The amazing part is how we have had multiple series-specific anime threads over the years which have been completely unobjectionable, and required far less moderation than Certain Other Threads.

And then the mods remember that they're alive and go, "Oh uh wait guys, sorry anime threads are too hard to moderate, we have to close this thread, you filthy perverts."

And somehow this obvious contradiction is never once noticed.

    The anime ban is stupid.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

Also, just how pervy were those anime threads?

The big issue the mods seem to have was people bring up loli content and then going "Well she's really a 5000 year old demon". So very pervy.

see also: anime, which we do almost exclusively because we can't, not because we have any great need to

The anime rule is just stupid anyway.

lol no it isn't. The threads got real fuckin creepy and you know it, sir.

Like what 7 years ago? How many times have we talked about how the forums have changed in just that short time. How YOU as a poster have changed.

All the dedicated show threads were fine.

The anime threads were given a lot of chances. Just like me. If I just showed up last week and had no baggage? My annoying moments wouldn't really be a blip on the radar for the most part. But that's not the case. History weighs us all down and our sins carry a cost

that said I'm not too thrilled with you using my reputation/struggle of self to make a point.

I'm using that as an example because you yourself post all the time. "Holy shit, don't look at what I posted back in 200X, that shit was awful". Obviously the boards have changed. And to pretend that they haven't is silly.
Of course they have, but again, if I fly off the handle or do something stupid I'm gone like that. They've only changed because of strict enforcement of behavior

I figure it is more the population that we shed by removing the threads was for the better and bringing them back might just be too much effort to keep that type of population out.

Honestly the mod team has done such a bang-up job of other-ing anime watchers (despite a sizable portion of the forums watching anime, at least casually)

That the real reason we can't have an anime thread is because any such thread would be immediately trolled into oblivion with shitposts by posters who think they're defending their forums against the filthy weebs.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

The nurse who got arrested for not drawing blood from the unconscious person in her ward got 500k settlement from the city.

Should have been more I think.

500k from the city, the cop is barred from being a cop ever again, and the state garnishes his wages until he pays back 500k.

Also he should lose access to any pension and benefits that were given under the police union.

Should be the boss as well. The one that told him to go ahead.

It should've been the freaking chief of police out on his ass as well.

Like, the cop on the ground was an asshole, but there's a version of reality where... Well, he'd still be an asshole, but at least he'd have a justifiable reason for what he was doing. According to his state's laws, he had a right to a blood draw, and the hospital didn't have the right to interfere. He was ignorant of a recent supreme court ruling that said actually no, we don't care what your state law is, in a case like that you don't have a right to a blood draw. And he didn't know that. And the hospital did.

But even so, he's just a low-level dude, they're not necessarily tracking supreme court rulings in their free time. I mean, they should be knowledgeable, especially since it's his job to draw blood and this is a major ruling about blood draws, but there's at least an excuse for him: He called his supervisor and asked what to do. The supervisor absolutely should've known what the law was, and he didn't either. So the rank-and-file guy gets told to get a blood draw or arrest whoever's stopping him, and that's what he does, because he thinks he's following the law and the hospital is breaking it, because his supervisor told him he was.

And why does the supervisor not know the law either? Because the Salt Lake City PD has no fucking legal advisory system in place to keep their department policies up to date with state and national law!

That might be excusable when it's some dinky little rural department where nothing ever happens anyway, or at least understandable, but this is a major city department! Almost all city PDs have a legal section who will update the police rulebook and send out memos about changes, or coordinate with larger departments who can advise them. Well run departments have regular classes and testing sessions of updated policies that cops have to complete before they go back out on duty. Badly run departments read them off in shift meetings, and if you're not working that day you're maybe out of the loop. But the Salt Lake City PD didn't even do that, they straight up had no bureaucratic method in place for changing department policies according to law changes.

So while the dude who did the actual arrest is still an asshole, it's not a rogue cop who caused this, it's downright negligent management who are now trying to get away with it. It would be a better solution to fire the supervisor and bosses than it would be to fire the asshole on the ground.

I agree with the sentiment that PDs should have good systems in place for advising their cops

On the other hand, each cop should take it upon himself to keep up with basic 4th Amendment rules and the exceptions that exist to those rules; if cops don't, they're the ones who might end up personally liable; likewise, it should be obvious to any halfway-decent cop that state laws do not matter whenever they purport to limit federal rights

And this case came down to a very fundamental rule that every cop should know by heart: It's usually illegal to forcibly seize evidence from a suspect without a warrant (and doubly illegal, as was the case here, to warrantlessly seize evidence from someone who is not even suspected of a crime!)

p.s. As far as I can tell, the on-point Supreme Court case that affirmed this fundamental rule in the context of blood-draws came out in 2013, so there is no excuse for a cop to be angrily demanding an illegal blood-draw 4 years later

The threads went very sour, to the point that there's a lasting bias against the (very very general sense!) type of posters that posted in anime threads. Which I totes understand, and I like a lot of anime. Is it too heavy-handed? Probably, but it's the forums' prerogative to not deal with problematic topics that regularly have to be monitored.

I actually thought the last remnant, the One Piece thread, was closed more recently but it was way back in Jan 2016. Simplier days.
