Song lyric or just crazy?

Ken OKen O Registered User regular
So my son is 5. Every time I would put him in the seat of a shopping cart I would death metal growl, "tonight we ride, tonight riiiiiide." He's heard it enough that last night when he couldn't sleep I took him for a car ride. As I'm strapping him into the car seat he's singing it to me.

I've realized I don't actually know if this is a lyric to a real song or I just like yelling in supermarkets. I didn't think I had just made it up, but I can't actually remember where I had heard it before.

Ha! While highly enjoyable I was thinking of something heavier.

Thank you. That's not it, although it is the style I was thinking of.
It is entirely possible I made it up in my head.

Only one I can think of is Stonecreep. And that's probably not it (refrain starts at 1:30).

There is a speed metal version of 99 luftballoons that apparently only exists in my mind. It drove me crazy trying to find it. (Derived from the Pennywise Goldfinger cover, as far as I've been able to determine).

    Edit: Not Pennywise.

Maybe 7 Seconds version? It's always been a personal favorite of mine.

No, that's got less angry than this:

And that lacks the intensity of my headcannon. It's not real, I've looked long and far.

(Didn't mean to start a tangent, just throwing some support behind the possibility of your having accidentally composed a rocking cover! It's a thing I find I do a lot given enough time having heard the originating track.)

I've had one song in my head for years that I don't know what it was. It's a kinda up beat slow temp beach song (in my head at least) with the lines "And I get high/And I get low-oh-oh. I'm surrounded by these people that I don't know-oh-oh". I swore I heard it in the summer of 09, like when Bruno Mars came out but... Nothing.

We all seem to make up stuff but never realized we did.

I have enjoyed every song suggestion posted. I really think I made it up now.

I told a co-worker about it this morning and he's sure he's heard it. Now he's looking too. I'm dragging more and more people into my madness.

Absolutely. The way I hear it in my head is mostly growled, so it could be something that sounds similar.

Big stretch perhaps as it's not death metal but Blue Oyster Cult's song This Ain't the Summer of Love has 'the night we ride' as part of the refrain, perhaps yours is a cover of it?

    Lets establish some baselines.

On a scale from Les Claypool (1) to Tom Waits: (5)

    https://youtu.be/dxiLXiWRqQs

They both sing a similar line in the chorus. (Or at the end? I can't listen at the moment, and it's been a while)

Where does the voice in your head land on Pitch, and.. gravelyness?

Probably a 4. Gravely but not 100% cookie monster. Almost yelling.
I didn't know you could sing to spotify, I'll try it.

This probably isn't specifically helpful but its a thing among metal and hardcore vocalists to write lyrics that have a lot of long "iiiii" vowel sounds because its an easy vowel to growl that always sounds metal as hell. Riiiiiiise is another cliche. So I don't doubt there exists a whole bunch of songs with those lyrics.

Sounds like sheryl crow:winding road, with some miss-heard lyrics?

Could the op be tonight we rise like the previous poster suggested?

No, it's a guy that sings it. It's some sort of hip hop/pop song with a beach feel, like Bruno Mars when he first came out. Again, I might be crazy.

If it's beach pop, it's either Jack Johnson or Jason Mraz

I'm sorry for thread resurrection but I had to post this. After this thread I had assumed the "Tonight we ride, tonight we ride!" song was a figment of my imagination.

So I'm driving the family down towards Disney to check out some gingerbread houses and I had Pandora shuffling my stations. As I'm cursing the traffic a song comes on and I finally hear it. The song that has eluded me for two years. I'm laughing hysterically and my wife thinks she is witnessing the moment that I've finally cracked.

Anyway, it was "Said the King to the River" by La Dispute. Not death metal but certainly yelled/screamed. It's also only said a few times at the beginning of the song which probably made it harder to remember.

Anyway, I'm sorry if this breaks any of the rules I just wanted to share the story.

I'm always glad to see this kind of bump, considering my own 2+ year song-related insanity. :)
