble Mania - Great game, but far too short. It's Marble Madness with wiimotes. Exactly as you'd expect. Nothing less, nothing more. And for that, I adore it.
Rayman: Raving Rabids - Rayman was a a ton of fun, and I still get the urge to play me some dancing bunnies, or some singing bunnies (I forget the real names of the mini games).
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - Had a blast. Got it at launch. Quite the departure from previous Super Monkey Ball games though in that most of the multiplayer modes are unplayable, or just unfun. It's the single player that shines.
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves - Had a blast with it. Don't play it much except to show off to people who are new to the Wii. Fun in groups.
Wii Play - I've barely touched Wii Play, despite having played the hell out of Wii Sports.
Wing Island - I'm a bit disapointed, but to be fair, my expectation was another Pilot Wings. Not a cartoon staring ducks that fly airplanes for hire. Gameplay is okay, but thank god there's not much to the "storyline".

I haven't picked up Super Paper Mario yet, because I still have Paper Mario 2 still shrink wrapped. (Started a new job a couple months ago, and I've had very little home console gaming time.) I'm kind of half heartedly waiting for Paper Mario 1 to come out on Virtual Console before I play 2.

I have no idea what I'll do when the holidays roll around and all the great games come out.

I'd imagine by the end of the year and into next, all three of the consoles will have a lot more going for them than Madden 200X and maybe one or two worthwhile exclusives.

if those bold ones are you draws for the wii then.....yeah

I'm looking at you, Generic JRPG #4374389.

i was just messing with you dude :P chill, sorry let me rephrase that, YOU MUST LIKE EVERYTHING I LIKE AND NOTHING ELSE!!! L33T!! etc.. :P

I don't have ANY games for my PS3 right now. It's depressing :(
I had Resistance, but didn't think it was that great, so I ebayed it. I had Gundam Musou, but same deal.
