In a country like South Korea without any protections for LGBT people and widespread opposition to gay acceptance, shit
for queer folks. Honestly it's pretty depressing reading. But in the last couple of years there's been a surprising number of queer themed Korean pop songs and music videos.
Unlike much of Korea's typically conservative and religious culture, Kpop tends to be very cosmopolitan, borrowing liberally from Western culture as well as from Japan, both of which are much more accepting of LGBT identities. Kpop also tends to reflect the values of its core fanbase, those in their teens and 20s - and young Koreans are far, far more accepting of LGBT folks, as high as 70% in favor of cultural acceptance of homosexuality and gay rights in some polls. The traditionalist conservative refusal to acknowledge that queer people even exist is facing increasing pressure, especially after the US legalized gay marriage nationwide in 2015. Korean gay pride organizations have been growing by tens of thousands every year and young Koreans are increasingly agitating for queer visibility and equality. Shit still sucks, but there's a lot of hope for things getting better now, something that would've sounded unimaginable only a decade ago.
So this has led to an interesting dynamic where many of the typical traits of the kpop industry - ultra-corporate, older producers with complete power over younger artists, always afraid of even a hint of controversy - has shifted surprisingly quickly. Most of the popular kpop artists themselves are in their 20s, and even many producers are only in their 30s, and artists are increasingly interested in exploring and supporting queer themes in their own works, or even hinting - sometimes blatantly - to their own minority status.
I was compiling this list as part of my own research project anyway, so might as well share. I'm excluding videos that are blatantly only about fanservice, that are only tenuously linked to queer themes, or songs that can be interpreted as queer only because of rumors around the artist themselves. That still leaves a surprisingly long list though.
IU - PeachWhy's it Not Gay?: IU claimed it's supposed to be written from a male perspective
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: It's a song about a woman struggling to explain her attraction - and how it's not just a schoolgirl crush - to another woman who already has a boyfriend. She even said who it's about,
Sulli, a previous member of F(x).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9uT393YbeQRed Velvet - Wish TreeWhy's it Not Gay?: Just a perfectly ordinary song about a couple of close friends wishing they weren't single on Christmas.
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: It's about a gay girl with an unrequited crush on her straight friend realizing it'll never happen, despite all their straight-girl skinship.
https://youtu.be/nTYYYor2ZfwGLAM - Party (XXO)
This song's just a straight up attempt at a queer anthem. It practically pukes glitter.
Random Weird Trivia: GLAM broke up after one of the singers was arrested in a blackmail plot where she tried to get 5 million bucks from an actor in exchange for a suggestive video they entrapped him into! She did a year in jail!
https://youtu.be/QF0DdwxbhBkMad Clown - Love is a Dog from HellWhy it's Not Gay?: The lyrics themselves are just about having a bad breakup and feeling attacked.
Yeah but it's Really Gay Queer, Right?: The video is about a couple trying to stay together after the boy begins to transition, making the lines about feeling attacked much more laden.
Random Trivia: The video stars Mad Clown's otherwise non-actor brother, it's never really been clear if that's just nepotism in casting or a personal message.
https://youtu.be/t1851Vm7-owSistar - One More DayWhy it's Not Gay?: The lyrics themselves are just a non-gendered breakup song.
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: The video is about a love triangle between a couple of girls and an abusive boyfriend.
https://youtu.be/E4TygUpWUTQMonsta X - All InWhy it's Not Gay?: Lyrics are just a love song to a girl, and the video itself is just another boy's band mishmash of weird dystopian YA novel plots.
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: Two boys give flowers to each other, are beat up by military villains, take their revenge and then (maybe?) commit suicide in a bathtub together. YA elements to the side, it's purposefully evoking a lot of tensions for gay men who are drafted into the SK military, where homosexuality is illegal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNxPGbk-gwANell - The Day BeforeWhy it's Not Gay?: It's about a friend who committed suicide after a bad breakup.
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: Sadly, yes. It's from a concept album, and the previous songs make it clear that the singer broke up with his boyfriend because of his own self-loathing for being gay. At some point later his ex then filmed himself committing suicide. It's probably based on the real life of one of the band members, but the band won't comment on it.

Uhh this song is just straight up about bringing girls home from the club and having oral sex. Oh, also those flowers are lilies, in Japanese "yuri," just in case that wasn't clear enough.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUyRuyB01VoK. Will - Please Don'tWhy it's Not Gay?: It's just so sad to feel like you're losing your best friend to married life! (seriously people argue this)
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: Rather than a cheap surprise twist, the video purposefully makes it confusing over who he's heartbroken over as a way of illustrating the double lives that many gay men in Korea have to maintain. The shots of them together in the car also suggest that they really were together to some degree, rather than just an unrequited crush.

