Laptop issues after replacing battery

My wife's HP elitebook 4870P gave her a low battery warning and then stopped working. I replaced the battery and was able to only charge the laptop through the docking station. Also when using the docking station the video is bad (stretched to one side). I believe something is physically wrong with the motherboard, but I cannot find the specific issue on google.

I do recall when searching for the battery issue someone noting their computer was damaged when the low battery warning came on and stayed on for a while.

Any other ideas before I spend $$ on a replacement motherboard?

It might be better to just save up and replace the laptop.
