Now that MK8 finally has battle mode I don't know what I'd want out of MK9. Replay uploading coming back is what I'd like to see more than more DLC.

Yeah, I miss uploading MK TV as well. The fact that it's still a part of Deluxe but you can't upload videos makes me think uploading will be a part of the paid service.

My hope is it will be a more robust feature if that happens. It'd be nice to upload videos longer than 30 seconds.

Once Nintendo unlocks he ability to record video on Switch, that should alleviate the replay upload issue.

If they just keep bringing back/adding new characters, tracks, and God help us, maybe a few more options to MK8DX, I'd be good.

Which Rainbow Roads are we missing? SC, DD, DS and 7 I think. So that's one retro cup taken care of.

Maz, what the hell did you hit me with at the third lap of that Mute City race? I had my banana out and my ass just blew up for no reason.

Green shell, it hit you on the side so the banana didn't protect you against it.

It was 100% intentional, but I'll probably never pull a shot like that off in a crucial moment to win a race ever again.

Counterpoint: at at least three separate occasions tonight, the following script played out in the last ten seconds of the race:

Kupi: "I'm not first, but at least I'm going to finish ahead of Maz."
    Maz: passes Kupi

Well, okay, but those times it happened because other people hit you or I got lucky with three mushrooms in the last item box before the finish line. Only once did I do a nasty MLG pro 360 noscope shot with a green shell.

Sorry I've missed the Wednesday night tourney the last few weeks, older daughter has had swim meets I had to attend until like 11:00 PM. Ugh. Swim meets are the worst.

BUT, swim season is over now, so hopefully next week it'll be back to business as usual.

For anyone with younger kids (around 6), what control method do you find tends to work better for them? I'm wondering if it is worth getting the wheel shells when I pick this up to play with my daughter.

  • homogenizedhomogenized Registered User regular
Not exactly younger kids, but Mario Kart 8 my non-game-playing cousins were better able to grasp steering their kart/bike with a wheel than with a control stick (they kept over-steering when they tried). Also remember MK8 Deluxe has steering assist and auto accelerate to help younger players.

I did not know it had those features, that is awesome. She's played some on the WiiU, but tends to over steer, so that could be a big help!

yeah, my not-quite-3 year old was watching my wife and I play the other day and kept asking to play...I put both of those on and handed him the controller; he essentially did absolutely nothing with it, but the kart was moving and going in more or less the right direction and he had a blast. in the hands of a kid that actually understood what was happening, I'd assume they'd be a big help in doing decently most races.

My 4-year-old (almost 5) prefers to use the analog stick instead of motion controls for steering, and she does a pretty damn good job at it, so it's certainly possible for younger kids to not need the wheel thing. She does use steering assist, but honestly rarely needs it.

That was my experience. I was excited that they could use the wheels I bought and found my oldest of 3 kids just ended up using the stick anyway. It's great to have the option for both (and the stick still works in motion-control mode).

Yeah, I did to Amazon to leverage the prime discount as well. Getting it for $24~ was worth it. I had never fully unlocked everything on the Wii U version, I just broke it out when friends came over so I didn't feel like I was losing much.

I meant to reply to this earlier but Wednesday seems to be dying. Nobody last week and two of us this week. I'm going to miss next week's but I've set it back to 150cc/normal items for now. My plan is to try to keep it going as long as some people still show up.

Unfortunately the fact that I get home usually right when it starts means I'm most likely not in the mood. Plus I was off last week and waited about 5-10 minutes in the lobby before leaving.
