After watching UR spells vs UR emerge in round 5, I want both. Leaning towards emerge for game day because octopus.

My draft last night was mono black/light red/splashing white for the standard rw vehicle deck.

P1p1 skysovereign, p2p1 pia nalar and passed a depala, p3p1 fleetwheel cruiser.

The white was just for depala, veteran motorist, and a restoration gearsmith.

It was fun but I'm pretty sure I only won the rounds I did because of skysovereign. That card is pretty bomby

    Yeah ScoopShip is bonkers.

Shota Yasuoka just used Saheeli's Artistry to double copy Noxious Gearhulk in draft.

    Twice.

He won that match, although game one was closer than that would suggest.

Mostly because it is really hard to answer and can be run by any deck.

Common answers are especially hard to find. White has zero since Fragmentize misses. Blue just has Malfunction unless you manage to catch it with Failed Inspection. Other than a timely Mind Rot black only has Tidy Conclusion. For green it's just Appetite for the Unnatural.

Red's answers are the most numerous, but also awkward. Demolish is kind of mediocre, Ruinous Gremlin only marginally better, and Welding Sparks needs at least two artifacts which can be hard if Skysovereign shoots one when it ETBs.

I've been on both sides of it and it is just miserable. I almost hate winning with it since it is so dumb.

Opponent had a 39 CMC hand being one land or an enchanment sac from casting more Emrakuls. Had already burned through one Ulamog and one Emrakul.

Edit: Oh god, I feel bad for this caster. He sounds super sick.

My group is itching to continue their deck development after this little tournament. Right now the rules we have in place is "No buying singles, trade only within the group".

This is probably going to be a Kaladesh block constructed thing, so... I dunno. What's the balanced way of doing this? I mean, in theory none of us would be splurging to make a deck, so singles buying shouldn't be so bad, but not all of us would want/have time to go card hunting.

after a string of poopy draft decks I finally hit a good one - mostly black, with a bit of white from a 2nd pick Restoration Gearsmith that I never drew. I did get to pull some fun shit:

-Acrobatic Maneuver + Demon of Dark Schemes
-Marionette Master (servos) + Morbid Curiosity
-Eliminate the Competition saccing 5 servos
-dry-firing Die Young just to get the two energy I needed to use Demon to animate my opponent's dead Aethersquall Ancient

I'd just ditch your "no buying singles" rule, then you don't get people opening a bomb rare dominating your group or someone not getting any good cards in the colours they like to play and not having any fun. It feels much better to just spend $30 on some singles to get what you really want to play rather then buying packs and not getting what you wanted.

If your really worried about keeping costs down then you can always cap the number of mythics/rares a deck can have.

and those that want to can easily get the cards they want via numerous internet stores without having to spend a lot of time.

    what a card

    hmmmmmm

if you have a Metalwork Colossus in your graveyard and 6 clues (or any artifacts but clues are easiest)

you can play Marionette Master as a 4/6, sac all your clues to the Colossus (respond to each activation with the next activation) for an instant kill.

speaking of rules, I just found out my LGS has a rule that I really love

if you crack a masterpiece in a draft, they replace the pack in the draft at no charge, and you get to keep the pack with the masterpiece in it

nobody has to make the choice between taking the masterpiece and taking a card that suits their deck better, nobody gets blown out by masterpieces

    it's a win-win

the draft pod before mine yesterday had someone who cracked a pack with a masterpiece and a Nissa

yeah I like that rule a lot; we had the same thing going with expeditions.

although I think it was optional, and you paid the $4 for the pack if you replaced it.

That's a really cool rule and I approve of it.

I actually wonder what casual (FNM - like) events would think about using a proxy for a Masterpiece yoh opened, so long as you can show it. Because if I opened, let's say, Sol Ring, Id WANT to play it, but hell if I want to be shuffling a 150 dollar card even sleeved. That's buy a LOT of Lantern pieces

Official policy is that proxies can only be issued for miscut or otherwise out-of-the-pack "marked" card. No exceptions at any REL.

I have a sore lack of White creatures and a surplus of Blue creatures. Green doesn't look so half bad either, but lack of mana fixing hampers my decision to go 3 colors.
