The 2018 Winter Olympic Games live from PyeongChang South Korea! Spoiler results
I honestly don't care that the main NBC network acts as though it's still 1988 and jumps around, showing a bunch of stuff on delay. What's asinine is that they have a multitude of other channels in their portfolio that should simply be showing live events. I mean, does anyone really care if a political punditry show or two on MSNBC is put on temporary hiatus for a couple weeks? Or some insipid reality TV bullshit on Bravo? Or whatever USA shows that's not Mr. Robot?
Compounding this is NBC having a dedicated Olympic channel that doesn't currently show any events, live or otherwise.
The best Olympic coverage I've ever seen was the PPV Triplecast back in 1992. While it was a spectacular failure (only 200k subscribers (my family was one of them)), the actual coverage was amazing. Three channels - red, white, and blue. Live, uninterrupted coverage of just about everything, including preliminary/qualifying rounds. A complete lack of the annoying human drama vignettes that plague modern broadcasts. The drama happened live, in the events. It should be the model going forward, especially since tape delaying events makes no sense in the age of the internet.
"Whelp, That's all the racers who have a chance, congrats to the winner"
*20 minutes later*
"Let's go back to the Super G because someone else won."
admittedly, the way the schedule those events they weren't exactly wrong, lol. everyone else who goes after the top 30 really doesn't have a shot basically ever. this is that .01% chance.
this is the world cup finishing results of the woman who won the gold:

That was the age of the black box. Barcelona was the first Olympics I remember happening and my family like half the others in the neighborhood watched on pirated feeds.

NBC has loaded everything as far as live feeds onto their NBC Sports app, not their bundle's worth of owned channels. It's a weird tactic, but for those of us that have a Roku/FireTV, or even prefer to watch stuff on tablets or phones, it's a godsend.
Lizzy Yarnold got the track record (twice!) on her path to keep her gold-winning Olympic streak alive. Jaquelline Loelling silvered, grabbing Germany's first-ever medal in Skeleton, with Laura Deas rounding out the podium with Bronze.
2 GB women on the podium?? Hoooooly shit that's incredible. What an achievement for everyone involved. Not to mention Yarnold defending her Gold. Un-fucking-real.

it almost defies reality. it's one hellva story though, damn
Women’s Super G spoiler
Watching her after her run standing there refusing to believe she was in first was pretty amazing. You could tell she wasn’t able to process what was happening and was trying to figure out why it said “1” next to her name. Not how you would expect a potential gold medalist to act.
The camera man had to tell her she was in first and she still refused to believe it!

it is literally one of my favorite moments from the games, like she is a snowboarder, she didn't expect to win, she was just out there having fun running a race, puttin down the best she could, and bam gold medal at the Olympics
So wait there's a doping scandal involving a Russian.. curler?
I mean maybe he took stabilisers or anti-shaking stuff or something to help him focus?
Cos when I think of sports that you might benefit from drugs in curling does not immediately jump to mind
He was snagged for Meldonium which all I know about it is it was the drug of choice for a lot of Russian athletes. Not sure exactly what it does but I believe it was only added to most organizations banned substance list in the last few years. I believe it’s what caused Maria Sharapova to fail a drug test even though it was announced well in advance that it was going to be banned.
It is definitely a Russian wide drug and although I don’t know exactly what it is used for, the Russians were not happy with it going on banned lists everywhere.

This is basically CBC. I miss it so much now that I am in West Michigan instead of SE Michigan.
The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

Can we just call it and give Norway the rest of the medals?
26 total w/ 9 gold already...the rest of the world can barely keep pace as a unit.
If they continue to kick ass at the current pace, can I at least request a change in anthem from "A Song for Norway" to something from Grieg?

That costume was not at all well done though. I noticed a couple of times the straps at the back kept slipping down. You do not want a dance costume doing that. I think the neck piece was the only thing keeping her from being topless by the end.
*edit* Oohhh the back of the neckpiece broke apart! That’s what caused it to start to slip! It seems to have happened really early in the routine too.
That move just after they start where she falls back into a dip and he leans down and holds the back of her neck as he pulls her back up. At least given their score it didn’t seem to distract her too much, but that’s an awful shame for her, flashing an international audience because a seam wasn’t sewn securely.
USA won easily, 5-0. Even had two goals on power plays. Finland will finish the games better than they did in Sochi (they were fifth there), which is good, but they'll only top out with Bronze at best. USA goes to the Finals to face the winner of the CAN/OAR game, the loser facing Finland.
The other semi-final, CAN/OAR, is today at 7:10am EST.
I’m just watching the main NBC coverage. That landing zone for the aerials seemed a bit strewn with debris. Unless that’s intentional to help the competitors’ depth perception.

Yeah, they tend to place fir tree needles in the landing area so competitors have a reference point when they are jumping. They also til thanks but so it's softer on landing.

It’s supposed to help the jumpers differentiate between the sky and ground especially on those overcast days. Which is useful when you’re flipping upside down like 4 times in about 3 seconds
Canada and Germany tied for the Gold medal, with Latvia bringing up the rear in Bronze. They time in hundredths, so I'd imagine going forward they'll probably have to go to thousandths.
basically has two brackets. The US plays Canada in literally every IIHF world championship and Olympic finals with Canada winning 10 WC and 4 Olympics to the US 8 & 1, and everybody else plays for bronze

The Germans who crashed in a terrifying fashion coming over the line?

I think if I had to pick one sport's athletes to spend a night clubbing with
It would be male figure skaters. That deffo seems like it would be the best night.
She's just very good and always giving good information
All the CBC commentators have been great tbh. Loved the guy who did snowboard slopestyle and kept yelling "Seb Touts!" at one of the Canadian riders

You must not have seen the arms on the sweepers. Motherfuckers are bulking up these days to get the job done.
The whole Russian's mens team was doped up 6-ways from sunday. Probably the women too.
The olympics of course is just basically letting them all compete anyway.

Sure. Absolutely. That can totally be arranged. I bet Norway would be all for it, even.
Just as soon as the US take a break from vacuuming up every third medal at the Summer Olympics :P
I WOULD SO WATCH THIS

My girlfriend wont stop salivating over him.
Thats fine because Michaela got me back in the gym.
Poor French ice dancer lady.
That was a whole nipple out of that there costume at the end there.

Also they seem to be sending skiers down the half pipe.
Wait no this is just aerials

You weren't hallucinating, freestyle skiing halfpipe was introduced to the Olympics in 2014.
