It makes me really happy to hear that you do regular rock climbing at a local gym because there's a climbing gym 15-20 min from me and I just have not put in the effort to go regularly, despite really enjoying the activity. Its a real sad point that I just cannot get myself to go.
Some of it is work related (don't get home until post 7pm) but I really should get over it.
For me part of the appeal is that it's the only physical activity that I've ever found that I go to enthusiastically and don't have to force myself to go--also helps that it is a 5 min walk from my office.
It definitely involves losing a lot of free time that evening. Get out of work at 6, climb for maybe 2.5 hours, metro home, it's past 9 already, still have to eat and want to also play a game or two of league and that is the evening right there, no household maintenance is going to happen, going to end up going to sleep way too late as well. But the happiness benefits are worthwhile for me. Maybe it would help to find some bros who go regularly and will pester you about it? I am very lucky that my friend from Boston who moved to DC happens to do this activity and was looking for more people to climb with.
