The load times aren't much better, no, but let me tell you: Download speed left my original Xbox One choking on dust.

A 1 TB SSD costs more than half of the whole console. Also, neither Playstation 4 nor Xbox One makes terribly impressive use of one (that's a modded internal XB1) given how efficiently their operating systems work and their reliance on standby modes (which is a major point of SSDs).
The fact that there is some improvement with an ol' 5400 RPM drive is noteworthy, and that speaks to the hardware access times and so forth. For games that now load 80GB worth of textures coughGears of War 4cough, that's going to be needed.
DF's "Review" of the console is up, at this rate I might start dropping all of them into OP.
Goodness, the X draws a lot of power compared to the S.
More importantly, I think, the revelations about non X-patched games are really important, even more so than faster loading times: consistently better performance at 60 FPS (or 30 if limited to that), at 1080p--something the base PS4 and 'Pro do not always hit presently without patching either. The implication is that non Xbox One X-patched Doom hits 60 FPS at 1080p (upscaled?) now. Also, no 4K UI at the behest of developers wanting a bit more memory to work with. But as with the PSFro, the console without patching is potentially hamstrung by the modest CPU improvement (looking at you, Just Cause 3, you unoptimized comically-accented trainwreck you).
oh oh oh oh oh
and sad
I wish I could take credit for it.
I think this is never going to happen--and is even less likely than a JC3 visual upgrade patch (that doesn't do much about the serious performance problems on all consoles and most PCs).
Yeah, it sucks. At this rate I might as well wait for BC for Mercenaries 2.
If you need one, you may want to order from the Microsoft Store--and soon.
https://forzamotorsport.net/en-us/news/fm7_x1x_update
It will take all of Tuesday to download it so I won't actually touch it until Wednesday, but still, this is good news.
I don't have a 4k TV but at some point if I ever get one I could see maybe trading up to an X and not having to buy one of those stupid adapters will be a nice bonus.
I'm kinda surprised that MS isn't running another free adapater promo for like 3 months as there are definitely people upgrading from OG xbox ones to the X so they have a bunch of kinects out there still
Maybe gonna cancel my preorder on 1X until I can justify spending 500 smackers on a new xbox for me after buying that much in gifts + a flight home lol whoops
Dang do I want to the dumb thing and just get it anyways tho
Gigantic will still be supported by a skeleton team of Motigans that work for PWE (who, unlike Microsoft actually secretly acquired the whole company)
Where did you see that news about PWE closing Runic? This is super depressing, if true.
It's a discontinued product now, it's very easy to justify not doing so.
It seems to have just broken (Motiga's "redundancies" were mentioned earlier.):

Both they and Massively OP have the same statement:
http://massivelyop.com/2017/11/03/motiga-pwe-gigantic/
Apparently Quantum Break's Xbox One X patch is 178 gb with everything (everything means including the TV show portion).
(Source)
(The closures, not the file size. Though that's painful too.)
Runic seems to be zombie shell for PWE's portfolio. Sucks that Hob didn't drop on the xbox one, would have bought it. Torchlight 2 too. So it goes.
DF's stuff, or reviews in general?

Xbox One X reviews. I put two of them in the OP. I'll probably put Polygon's complete video up next....?
video at the bottom of this story.
The difficulty is that it's not going into another venue--for example, being a depth-sensing 3D camera like the original Kinect was for PC applications for a while--but being shuffled out entirely. I think. This was what was having to the Playstation 3 Move controllers prior to the launch of VR on the PS4--and when the inevitable replacement is finally introduced, then they will be removed entirely (that, or PSVR is going to be discontinued--let's hope for the former).
Basically, this is why we can't have nice things.
No, with a caveat: the "enhancement" for some games includes things like 4K texture packs. GOW4, Forza 7, Shadow of War, and others all include this. It also makes them huge, in the 100 GB range, to the point where you'd need to ship them on UHD discs (which wouldn't be readable on the launch console--that's honestly a possibility down the line, but certainly not going to happen now). This is a major difference between the XB1X "update" and the PSFro "update"--so far, no title on Sony's platform has included a major asset update, as far as I know, for 4K (in actuality ~1440p, there is no PSFro game that runs natively at 4K presently I think, and they are rare on XB1X).
Now if it just comes down to higher resolutions, some framerate adjustments, additional settings options, etc., (which are the "norm" for 4K updates on both platforms) those can all be included on the disc. They may be for future games, since they're literally just an additional set of instructions.
The normal procedure for those of us still being games on disc is to put in our disc, install it (as we still do--this isn't Steam, your console will actually read data though its optical drive), and then accept the option to download the huge additional patches if they're available. They aren't mandatory, and MS has previously alluded to offering the option to delete (or not download) any XB1X-related asset packs for those who're worried about internet caps, don't have much space (apparently the XB1X when people receive it has only about 780 GB of free space still left, after the updated OS and built-in apps), are playing on 1080p and don't care about supersampling, etc.
Ah. I've got this, and I found USgamer's to be good.

Yes, I'm real good at setting myself up for disappointment.
By default, you should not include any reviews that try to review what the console does on a non 4K television because they (as in Microsoft) literally said there's no real point in buying the console if you're not going to use it on a 4K TV and you'd be better served getting the One S. The exception being if you're planning on buying a 4K TV in the near future.
That Mario-hat one.... just... these are the cons:
- No offer for a free Kinect adapter... a thing that was known that it wouldn't have (which he acknowledges), and a product that is no longer being manufactured.
- No noticeable upgrade in sound on an HDTV? They used their TV speakers.
- Only a marginal improvement in visuals on an HDTV.
Why... ?
Plus I mostly want to just put in video reviews.
Honestly? I'm not entirely sure myself. I told them from the start that I don't have a 4K television, and they proceeded anyway (no complaints here). The questions even asked if the user has a 4K TV, do they were prepared for the possibility, and apparently my review was included in some kind of report.
So at that point it was like "well, okay then." I can only surmise that since they were boasting that even non-4K users would have an improved experience, that's what they were interested in seeing, and is what I told them my approach would be.

Haven't run into it yet, but possibly the service is getting overloaded--it could be unrelated but I've already downloaded ~200 GB worth of XB1X patches despite obviously not having one. I'm bracing myself from some service flickering, if not an outright outage.
I was having problems downloading those big patches until I did a hard restart, and that helped.
