See now I'm imagining a version of the movie where the big realization Phil comes to in order to break out of the loop is that they're a girl.

My favourite Groundhog Day thing in recent years was Bill Murray loving the Broadway musical version so much that he cried and went backstage after to praise the cast & crew

and then showed up to watch it again the next day, from the exact same seat, wearing the exact same outfit

I 100% understand how someone would not like Bill Murray and if that's the case, I would suggest that person avoid a lot of his movies, especially the 80s and 90s stuff that's so deeply built around him.

I had read the first part but did not know about the second part, that's fucking incredible. I'm so mad I missed out the Broadway version, I really wanted to see it but theater is too expensive.

My favorite thing about Groundhog Day is that Harold Ramis drove Bill Murray insane during the production.

Yeah, I don't really like Bill either, and this movie especially has a lot of his bad qualities behind it (he and Harold Ramis stopped talking to each other after making it for decades if not the rest of Harold's life), but I loved the movie before I learned that Bill is kind of a shithead and I am not going to let who he is ruin it for me. Especially since the movie's message is basically "if you don't change, your life will become a living hell." It's like he was talking to Bill directly.

It's OK to dislike the artist and still enjoy the art.

It's not really who he is that bothers me (I don't really know anything about him), he's just a terrible actor.

Oh he's definitely a talented actor. He doesn't always demonstrate that, it's true, but I think this movie actually involves a fair bit of good work from him. In a sense it kind of has him transition from a "just be yourself, Bill" type of role to one of his more dramatic roles.

This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off, waiting to worship a rat. What a hype. Groundhog Day used to mean something in this town. They used to pull the hog out, and they used to EAT IT!

    You're hypocrites, all of you!
