It helped me find out that the skate park near me is now a Horsea nest. So it prevented me from having to waste my time to go and find out. But yeah the rural folks get the shaft (again).

So is the Sightings list completely gone now? I don't see it anymore.
Are you on the eastern part of the country? Under the new tracking system, sightings vanish when you're out of range of a Pokestop.
Yeah, it's stupid and sucks.
All I have is the Nearby (which are the Pokestop ones) but not the Sightnings (which should be the Pokemon around me). The Nearby is nice, but I'd like to have both. You're saying that Sightings disappears when I am not around a Pokestop?
Yuuuuuuuuup.
Why the crap did I ever make my original name "cloudeagle?"
I'm pretty sure Sightings was just showing the Pokemon that display in Nearby now here recently even before they rolled out Nearby to everyone. Because I had been seeing all kinds of stuff spawning and rarely showing up in the Sightings list for a couple of weeks at least.

Nah, sightings was showing immediate vicinity (basically one paw print in the original release, maybe even a smaller radius than that). I've gotten things that were several blocks away with this while the pokemon spawning right in front of me don't even show up now in the tracking. It's pretty bad. Especially when all the pokestop pokemon are pidgys and weedles and garbage pokemon anyways.
I am sooooo pissed right now. I want to uninstall the game so bad. We finally had a 1700 CP Dragonite spawn nearby. I gave him a ton of berries and hit him with 30 yellow balls (I missed with 20 probably) and he ran away. I was only able to "nice" him with the spin ball since he is so far away. My wife didn't get him either, she doesn't use the spin ball. I wouldn't mind him running away, but it took us a long time to amass all those balls we just wasted. #%*&(@ %@#&*()%@# % @#%(*@%) you Dragonite.

The new tracking would be fine if you could have it only show rare Pokemon. I don't care that a Pokestop 2 blocks over has 3 pidgeys and a rat, I'm not going there. I might care that a Pokestop 3 blocks away has a charmander or whatever.
I do prefer the new sightings to what we had before which was absolutely worthless. The biggest Pokémon hotspot near me is the YMCA. There are so many Pokémon by that building that the game slows down as they spawn. The sightings is limited to 9 Pokémon, but when I was there 15 appeared. I need to pay attention to see which ones are listed and which ones weren't to see if it lists them alphabetically, Poke number, or distance from the Pokestop. I know the Dratini that I caught wasn't in the list, but he was one of the furthest from the stop.
Looks like the latest update stripped spawns on military bases again. I could count on getting a spawn every 30 minutes. haven't seen a spawn now for days.

Yeah the Air Force Museum just had their spawns wiped, but stops remained. It sucks real bad but I get it. I wish Niantic wasn't held accountable if someone walked into the wrong area.
I bothers me that they'd add more when a massive part of their app is still hot garbage and in many ways far worse than when they first rolled it out
Gained since launch:
Server stability
Events
Walking for candy (when it actually works)
Lost since launch:
decent tracking
playing while on transport
several gyms and stops (at least in my area)
damn near all ability to play without spending $texas (in rural areas)
ability to consistently spin a pokestop while motionless due to GPS snafu
STILL shitty, made shittier, or not implemented:
GPS
item / egg / tracking filters
trading
pokemon rotation (if this has been implemented it's on a very small scale)

This is legit the reason I have largely stopped playing (I boot it up every so often but rarely see anything worthwhile). They've only been making things worse since launch, outside of stability fixes. Tracking is still the big one for me. When all the tracking sites still worked, it was actually still fun because I could find pokemon and go there. Now if it's not already right on top of me, it's impossible. The new tracking doesn't even let me see what's right on top of me, only that there is a pidgey at the pokestop 10 minutes away. Ooo boy.
The other big one was disabling everything over a certain speed, which plays into GPS being garbage and pinging me all over fast enough to trigger this when I am in fact standing still.
I dunno, I'm not even excited for Gen 2 pokemon at this point.
Gym/stop removal isn't their fault though. If someone writes/calls and complains they have to get rid of them.
And what do you mean by Pokemon rotation?
Maybe he means nest rotations? Or the lack of non-nest rotations? Like, how you will most likely never see a certain pokemon in your area that is rare.
@Warlock82@Xaquin you're both in rural areas, aren't you? The GPS being garbage has never been a problem for me in Ohio.
I just wish they'd remove the speed requirement and the "I'm a passenger" button. Let people get into wrecks. It's their own fault if they're playing while driving.

Um there's nest migrations that occur every 2 weeks? There was one that happened this week, in fact.

Not rural per se, but suburban. I don't see the dirge of spawns that the big cities do. There used to be an ok number at my work, but they have since decided to re-ban spawns at military bases
And by the nest rotation, I was just guessing maybe he didn't like that, I dunno. Non-nest rotation I meant spawns that weren't part of a nest. Like, how eevees are super common everywhere here, but I almost never, ever see machops. That has not changed.

Gotcha. I see what you're talking about.
You can always keep a close eye on: https://thesilphroad.com/home, and check the nests near you. Hopefully someone around you had gotten around to locating/marking nests for you. Ohio's pretty active on PokemonGo so I can load it up and see all of the rare pokemon nests within 30 miles of my house.

Oh I know where the nests are around me. But many are fairly far away, or not in great locations (i.e. private golf courses, one is deep inside a forested park full of spiders... No thanks). I have visited some near me in the past (for awhile I was walking a trail near a big lake which I enjoyed), but most get rotated to garbage common pokemon. That lake trail for example is now meowths, which, after Halloween I have a million of. (But also it's cold now so anything I can't hit from a parking lot I likely won't bother with, which is very few of them)
...You have a spider forest near you? That should be a clear sign to GTFO of that state! Holy crap that sounds terrifying.
Haha, the worst part? For a long time, that was our charmander nest. I never went myself but people on our local reddit were complaining about how awful the trail was and how it was full of spiders.

Problem is that if someone gets into a wreck while playing, they can sue Niantic for "making" them get into the wreck. It's stupid, but the cost of the defense (even if it's a 100% sure thing) is often more than simply taking a settlement for a few tens of thousands dollars and walking away.

I'm sure that's what happened and why there's restrictions on speed.

Yeah, 100% it's because people are dumbasses and this is a legal butt covering thing. Still, sucks for legit players. Honestly though, if it was *just* that and the other parts of the game worked better (particularly GPS drift), I could live with it. I still don't get how Google Maps can have stable GPS but in Pokemon I am ping-ponging all over the place...

If it has happened in my area, it hasn't been done with new pokemon since .... I can remember. even the halloween even just brought many more of pokemon that had previously been there in low quantities.

I would believe this except for the fact that car stereos, gauges, cigarette lighters, cup holders, and now even screens and usb are all standard in cars and are equally or more complex than moving a single finger to the left or right for half a second.

I'm 20 miles south of DC and last time I actually checked, it took me 1.2 MILES to rack up a kilometer. That was admittedly a couple months ago, but based on the fact that I can be standing still and suddenly fly across the road and back, I'm going to guess it still isn't fixed.
which is another huge pain in the ass when trying to get pokestops
GPS drift will always be a thing regardless of where you are. Keeping line of sight with the sky is the most you can do to mitigate it. Niantic just needs to not penalize us for it when it happens.

Isn't the Gen 2 Pidgey, Pidgey? I know Hoothoot was added then but in game it wasn't as common iirc.
