Launch C’Thun was never beaten on live servers. People got to him fairly quick, then he was “impossible” for whatever reason.
The night the C’thun nerfs went into place (after a rant that mimicked the lead designers rant about EQ) it was basically a race to kill the bastard.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
If I remember right it was impossible to outrun the eye beam with any lag and it instakilled everyone. Then a non American server got the patch first and some guild cleared it at like 3 AM while we were all staring at a maintenance screen or something.

Yeah I knew it was something about him putting obscene, unavoidable damage.
I had forgotten about the whole “whoops they got the patch first” part of it.

C thun was not as hard as the twin emps or the slime
The problem was when I did it with my warlock they had taken a lot of melee dps it was just me 2 other locks and 3 mages so the other Emperor was a pain.
The Slime was a whole other story. After this and the whole drama [no where near the train wreck of a guild's drama} We beat C thun much to our puzzlement It just clicked right. It was so bizarre that everyone did what they were supposed to do
Then the server transfer came the next week and that part of Pug 2.0 died
By the time your guild got to Cthun, it was heavily nerfed. And you had some Naxx gear by then to boot.
We did not do Naxx. We were geared in a mix of MC/BWL/ZG/aq20 and some aq 40 gear
This was toward the end of vanilla like a month or so before TBC came out
Yeah I thought it was unbeatable because it was obviously bugged and/or poorly implemented and the eyebeam just one shot everyone
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat

In patch 2.0 people were ludicrously overpowered for the content in the game.

It was a math problem. The eyebeam I forget, though that part is entirely possible, but the issue was in raid DPS output between tentacles and boss in a given amount of time. Given the people putting forth the claim, I'd buy it; the math was pretty solid, and assumed perfect execution if I recall. Really amounted to "We can do X theoretical potential, it requires Y theoretical potential; this is a problem."

I just know that Blizzard insisted it was absolutely fine and then when the rant got posted they caved in under a week with a patch saying "oh no this was a planned patch"

I think that just means that raid xp wasn't being correctly calculated.

I don't know if I ran into mean people, but in that first hour or so it was survival of the quickest. The spawn rate was bonkers and it just didn't matter.
True that. I ran around stabbing many mobs with the dagger to tag while casters wasted time casting. I felt bad, but....
I am intensely curious how y'like Classic as it progresses, Thawmus, as it's new to you. For any of the truly new, honestly.
I'm currently still where I was at after the stress test (extremely positive), but yeah, we'll see as time passes.
I'm playing a NE Hunter, but I've never done the NE zones before. Just finished all of the Teldrassil quests last night, so tonight it'll probably be a lot of fishing, cooking, mining (engineering), and questing in Darkshore.
Also that's maybe the last time I do Teldrassil, holy crap that's an awful zone.
Basically all of Kalimdor is pretty bad with the exception of, like, UnGoro and Winterspring.
Un'goro and Winterspring are also bad
Un'goro is fine. Certainly no worse than, like, Badlands or one of the other more forgettable EK zones.
And, yeah, Winterspring is kinda bad, but it's probably the second-best Kalimdor zone (behind Un'goro.)
comparing something to vanilla badlands is not doing it any favors IMO

Un'Goro was very bad but it is also the best option available in its tier.
The second you can leave and go to the plaguelands, just fuckin do it.

yeah, they let all the streamers and poopsockers abuse the shit out of this then patch it... they should cap the number of layers people can swap to in an hour as well.

I think I actually meant Blasted Lands. It's been a while.
I saw Swiftness Potion on AH for 3.5G for 5 and thought it was gonna make me rich. Now there's a bunch listed for 30-50S each, severely undercutting my attempts to get rich.
How was the first week and major weekend for the servers? I haven't played in like 10 years and it looks like fun. I've loved my time on the P99 EQ server.

Swiftness potions will pick up in sales when battlegrounds kick in.
Plus, its a relatively low level potion, you have a ton of alchemists selling their learning crafts on AH. Wait until they cant be bothered to gather swiftleaf.

Is there a PA Alliance guild anywhere?
Queues on the populated server. Servers are having a rough time the last two days in Redridge only, which is weird, but mostly holding up OK. There's an Alliance guild on Pagle with a bunch of people in it.

This just in: Still having a blast. Still learning things about the game I never knew before, and finding a better game underneath because of it. That is all.
I feel bad on one hand Atiesh is a really good server on the other it's full of asshats, people trying to highjack it and turn into their server's community {there is a serious beef between two guilds/groups from Proudmore} And a serious anti social vibe you get as people are willing to help? But past that they seem wary to socialize past the Hi and what to you need/have left.
I know it's been a week But I am very curious how this server will end up
I think that just means that raid xp wasn't being correctly calculated.
Yeah they introduced a fix somewhere around the stress-test to address groups being unable to enter low-level dungeons in 10-man groups. It is absolutely intentional that you can 10-man small dungeons.
Regarding it being abused by streamers etc, meh. I don't really understand why anybody would care. If anything I would rather that extreme min/maxing is contained to dungeon instances where it can't directly impact the majority of players. I'd rather that than having these people out in the world camping/farming regular mobs which impacts others' ability to complete their quests. And I have still found plenty of normal dungeon groups not insisting on spell cleave or 10-man SM farming, so as far as I'm concerned everybody wins.
Was doing the Crushridge ogres and had the Staff of Jordan drop. Whelp, equipped it. Now my Priest is geared for a very long time.
(Yes, I could've got 2-5 gold for it, but no one would pay hundreds while saving for their mount, and I will use it for a very long time so its worth it. )

Man if I remember right, you were a rogue in the original game and you got that insane guaranteed crit dagger super early? Talk about some luck.

Also when you think you have waited long enough for logins to be reasonable, and are met with a 2 hour queue :O
between 20 and 30 there's a time when i think fury is obscenely good, but it just comes down to what weapons you have.... weapons come at you so infrequently via questing that what you build could easily be dictated by what you're lucky enough to get
did my first and only no-life day. didn't make toooo many levels but did a ton of profession stuff also and got a lot of valuable flight paths for later on
this game has not stopped impressing me, and I can't wait to enter the second half of the levelling process, as there are so many great dungeons in the 30-50 range
Yay it was rough but I got my hunter to 10! and I named my pet Janet!

Got my shaman to 16 and I'm enjoy the game so far. It has been a pretty fun experience and the servers feel so lively, I really like that.
I have been feeling like I'm behind though, I haven't started playing my main warrior since my friend still doesn't have his pc. I also feel like I'm gonna struggle with growing this guild. So far I'm at 9 people and I've been randomly asking guildless players I invite.to groups for quests or players in dungeons I do.
Not really sure how to properly organize things, feel like I need a discord for the guild but I'm not sure it is worth it just yet for so few people.
Either way I'll keep leveling and trying to invite people who seem cool. Gotta wreck those raids.

We did have someone bail on our bfd run because we had to wait on a boat... I can't imagine the dps found a replacement group before we all got there.