4Minute - Whatcha Doin' Today? Why it's Not Gay?: Hey the lyrics are just about getting out of your house and hanging out with friends and having fun!
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: The video pretty clearly suggests "fun" is going to clubs, getting high, and having casual sex with someone of any gender.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBTTCzCZu8cMamamoo - Um Oh Ah YeahWhy it's Not Gay?: Just a wacky case of mistaken gender and funny crossdressing!
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: After the girl finds out the cute boy is really a girl it goes right back into the chorus, maintaining that she is still her ideal type. Plus those two girls have been rumored to actually be dating ever since they debuted.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFuJAIMQjHkMamamoo - Girl CrushWhy it's Not Gay?: It's about being a cool, confident person, the type of person that inspires a "girl crush."
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: When asked what the song was about, a member answered, "Just what it says, it's about having a crush on a girl."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VqixYI3rKAEXO - PlayboyWhy it's Not Gay?: Nono, it's talking about BEING a playboy! Yeaaaah!
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: C'mon, it's a song about seducing a hot guy and how it'll be their little secret. And the lyrics were written by Jonghyun, who's not even part of their band, but IS rumored to be dating one of their members.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3ie1dyNvIMBTS - The Cypher mixtape, pt. 3.Why it's Not Gay: Three of BTS's rappers just put out a mixtape where they brag about being awesome.
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: Well most of it's not, but Suga, whose rap starts around 3:00 in, has publicly said he doesn't consider gender in who he dates, and in this rap he brags about his ability to make both boys or girls cum. His fellow members have spoken publicly and strongly in favor of gay rights.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjiHgd_iyKI9Muses - Sleepless NightWhy it's Not Gay?: The lyrics are about regretting a breakup or an old friend, and wondering where "I can find a good man like you."
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: The music video makes the lyrical subtext text, the singer thought she was crazy to be attracted to a woman, tried to be straight, and is now realizing she's not happy with men.

Planet Shiver - Rainbow
This one is more a general call for acceptance of people excluded by Korean society - a gay couple, a disabled woman, a biracial man, etc.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtYXQKGt3Ho2NE1 - CrushWhy it's Not Gay?: Well, it's not really that gay. It's mostly just bragging about how cool they are.
Yeah but it's Really Gay, Right?: Not really, but some of their braggadocio is based on how much their female fans want them.

Eastern Range is open for business again, SpaceX performed a static fire today in anticipation of a launch on Monday August 14th
Commercial Resupply Service mission to the International Space Station, so we're launching a Dragon!
Easy-peasy lift for the Falcon, so it'll be able to make a landing pad landing attempt
NASA launch so we'll get all the best camera angles, should be a lot of fun to watch!
I'll keep y'all posted as the date approaches, but coming back from the summer break at the Eastern Range with a Dragon Launch is a pretty sweet way to start a busy second half of the year for SpaceX!
Should have a Falcon Heavy launch at some point this year, and maybe even a Dragon 2 demo flight???
Either way, SpaceX is looking for 10-12 launches for the rest of the year, so it should be a busy schedule down at the Cape and over in Vandenberg on the West Coast

Also your KDR would be 10:0 which is invalid, not 10:infinity which would indicate that you get ten kills per infinite deaths
WHAT'S THAT ON THE FIVE DAY FORECAST
That's what this was.
You can't just copypaste a new op in just on a whim
We have standards here p10 you can't just go back to a completed work and change it up after the fact this isn't Star Wars peetin
That we also make them go live in a specific place
That's probably something we can eventually abolish
Like, for Americans I see the value of the White House as an office building and a centralized workplace for the executive branch, of course
But I don't know if the President needs to live there
Meanwhile, I'm actually drawing a blank on the address of where our PM is supposed to live, which perhaps shows how unimportant the Prime Minister's Official Residence really is :P
meanwhile in Norway:
*sob*
Ehhh if something happens in the middle of the night and the President has to be in the Situation Room, it's probably better if they don't have to be driven there from their apartment or whatever. Plus I imagine it makes security much easier to handle.
Like, if it wasn't already that way, I don't know that I'd be like "THE PRESIDENT SHOULD LIVE IN THE WHITE HOUSE", but since it's already that way, I guess I don't see why it needs to be changed. Mostly it just seems like additional hassle, both initially and ongoing.
like us you probably provide it mostly from a "well it is reasonable to provide accomodations for a job you might just have for four years when you're not from anywhere near here"
the only notable thing about the norwegian prime minister's residence is that it is in the Incognito Street which is only very mildly notable
EDIT: but it's also because the office of the prime minister is like, an actual office, which the white house isn't. You have government hall, in which the governor-general does live. We have the palace, where the king lives. Same thing.
From a security perspective the answer is yes, he does need to live there.
