That's standard twitter/conservosphere procedure at this point. See the Canadian mosque shooting.

    Standard response is:

    1. It was random brown person that was 'real' shooter.
    2. It was false flag operation/made up.
    3. Shooter was secret liberal the whole time.

I feel totally desensitized to this.

My first reaction to this news was to be snarky and sarcastic. Maybe it's because I just can't fully comprehend it? I don't know. I walked into the break room at work this morning and everybody was watching video footage like it was reality tv. It didn't phase them.

How did we let ourselves come to this? How is this normal? God, we are so sick.

My first reaction to this was: nothing will change. It will be too soon to talk about it until it's too late to talk about it.

Holy flying fuck. My mom just called to let me know that my dad and aunt and uncle are alright. My dad was staying at the same hotel that the shooter shot from and my aunt and uncle were at the concert. They evacuated the hotel in a super rush, so my dad doesn't have his medication or his breathing machine and hasn't slept all night.

I'm almost physically sick right now, and that's after finding out they're okay.

There is 100% no way terrorism is ruled out if this is a black or brown or especially Muslim shooter. The term has become racial code. A man shot 50 civilians in a public place in a manner that would inspire terror. There is no way they've investigated this motives in a way that could rule out terrorism other than his melanin count

I will not link his tweets regarding Orlando because of the rule about linking old trump tweets here, but I think we all remember the braggart, "I told you so" tone of that shit, where he took a victory lap for his racist bullshit while bodies were still warm.

And now, we get this milquetoast response? Fuck you, buddy.

Remember when an Arab man shot up a gay nightclub last year when that was the deadliest mass shooting in American history and also terrorism

Odds he will dedicate a golf trophy to the victims next weekend?

I really have no words for this. I just don't anymore. It's tragic, and sad, and frustrating, and most of all infuriating. I don't want to hear Louis Gohmert say again that if the entire population was armed a guy shooting from a hotel room wouldn't have been able to kill 50+ people. I don't want to hear United States senators say "It's too soon" to talk about gun control and complaining about "politicizing a tragedy". I don't want to hear about how white men killing so many people, often for political/racial/religious motivations, isn't terrorism. I don't want hear about an incident with 60, or 75, or 100, or 1 victim next year.

I want this country's leadership to fucking do something about it.

Well, terrorism depends on motive, for the real definition of the term and not just being a racial codeword.

They can't reasonably say they don't have the motive and say it's not terrorism at the same time, though.

Apparently the suspect was what we'd consider rich, because he owned two planes and lived in an upscale resort retirement home with an 18 hole golf course.

Honestly, the more I learn about this the less it makes sense.

I mean, the money thing lines up with the kind of weaponry used.

Someone poor doesn't have the kind of funding needed to secure a high floor hotel room in Vegas and fill it with over a dozen riles and a fully automatic weapon with hundreds of rounds.

But what could the motivation possibly be?

I really, really hate how every political figure in American life is now schooled on how to show sympathy without committing to actually doing anything after one of these.

They've got canned responses, like they're responding to the results of a football game in their district or something.
I'm tempted to write a Twitter bot that auto-replies to canned sympathy comments with the number of times they introduce gun control laws, and voted for/against such legislation.

I'm pretty sure there already is one of these.

This is a fundamentally unsatisfying answer, but sometimes some people want to do terrible things.

I hope there's more to it than that, but it might wind up that there isn't.

Wingnuttery, conspiracy theories, and extremism are at a fever pitch right now. It's a fevered, unrestrained, rabid beast that is running through our country whispering its trigger phrase to 10,000 Manchurian candidates programmed by infowars and Fox News.

It makes perfect fucked up sense once you're through the looking glass.

We just had a group of white terrorists hold a federal compound for what was it, weeks? More than a day. Now they're getting off on all charges one by one. The sickness is the norm.

As true as everything you said is, I am semi-hesitant to ascribe any ideology to the shooter until it gets investigated.

Because we have a lot of noise on the left that our president is an incompetent, self-enriching criminal who colluded with hostile foreign governments to destroy our democracy. And no matter how true you (or I lets be fair) think those statements are a less stable person mentally could be brought to violence with that kind of stuff in their head.

Or this person could really love Jodie Foster.

Or brain tumor, as mentioned above.

It is way too early to try and politicize (or diminish) the why. It is exactly the right time to figure out "how" and make sure this shit can't happen again and fuck anyone who says otherwise.

This assumes the shooter falls into that category.

We've assumed shooter motivations before and come up wrong before. It seems likely he might be in what you describe, but then again maybe not.

But yeah, America's got a problem. I'm just not ascribing it to this event yet because there isn't enough information to confirm it yet.

There's wingnuttery on the left too and it can be just as deadly and it's on the rise as well. Yes I leaned into my personal beliefs there but I still think it's the case. Brain tumors may make you do things like lose impulse control but the evil was still there. You don't get an automatic weapon on a whim.
