    there needs to be a huge incentive to builders to actually build low cost homes. No one wants to build $100,000 homes anymore because there's no money in it. Building cost alone is going to eat up 2/3 of that.

    hmm now I'm just mulling house market economics

    so if the supply of new houses was low because of [reasons] while area demand was high, and fluidity is low (people mostly staying in their houses) then the price for any house goes up

    they go high enough that people with shit houses sell them for good house prices and move into mcmansions instead

    so maybe it's not so much that everyone is house poor but there's a class of people with normal-ass middleclass jobs who won the housing lottery

    they don't see a problem because they can afford their 750k 5 bed monster on their 100k a year combined incomes, but only because they got like 500k in value on their old house out of thin air?
