Nested comments are good when you're posting to get validation from communities who agree with you. And I love validation

Its also beside the point when all you are doing is browsing r/aww for pictures of cute kittens to start the day.

So, PopeHat brought the Parler (right-wing Twitter) legal copy out

    https://legal.parler.com/documents/guidelines.pdf

    holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

If I even submitted this to my team, I would immediately be fired as in-house counsel, and honestly wouldn't be surprised if I got a letter from the state bar

    Holy shit.
Terrorist organizations officially recognized by the United States are forbidden from using Parler. Support or marketing for any terrorist organization on Parler will result in a ban.
That's an amazing broad sweep considering that there is no actual "antifa" organization, so basically any time someone says "hey, be nice to others" it could be labeled as pro-antifa messaging and result in a ban.

"Officially recognized" is the key there. Despite bluster, Trump can't and hasn't designated "antifa" or "BLM" as terrorists.

(Do I expect them to notice that distinction? no. It's a right wing site I expect them to ban you for not following their orthodoxy with whatever excuse is convenient today. Kinda like how "I was banned from /r/conservative" was a running reddit joke for a while)

Huh. I have had reddit written off as a site I would never go to for a while now. I still won't go often, I never did anyways, but now I don't care as much about clicking links to it or whatnot. Good news!

I'm mean I'll never frequent reddit because nested comments has been garbage as a board format since the 90s and it will never, ever, not be that.

But I'm also surprised and incredibly pleased that it seems like they're taking steps to at the very least make the content of their site less terrible if not the format in which it's presented :P

Reddit is useful sometimes because frequently the main reddit for a game is the defacto official forum for said game. So it can be a useful resource. Having to deal with Reddit's garbage interface and structure to get to that information is always the worst though. Just the dumbest design ever.

There wasn’t enough incremental lift in users or monetization for the proposed efforts to improve it

If enough people will use shit, shit is what they’ll get

I mean....you know this, I gave a bad and very reddit reply and it should be downvoted

To add to that, in order to be designated as a terrorist organization, there needs to be a foreign component. So if something is essentially completely domestic, it can't be designated as a terrorist organization, which has been a sore spot for some because it's a big reason why some domestic white supremacist groups involved in violence haven't be designated as terrorist groups.

And the Parler goosery keeps getting "better":
Parler, which reportedly gained a half-million new users this month, banned a slew of people over the weekend, prompting CEO John Matze to clarify that a “few basic rules” will be enforced across the platform. Incidentally, four out of the five items listed by Matza, while prohibited on Parler, are more or less allowed on Twitter. These include pornographic images, usernames containing “obscene” words, and repeatedly responding to people “with unrelated comments like ‘Fuck you’ in every comment.”

“Your Username cannot be obscene like ‘CumDumpster,’” Matze wrote, adding that telling people “Fuck you,” was “stupid.” “It’s pointless, Grow up,” he said. Matze also said that photos of poop “WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.”

I thought the best part was going to be that it was a Deadspin image/meme that all the Parler chuds wanted to post that caused so much issue, but then I got to the part where the CEO said Parler’s rules are in line with the Supreme Court’s and FCC’s rules about internet content, and that’s like a ::chefs kiss:: example of how stupid these dickheads are about their notion of free speech

Can't wait for them to burn up all their VC money and then loudly complain that the marketplace of ideas is stacked against conservatives. It couldn't be that people don't really want to do business with or give money to loud and proud Nazis in this moment in time. Heavens to Brunhilde!

Parler's a Trumpist site first and foremost. They're defining Trump's opinion as that of the US government for those kinds of purposes.

(Or if they want to get really into the sophistry they'll point out that there's at least one person outside of the US that doesn't like fascism therefore)
