i kinda wish people would stop shitting on kanye for having a very public meltdown and canceling a concert because he has mental and/or physical health problems

"YEAH WELL GORD DOWNIE AND LEMMY WERE LITERALLY DYING AND..."

yes, yes, that's very nice, good for them

other musicians should not be held up to that standard, that standard is actually really self-destructive and harmful

it is very much like the "play through the pain" culture in pro sports and it's fucked up and awful, we shouldn't be expecting it of people it's awful

if a person who is literally dying decides to go out on their own terms, that's their call and we can respect that, while also showing empathy to someone who very obviously has serious problems that likely have gone improperly treated for years precisely because they are rich and famous

where are the grotesque displays of consumerism

I went out this evening and got some christmas lights but that's about it, nothing too grotesque.

I did receive a case of wine that got shipped to me this morning which seems fairly grotesque.

I mean maybe you don't have to... I did in legend of grimrock 2 and sunless sea as well

I have a fairly decent game memory. I needed to keep a game journal for the MUD because memorizing text locations was horrible, so I used grid paper to make my own maps and keep notes on which items were where.

I know it's pretty close to a pen-and-paper RPG with modern accoutrements. I have a notebook and pen right here so I'll see how it goes.

Sunless Sea I could definitely see keeping notes on. That game is absolutely dense with prose and details.

I mean, I've been shitting on him for years because I think he's overrated as hell, but I don't feel like giving him crap during this time in his life is helpful.

I refrained from doing a bunch of shopping today, only ordering a new computer chair and a couple of things I was going to be purchasing anyway.

...Even if the reason I didn't spend money today was because I spent it last week... that's still a win, right?

    right

like it's possible for a person to be kind of an asshat in general

I think too many people conflate assholishness for malevolence.

Kanye isn't a societal ill, nor is he a truly bad person (Take Steve Bannon, for instance). The human tradition of dogpiling on successful people when they slip is still alive and well.

I have a feeling it's not going to go away until we either evolve or die out.

    Steam sale goodies:

    Divinity: Original Sin
The Witcher 3 with both expansions

    And... well, that's it.

I'm fairly excited, though. I've heard they're both pretty d great, but for different reasons.

I was craving some old-school RPG goodness and open world exploration and this just seemed to fit the bill.

    Yes both are excellent

Have a notebook ready for divInity

Also definitely throw down oil and then a fireball

Divinity is that hardcore that I need to write stuff down?

I haven't even played an RPG that needed that since I stopped MUDding.

    (Yesssss!)

It's got a quest log, I haven't had to write anything down.

Don't be afraid to sneak and steal everything that's not nailed down

And you can have one person talk to someone to turn them around, then switch to another character and use them to steal everything.

Also the first NPCs you can get are a melee person and a water/lightning wizard, so plan character builds appropriately.

Divinity is great, though we haven't gotten past act 1 yet in my GF and I's co-op playthrough.

i really hope the writing in Divinity II is better

the writing in Divinity Original Sin killed it for my wife and I

we enjoyed the combat and the co-op stuff and the dialogue, all of that was super awesome

the game's plot was awful though so we tapped out and didn't finish it

It's SO good in co-op. I love the rock-paper-scissors conflict resolution mechanic for conversations. :)

After 11 Final Fantasy games with horrible writing (and one with good writing), I think I'm immune.

    Also, Call of Honorduty.

    And... well, D3.

Hell, one of my favorite games for writing lately was Doom, since it didn't fiddle about with anything other than fuckshitup, and in the end the result was a tight (if nearly non-existant) story.

The plot is hella bad. But there was humor throughout, and it's one of those "whole experience is greater than the sum of the parts", especially if you are going through it in co-op.

Please, if there's anything extended development sessions have proven time and time again, it's that it will be disjointed and mediocre with a killer trailer and the polarized reviews will eventually even out the score on Metacritic to what it should've been in the first place.

It can be bad, depending on the branch and (even moreso) depending on the type of unit you're in.

My 1SG always repeated the mantra "The pain doesn't go away when you take the uniform off for the last time, both here and here" (*pointing to body and head*) and would actively encourage people to seek help, even if they were marginal.

He told us he had a young soldier under his leadership when he was a SGT who he pushed because that was the culture, but the soldier went to Iraq and killed himself when he came home. I guess that shit dug in deep with him.

The co-op in Divinity Original Sin is really good. The co-op dialogue stuff is frickin' great, playing it with a good friend or significant other is a blast.

Especially when you try to initiate a romance dialogue with your wife and she fuckin' shuts you down hard because your characters have been having constant condescending arguments up to that point why on Earth would should be okay with that.

"YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE" is the laziest fucking writing trope and video game writers in particular need to ease the fuck up on it.

The very fact that you can disagree on your conversation options, but the game also provides a resolution mechanic for it that quickly resolves is friggin' awesome. There are definitely lessons to be learned in terms of NPC interaction and flow here.

You know, those things never really bugged me. I've always been someone who enjoyed character interaction more.

Maybe this explains my unhealthy love of the MCU.
